Dr. Fallon Avery is at the worst bachelorette party of her life. Matching shirts. Crummy bars. And the blister from hell, thanks to her new cowgirl boots.
So when she limps into the deserted men’s room in search of respite, the last thing she needs is drummer Tommy Cunningham barging into her stall and giving her a) a bloody nose and then b) the shirt, quite literally, off his back.
That doesn't explain why Fallon chooses to grab life by the shirtless stranger and have the hottest kiss of her life. Or why she agrees to a ‘Say Yes Night’ that ends in matching tattoos and…more.
But when Fallon uproots her life for Tommy, he breaks her only rule — no drugs — and before they know it, the ugliest parts of their pasts are threatening to break promises and hearts alike.
Maybe this wasn’t meant to last longer than one night in Nashville…
from the first page i knew this was going to be a winner. redemptive romance is so hard to write and deliver well but nikki wrote with so much fervor and heart for this story to be heard, you can tangibly feel the intention on each page. one night in nashville feels like magic and i’m so blown away by the fact that it’s debut! so expectant for what’s to come 👏🏻
now onto the romance: TOMMY TOMMY TOMMY every word this man says is magic! passionate, driven, supportive, personality for days, i love him so much as an mmc! from the first chapter that opened with his pov, i knew he was going to be a love interest i’d think abt very often after reading this book (and shoutout to nikki for rewriting this story from 3rd to 1st person in a MONTH?!? intentional, i’m telling you 😭)
i have to commend nikki also for tackling some pretty serious themes for her first book which i’m sure was very daunting. in today’s society, it’s easy to turn a desensitized blind eye to those struggling or even feel angry at their inability to improve but so many deserve some level of human empathy to plant seeds of strength for taking on the road to recovery. this book spoke with so compassion for the ones on a journey to win their battles with addiction and definitely opened my eyes to how much more grace i am able to give.
thank you so much to the author for a gifted copy of her book in exchange for my honest thoughts ✨
4 stars! One Night in Nashville is Nikki’s debut novel and I luckily was able to get my hands on an ARC copy.
This novel had so many layers - addiction and recovery, loss and family trauma, second chance romance, and the power of love and friendship through it all. I loved the added setting in Nashville as I lived there for 5 years and it made me feel extra connected to the story and its characters. Tommy and Fallon had an unconventional love story and as their friendship and love went through its roller coaster I found myself absolutely invested in it and wanting to jump into the book and fight off anyone or anything trying to keep them apart 😂 the fact that I was so protective of their relationship and wanting to know them so deeply shows how intentionally Nikki developed them and their circle of friends. I wish I could get a whole separate book of the first three months of their relationship!!
The only reason I’m giving 4 stars is because chapters jumped between characters and periods of time I sometimes felt a little lost in where we were and how much time had passed since the previous chapter I just read and the one I was currently reading. I was usually able to pause and reacquaint myself with where we were but more timestamps would’ve been super helpful for me (and definitely may just be a personal preference!).
I am floored by how talented Nikki is as a writer and cannot believe this is her FIRST NOVEL. The way that she brings her characters to life and the way that she is able to take really tough subjects/huge emotions and articulate them so visually, accurately, and beautifully is truly a gift and I found myself highlighting paragraph after paragraph in this book. It also made this book so easy to devour; I read it from my cell phone and found myself picking up my phone to keep reading in any idle time I had. I am so excited to see her continue to grow in her writing throughout this series and beyond! Thank you again Nikki for giving me the chance to be part of your ARC circle - I am so PROUD of you!!!
It’s been a long time since I picked up a book that genuinely pulled me in, leaving me with nothing else I’d rather do than sit and fly through the story, the characters, the witty dialogue, the references and details any lover of books and music like me would notice… and I found that and more with One Night in Nashville.
Nikki just gets it, and still finds a way to keep you on your toes, surprised and wanting more. I was kicking my feet and giggling but also felt deep in the trenches of the human experience with these characters. To say I’m excited for her next book is the understatement!
i am in awe that this is nikki's first novel. truly speechless. her writing is beyond captivating & poetic, i was immediately drawn in from the very beginning.
this is so much more than a one-night-stand romance. this is a story of friendship, addiction, heartache, grief, and love that is deep/beautiful/raw/all-consuming. nikki has a special way of writing these characters with REAL human emotions and i can't help but feel so deeply for them. above all the shit tommy & fallon went through, there was nothing but true love and friendship between them through every step of the way. tommy and fallon and their story will always have a special place in my heart. also i've fallen so in love with this friend group, i truly cannot wait to see what's next!
nik, im in love with your brain & your words!!!
what you'll find: - one night stand - second chance romance - he's a drummer, she's a doctor - music references & songs as chapter titles 😍 - found family!! - nashville setting - family drama - he drives a bronco!!!!! (my dream car) - dual pov - tw: drug use, death, assault attempt
thank you so much nikki for the arc. what a gift to be able to read this early 🫶
reread oct ‘24 — still feel all the feels if not even more now than last time 🥹 love tommy and fallon with my WHOLE DAMN HEART.
I’M NOT SURE WHERE TO START WITH THIS ONE 😭
♾️/5 ⭐️
first of all, this is nikki’s debut novel and honestly it seems like she’s been writing books her whole dang life! the writing was so incredibly beautiful, you’re able to connect so well with each character it’s incredible!
Fallon and Tommy’s story is just so beautiful! They start out as just a one night stand in Nashville, but immediately know they are going to be so important to each other during their lives. This story takes place over years and talks a lot about addiction, beautiful friendships, heartaches, death, but thru it all, all the love they have for each other. I was hooked from the beginning when you get a peak into their relationship right away and then rewind years back when they first met. The second chance romance isn’t always one of my top favorite, but nikki wrote this one so beautiful It’s forever going to hold a huge piece in my heart.
Thank you so much Nikki for letting me read this!! It was so beautiful & I cannot wait to see what you write next!!
Such an outstanding debut novel from Nikki! I tend to not prefer second chance romance all that much, however I wasn’t too bothered by it in this book because Fallon and Tommy’s story was so raw and authentic with many layers to it. I loved seeing Fallon & Tommy’s love story unfold over the course of three years, it is such a well rounded and exceptionally written book. Nikki’s writing style is so beautiful & poetic, I found myself highlighting almost half the book lol.
** This novel does touch on a variety of heavy topics such as addiction, grief, death, mental health so definitely check out those trigger warnings beforehand!
nikki lang, you really did create a masterpiece!!! i genuinely can’t comprehend how this is a debut novel; the writing was exceptionally well & it reminded me a lot of TJR’s storytelling, but with more of a romance focus.
the story of tommy & fallon captured me from page one, i loved their dynamic so much. even though second-chancw romance is not my favourite trope, i must say that nikki wrote it so well that is found myself not being bothered by it. we follow the story of tommy & fallon throughout the years, starting as a one night stand during a night out in Nashville, where tommy, a drummer, is playing a gig with his band! 🥁 i loved reading their dynamic & relationship throughout the years!
there are many important (& sensitive) topics discussed in the book, such as addiction, grief, heartaches, so please check the trigger warnings before you pick it up!
I knew that this book would be emotional, but I didn't expect it to hurt me the way it did. While this is a love story, One Night in Nashville shows the flawed and ugly part of love - the hurt, healing, and all the in betweens. It's about falling in love with the right person at the wrong time, and learning to love them all over again. It's about discovering that love isn't always what you see in the movies - sometimes it's someone playing your favorite songs on a car ride or being for you as you grieve the loss of a loved one.
If you're looking for a happy love story, this isn't one (though it does have a HEA!) But it's a real love story about falling in love, falling out of love, finding forgiveness, life, death, rebirth, and fate. It might make you cry, but it'll also make you smile too. Overall, I really enjoyed this book!
honestly GREAT debut novel! the writing was absolutely beautiful & a perfect book for the emotional readers. there was SO many amazing quotes and the story/drama really sucks you in! I couldn't put it down! I didn't personally connect to the characters like i wanted to but overall the book was really good & I'm def looking forward to book 2!
Thank you so much to Nikki for sending me the arc of her debut book! This truly was such a fun, but complex romance.
I think this book and these characters made me realize how much I love second chances romances. Fallon and Tommy met one night in Nashville years ago and started a whirlwind romance. The two fall deeply in love and as Tommy heads off on his next tour (he is a rockstar drummer) their relationship hits a crossroads. Tommy is someone who struggles immensely with addiction and a lack of control over his relationships and past. Fallon has struggles of her own and desperately wants a stable meaningful relationship, but refuses to put her needs last to support someone who refuses to care for himself.
Despite the heavy topics in this book, Nikki managed to write very poetic and a truly beautiful love story between these characters. This book was full of action, especially as we follow Fallon and Tommy as they reunite 3 years after their breakup, and slowly work their way to friends, and eventually lovers. I loved the raw and at times painful ways both of them called each other out on their shit, forcing each other to open up and dig deep to do the work to heal. It was a pleasure to read this book and so wild to me that this is Nikki's first book, and she managed to write such complex, real characters with a wonderful romance.
What a great debut novel! As an ARC reader, I was lucky enough to get my hands on an early copy. I'm marveling at Nikki's ability to tell such a beautiful and complete story. As a bonus - the setting in Nashville was so fun for me as a Middle Tennessee resident myself. I understand Nikki rewrote the entire book from third to first person. Knowing this, I think there were some references (that may not have made it into the final version) to the story being told by Dean. They left me confused - but it could have just been due to an early printed version.
Nikki has a great story she's telling. Its a romance filled with lessons on friendship, love, addiction, recovery, neglect, and ultimately, forgiveness. She handles a complex societal issue (drug addiction and recovery) with grace and understanding. Despite the more serious topics, Nikki manages to tell the story completely loaded with personality and witty references.
The novel left me wanting to know more about the characters - I'd love a prequel of the "first chance" in the "second chance" romance! Is the next novel in the "One Night In....." series the love story of one of the friends...? I can't wait to find out!
This second chance romance, addiction, and opposites attract troupe had me dealing with so many mixed emotions! The push & pull between the characters was exhausting but that’s what made it feel so authentic and real.
I received a physical copy of this book from Nikki in exchange for an honest review and my honest review is that Nikki has a gift. A true gift. And that gift is in the form of writing, she writes so poetic, so beautiful, so raw and so real. Tommy and Fallon’s story captivated me from the very first page all the way to the last page. I throughout the book multiple times found myself in awe that this is a debut. Nikki writes in a way that doesn’t feel like it’s a story that is cliché or that you’ve heard before. One Night in Nashville is so incredibly unique and I am so glad I took the chance to read it. She writes stories that deserve to be heard. ONIN is one of those stories. Within this story you will find a piece of yourself in at least one of the characters. I think unfortunately in some way, shape or form we as people have been affected by addiction, whether it be a close friend, a family member, a friend of a friend, someone - we have all been impacted by it. Nikki has written about this topic with such care and compassion. The thought and detail that went into this story is truly beautiful. It is a story of friendship, addiction, heartache, death and grief, love and how even though things seem like they’re closing in on you through it all you have at least one person in your corner whether you realize it or not and that is Tommy and Fallon. Through everything that was designed to break them apart whether they realized it or not they had each other. The way that music tied these two together is something that I will think about often, as you're reading Nikki has a song tied to each chapter and I kid you not its so perfectly executed for what's happening within the chapter. Reading this book felt like comfort, it's like listening to your favorite music on a cloudy day, curled up with your significant other, reminiscing on the things you've been through and how you're so glad you're still there with them today.
One Night in Nashville is one of those books that will leave you thinking about it for days on end. Wishing you could read it for the first time. I am so incredibly excited to see what's next for Nikki, she's already made a fan out of me. She is officially one of those authors I've dubbed, "if she writes it I'll read it".
I rarely rate books infinity stars so this is gonna be a long one!!
This book is about Tommy (a drummer) & Fallon (a doctor) who have a one night stand in Nashville that turns into something more. The story spans over years of struggles, mistakes, yearning, friendship and so much love. This is the second chance romance I’ll be recommending everyone!! There are mentions of drug use, death and trauma so be sure to read the content warnings if those are sensitive topics for you 🫶🏼
Writing a review for this book is so special to me and I feel honored because I witnessed this story evolve into what it is today - it’s honestly hard for me to put into words. Nikki is not only an AMAZING writer (you won’t believe this is her FIRST BOOK!!!), but such a beautiful soul and that will reflect off her writing. The way she articulates her words is extremely poetic and you’ll find yourself wanting to annotate EVERYTHING. The characters she created have real, human experiences and emotions that I developed almost a protectiveness over them. Reading this book felt like coming home because I found so much comfort in Tommy & Fallon’s love as well as their funny, supportive circle of friends.
You’ll also find yourself seeing certain topics in a whole new perspective and feel better for it. To say how proud I am of Nikki is an understatement. It’s clear that she poured her heart out into her very first novel and I’m so excited for you all to read One Night in Nashville!!
ONIN will be available on KU + paperback on May 17th 🤍
I don’t think there are enough words for me to write explaining this book, but before I do, thank you Nikki for allowing me to get a first read on your debut novel and for sharing this beautiful book with the world ♥️
This book gives the true meaning to “the feels”. The feeling of sadness, love, hope, anxious, joy, freedom, happiness and more. Nikki’s writing is poetic and made you really feel all these feelings reading the story of Tommy and Fallon. This has to be the realist story I have read with how much I felt for these characters. I cried so many tears.
Tommy and Fallon’s love story isn’t your typical story, it comes with so much pain, growth, learning and SO much love. The kind of love you not only wish for in a partner but a love you look for within yourself. These two come from different backgrounds but equally in pain. This story was about addiction, death, finding self love and that shot at a second chance.
From the moment I opened this book I was hooked, no literally I read the first page and was like “wait what? Oh I need to know why!!” My favorite part of this book was “the set list”: each chapter was a song and really made you feel the story through music, just like Tommy and Fallon’s love.
Tommy and Fallon will forever be with me, this book was perfection🥹
**Trigger Warning: this book talks heavy on addiction, death, assault, mental health.
This story wasn’t something that I expected! And after finishing this book, I didn’t think that this is Nikki’s debut because it’s so well written! 👏🏼 I gotta say though, insta love is never my thing. I need the slow burn, pining, the angst, but when you continue reading, everything makes sense! This book not only includes Tommy and Fallon’s love story but also has so many layers to it. Family trauma, death, grief, friendship, drug use, years of yearning and all the mistakes that happened. So get ready to get in this roller coaster! 😄
Who knew a one night stand can change your whole life? 😌 And I never knew I needed a drummer boy x doctor love story! 🥰 If you are looking for a second chance romance, this book is for you!
Thank you Nikki for letting me be part of your ARC team! Can’t wait to read what you write next!
I loved everything about this book. I was captivated from page one and got through this book so quickly. I couldn’t put it down because I NEEDED to know what happens between Tommy and Fallon. I really related with Fallon (as someone who has watched love ones struggle with addiction and her shift in mindset as her got more educated and empathetic with it) and Tommy (as someone who feels invisible to their family / the lack of support from his family / having to accept that your found family is just as important as the family your born too) and I think this story is important and special.
I think Nikki’s approach and style were so impactful, I couldn’t help but to reflect on my own experiences, biases, and views when it comes to addiction. The part around asking the right questions around addiction will always stick with me! I hope after reading this book others have a more empathetic approach to addiction as well - because she is right people are not born addicts, they are made. Everyone including addicts deserve love, support, and community.
As someone who works at an addictions treatment center, this book warmed my heart. Nikki, thank you for bringing matters of addiction to light. This is a difficult topic to write about and I felt that although romance was a big plot line, the overall message of the book was beautiful. I don’t want to give any spoilers, and I was lucky enough to be an ARC reader, so I will leave my review as that. Please read this when it comes out.
I refuse to believe this was a debut novel. It made me feel all the feels. I related to Fallon on a personal level. Even though my story doesn’t deal with my mother, it deals with my cousin as he has fallen victim to the addiction life and lost against as he ODed 5 years ago. This book helped me realize that sometimes not everyone can be saved even if you want them too. Nikki approached this hard topic in such a gentle and respectable way that it honestly felt like real life. Infintiy stars.
I am so blown away that this is Nikki's debut novel! Her writing is exceptional and pulls you in from the very beginning. Fallon and Tommy stole my heart and I loved how Nikki showed the good, bad, and ugly parts of their relationship. It made the story even more raw and real. Nikki handled the tough topics in this book with such care and grace. She paints an incredible picture of the human experience. The characters were incredibly well-written and complex, I was so impressed by their character growth. Overall, this was a beautiful second chance romance and I'm honored Nikki gifted me copy of her very first novel!
Trigger warnings: addiction, mental health, grief, and death.
If this is Nikki’s debut, I can’t wait to see what else she creates! This book was so good. The character growth of Johnny and Fallon was absolutely superb. This story shows the reality of addiction. I loved how music was incorporated into their way of communicating with each other. 10/10 recommend!
Wow, wow, wow!! Fallon and Tommy’s story was absolutely beautiful. Nikki, this story was so perfectly written!! A job well done as a debut novel!!! I can’t wait to read the rest of this series 🩵🩵🩵
such an well rounded story that was hard to put down! every page left you feeling the emotion of each character as you followed their journey over years and various life experiences. i am so impressed in the way nikki is able to create a visual experience with her writing. i felt as if i was in the places that were being described experiencing the moments that tommy and fallon were. there were profound moments backed by very relatable words which always kept me turning the page. as a music lover, i was so appreciative of the way music was weaved into the story. it was such a nice touch that really brought it all together. i cannot wait for nikki’s second book!
“Instead of running away, I take a step toward the ocean, accepting my fate. Fallon is that wave, and I’m the man walking toward his demise”
4.5 stars!! I loved this book!
One Night in Nashville is Nikki Lang’s debut novel and the first in the series “One Night Only”.
Tommy and Fallon’s story had depth and mentioned hard topics like addiction and I found myself highlighting throughout. Nikki’s writing is breathtaking and I never felt bored reading this one, she pulled me in right away with these characters.
Found family, second chance romance- this emotional romance will be one I continually reccomend. ✨
5 stars!!🌟 I was honored to be an ARC reader for Nikki Lang’s debut novel & it was truly my favorite book of the year so far!!! I’ve recommended it to all my friends & family. When I saw it was based in Nashville, I was so excited because I grew up going there & was just there in December for a birthday trip. So I related to all the places they went & could really imagine the scenes. But even if I’d never been there, Nikki’s writing brings you into the scene. I love Tommy & Fallon’s unique relationship and fell in love with their love story. We all dream of a night like their first together, they had me invested from their first encounter. Nikki’s character development is amazing, so many layers to each person. I loved reading this story and seeing fate align. I’m so excited for her next book!!
premise: while out in Nashville for a colleagues bachelorette party, Doctor Fallon Avery runs into Tommy, the hot, tattooed drummer in the most tension filled meet-cute. what was expected to be just a one night stand turns into 3 months… then before she knows it, Fallon is packing up her life and moving to Nashville to be with him. but as fate intervenes and sends Tommy on the road shortly after, Fallon asks him to promise her two things… No lying. No drugs.
ONIN spans over 3 years of heartbreak, addiction, broken trust, finding family in friendship, second chances, forgiveness and above all else the power of love.
this is the romance book I will recommend to anyone and everyone for years to come! I don’t think I have ever read such beautiful writing…like I basically highlighted this entire book. and from a debut author!! Nikki’s writing is poetic and powerful in a way I was absolutely not prepared for. each of her characters felt so real to me that even though this book was heavy in some areas, it also felt like a huge hug.
please mark your calendars, this bad boy will be available on KU & paperback on May 17th! ⏰
thank you so much for the advanced copy, Nikki! can’t wait for One Night in Sedona
