Texting the Boyband #1

Celebrities Don't Date Bookworms

Rate this book
Can you fall in love with someone that you’ve never actually met?

When Hudson Shaw—lead singer of the world’s most popular boy band—spilled coffee on me in Starbucks, I didn’t expect him to actually remember me later.

But he did… Which was a problem since he started at my school three days later. And even though I’m the only person in school who isn’t a fan of him, he picked me to be his guide.

Why does the universe hate me?

He’s convinced I’m going to warm up to him—maybe even fall in love with him—but I’m sure that’s never going to happen.

After all, why would I care at all about Hudson when my sights are already set on someone else? Someone sweet, funny, and caring… who I’ve never actually Bay.

I met Bay when I was accidentally added to a group chat, but nothing between us has been accidental since. With every conversation we have, I feel like I’m falling for him a little more.

But can you really fall in love with someone that you’ve never met in real life?

And if I do meet in him in person… will I like who he really is?

Celebrities Don't Date Bookworms is a sweet, lightly paced, minimum drama young adult romance. The first thing you should know - and the author says it herself on the first pages - is that this is heavily inspired by the band One Direction. Which is fine by me, but could be annoying to some. You can actually easily recognize which band member in the book stands in for which One Direction member, because four of them share their initials.
The plot itself was fun and breezy: it follows two tracks. The first is an arrival of new students - a world-famous boy band - to a small town high-school, and the second is a group chat in which the main character, Megan, is added by accident into a group chat with five boys, who she doesn't know but ends up befriending through this group chat. Although the chat is by far the best part of the book, it was also the biggest plot hole of the book, because I couldn't understand why five boys who were already best friends for two years would go and make a BRAND NEW chat just because one of them changed his phone number. Wouldn't it be more sensible to add this person to the existing group chat? And I couldn't stop thinking about it for the rest of the book.
The story is very straightforward and sweet, two teenagers slowly catching feelings, with all the feels, zero drama and no third act breakup.
I recommend it to everyone who likes sweet and simple YA romances.

Honestly, the concept of this book is so Y/N “I’m not like the other girls” tumblr scenario, but it was a decent and quick read. She’s as dense as a pound cake about figuring out their identities, though.

It’s always cringe to see teenagers in these YA books to about falling in love with their love interest and this book was no different. (While, yes, high school sweethearts is a thing in real life, it’s just a little ??! in a YA book, imho.)

Was there good lessons and morals in this book? Ehh, no, not really, they’re teenagers and somewhat dumb ones at that. But there wasn’t anything super major negatively either. They do share a couple kisses and one leads into falling into a bed, but it doesn’t go further than that. It was super unrealistic at times but it was a complete Y/N One Direction fanfic spoof, so I wasn’t expecting greatness, haha. It had its cute and funny moments within the cheese.

Main Content:
About ten or so kisses, a couple being more detailed and last about five-six sentences and one going as far as laying on a bed together (but nothing happens past that nor is it implied to have anything more happen or would have happen); ‘Hot’ and ‘Hotties’ are used; Some fans of the boy band ship some of the members together and we see a few tweets about that (Megan finds it funny because she knows the truth about the guys liking certain girls); Coffee is spilled on Megan‘s shirt close to her chest and she’s uncomfortable when a guy tries to wipe it off (he has no I’ll intentions); Megan’s mom pesters her about boys (wanting her to take to her about cute boys) and making friends; Noticing, Attraction, Flirting, & Falling in Love; Mentions of flirting; A mention of a teen girl unbuttoning her shirt a lot to get a guy to notice her; A mention of another teen girl trying to act seductive.

Language like; Freaking, crap, heck, screw, sucked, omg, damn are used (all used up to three times); Eye rolling & Sarcasm.

Megan lies at times to others like her mom and best friend (because she doesn’t want to hurt their feelings or to have to explain something); Megan has a strained relationship with her mom due to a difference in personality; Megan’s best friend has strict parents and it’s brought up at times (mostly following their rules, but there is a mention of knowing how to get around the rules (such as her sneaking out) when she needs to).

No Christian faith content; Mentions of making a shrine for a boyfriend/girlfriend (teasing).

I finally got into reading the Texting the Boy Band series by Clara Neilsen and OMG it was so fun to read!

It’s an enemies to lovers, secret identity YA that takes place between the lead singer of the popular (and fictional) boy band called Take Five. All told by the POV of sassy asf bookworm Megan White. Take a boy band that was probably inspired by One Direction, add in a bunch of hilarious tweets, rom-com moments, accents, and an unhinged group chat, and you’ve got this book. Or maybe the series as a whole.

Like all of the author’s reads, it was a quick and light-hearted read! I love diving into deep topics as much as the next person, but I love books that make you feel like you’re in a rom-com. Megan and Hudson were so fun and I loved the whole “he fell first” sub-trope that all of her books have (at least, the ones I’ve read have it). And I love reading about bookworms. My only problem is that we didn’t get enough book references.

She has another book coming out on September 8, which is the love story of Megan’s best friend, popular cheerleader Sloane, and I can’t wait to read it! So excited for Billionaires Don’t Date Cheerleaders <3

This was odd. An ‘average all-American girl’ (she was Canadian😭) thrown into the group chat of five teenage boys. What could go wrong!? (Spoiler: everything.) but I would recommend for anyone who likes super quick books with a happy ending!

This would have been great if it came out in 2011 when I was 13 and a Directioner. Now the book was free during kindle day and DNF is a big deal for me but yeah … not that good

3.5⭐️

This book was a short and cute read. I loved the feel good vibes of the book, and I also appreciated the high school aspect. Sometimes it’s so nice to just read a cute romance book without worrying about any spice or anything beyond the feel good relationship vibe. Hudson is just so sweet, and I love the way he treats Megan. He’s so gentle, loving, and kind. I also love how the author made sure the band was down to earth, and not super stuck up. Celebrities are way in their own heads these days, and I admit I was hesitant to read further past the part about the band. It was a nice surprise that all the boys were kind and normal for the most part.

The grammar in this book was absolutely horrible. Because of that I felt that I was missing parts because words were written where they don’t belong, or it just didn’t make much sense. I’m not one for caring about grammatical error, but there was so much it made it confusing at times. I also hate insta love with all my heart, and the fact the characters said I love you with less than a week of knowing each other 😭 It’s just not realistic. Megan was also insufferable at times, and slightly selfish. I don’t appreciate selfish characters.

Overall it was a nice short read, and very cute.

The most famous boyband will be going to their school!!
Her best friend loves them. Her mother loves them. She’s like “meh”. She gets onto a group chat and HAS no idea how!!! But she feels like they are becoming friends . . . and the more she gets to know them the more she likes them . . . not even knowing who they are!!! This is a superb book - LOL so often!! It was pretty good, very cheesy. Ended so abruptly though. I wish there was more to the story as well as the characters to be flushed out a little more. They fell in love SO quickly and I wish they had more time build and get to know eachother, but also been there done that so I guess it’s whatever lol

***spoilers little here and there***

This book was interesting. I enjoyed it. I like how it wasn’t to long where I could easily get tired of reading it.

I also figured that Bay would’ve or already figured out that Eggo was Megan. Because in my mind I kept saying. I know they can figure out each other by their voices. & come to find out Hudson knew it was Megan all along! At least he didn’t hate her for keeping the secret.

Plus it showed Megan how nice the guys from Take Five was. & she ended up liking the band in the end!!!!

Celebrities don't date bookworms - Clara Nielsen

Where do I even start?? This book was actually so amazing!! I know, I say that about every book… but y'all… THIS WAS THE FEET KICKING UNDER THE BLANKET, GIGGLING AND SCREAMING INTO MY PILLOW! THIS WAS THE PANCAKE OF A BOOK. WARM. FLUFFY. SWEET. JUST THE RIGHT SIZE. IT. WAS. EVERYTHING. *takes deep breaths to calm down* 🤩🤩🤩

Now, fun fact about me is I *LOVE* boybands! So the boyband really made me excited to read this book! Clara did not disappoint here!! I was always smiling and saying; "That's so boyband-ish… I love this!" I have a feeling this series will be one of my all time favorites!!
I really did love the relationship between the MC's, it was so sweet and cute. And the friendship in this book just made my heart warm. It was so well written and the texting!! I loved the texting!!
If you have not read this book, you are 1000% missing out. Go read it! Now! ★★★★★ for this one. It was everything I hoped for and more! 🫶🫶✨️✨️🩷🩷

What a fun clean & sweet YA incognito celebrity romance, loved it!

I loved Megan’s & Hudson’s story, really sweet in that grumpy sunshine kind of way with the girl being the grump - for a change. Reminded me of She’s All That but without the bet. For normalcy, the boyband Take Five takes up residence and enrolls at school in a small Canadian town. A local girl accidentally gets added to their group chat and a few innocent meet-cutes later two teens are getting to know each other and falling in love. I really liked the use of texts and chat the way it was done in the book and loved the “Tell me a secret” prompt, so sweet. Megan wasn’t too much of a bookworm in the book, though, more introverted but opinionated rather than know-it-all and bookish. Will definitely look out for Luca’s and Sloane’s story next.

Recommended for lovers of celebrity pop band boy falls for unpopular girl books and movies and clean and sweet YA high school romances.

Okay, so this is definitely a fanfiction turned book based on one direction. That much is clear, but Oh my god, I am obsessedddddddd with it!

It's such a sweet book, and it was such an easy and happy read. I loved it, and I will be moving onto the second book right away :)

Quotes:

📕When I read, it was like the world disappeared from around me, and nothing other than the story existed.

📕A boy once asked me to go to the school dance with him, and I was so awkward that I just stood there and stared at him silently until he left, assuming I wasn’t interested. I was never able to live that one down.

📕“Screw not seeming eager,” he said. “I am eager. All I want is to see you.”

📕“Sit there and think about me for the whole day,” I said sweetly. “You could even build me a shrine. It would be very romantic.”

📕“I love you too, average all-American girl.” He kissed me, soft and sweet. “And I can’t wait to write a thousand songs about you.”

This was another cute book written by Clara but at first I was a little confused because it felt like I had read a story very similar. It wasn’t until toward the middle of the book when I realized that it was Megan’s story that was causing me a lot of déjà vu. It was nice to see another side of the chatting on Twitter between everybody.

I wasn’t quite sure what I thought about Sloane in the beginning because she came across very conceited and unfriendly. I still am not sure what I think about her, but it didn’t stop me from enjoying the book. I am curious to see if the next story will be about Grace and Neil. She is the one who deserves to date a band member since she is the biggest fan. 😊

I was given an advanced copy of this book for free, and I’m leaving my review voluntarily.

Cute, swift read.

Ah, teenage love. This is definitely aimed at the younger end of YA. It takes me back to a (much) younger day when we would all fantasise about meeting band members (actually, that hasn't changed everyone's just older!)
The main character is predictably clueless in a cutesy way about the mix up she's found herself in. I really liked the texting, social media vibe the author used, it was good for the flow of the story. The banter was great!
It only took an afternoon to read but it kept me entertained and made me laugh. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of them.

Ugh this book was so bad. I don’t even know the point of it. So many typos and grammatical errors, it was distracting. The title mentions celebrities not dating bookworms but there was ONE moment in the entire book that the main character was even reading a book???? She never picks up a book again so how is she a bookworm? Also, Megan bugs me. I didn’t understand why she was so rude to Hudson in the first place not knowing him and over spilled coffee? So weird for them to fall in love like they did for not having spent much time together… the whole thing was downhill.

Cute and Quirky

Adorable HS age Rom-Com, and my only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because it was a little fast-paced for me personally. Not quite insta-love, but the FMC seemed a little too naive for a junior in a high school with a supposed academic excellence, as well as a self-proclaimed bookworm (although there was really only one mention of her being one). Will likely read again as a palate cleanser between other genres.

Awesome

This a new to me author and I love her writing! I haven’t read teen romance in several years and this was a good one to kickoff reading that genre again. Her characters are fun and she paces the story well. I’m glad the popular best friend stayed a good friend. I’ve read many where the popular friend ghosts the invisible one and I’m not a big fan of that. Sloane bucks that trend and stays a good friend. I’m looking forward to reading the next book.

This was a short sweet story, easy to read with minimal drama. I enjoyed watched the moments between Hudson and Megan, the only critique I have is the title of the book. Megan kept repeating how she was “average” and showed no character traits of being a bookworm. At no time was she reading or caught up in the book world, it doesn’t affect the story but I would’ve just called Megan average instead of bookworm.

I really wanted to like this book more. I loved the concept of having the group chat in the book and the fact that the book was based off of fanfic tropes. However, there were some grammatical errors and some times when I was like “that would definitely not happen in real life”(they said I love you when only really know each other for like a week….). All in all, this was definitely not the worst book I’ve ever read but, not the best either 💖

My daughter told me that sometimes she doesn't want to just read classics; sometimes she wants to read Hallmark Christmas movie type books. This is essentially a clean One Direction fanfic, with Hallmark movie level depth of characters. If the premise strains credulity, at least there's no toxic body image stuff or profanity, I guess.

Definitely worth reading especially since it’s on Kindle Unlimited and doesn’t cost a penny.

I especially liked that there was no alternating POV. The novel was focused on Megan from start to finish.

The authoress definitely has potential but could use a proofreader because there was a few typos and mistakes.
