Elias Feinzilberg is a young man living in Lodz, Poland, when he is separated from his family as the Nazis invade his country at the start of World War II. At this moment, his life expectancy is at best a few months. Against all odds, surviving the torment, deprivation, and degradation of nine concentration camps, he encounters Esther. Their meeting reinforces a promise he made to his father, to survive. This is a story about the human spirit, love, and triumph. It is particularly relevant in today’s environment of rising antisemitism and Holocaust denial.
MY NAME IS B-1259—I SURVIVED NINE NAZI CONCENTRATION CAMPS

Verified Purchase I highly recommend this book. This true story of Elias Feinzilberg, as so brilliantly written by its author Michael Brown, not only describes many of the atrocities that people of Jewish faith were forced to witness and live through under the reign of Nazism during the 1940s, but it also the actual story of one man’s courage, strength, and conviction to triumphantly survive nine concentration camps. Elias Feinzilberg’s need to survive, although understandably tested at times, was driven by a promise made to his father and his hope that his family’s legacy would continue in a world that he hoped would prove to be far better than the one he had experienced.
“My Name Is B-1259” is a historical, aspirational, and human-interest story that needs to be read. This book not only opened my eyes to what occurred in Germany, during the 1940’s, but it also helped me to see the parallels to what is occurring in various parts of the world today. I am extremely grateful for the collaboration of Elias Feinzilberg and Michael Brown for sharing this story. This book has changed how I view the past, as well as how I will view the world differently going forward today. I am certain that it will have the same positive impact on many others who read it. Highly, highly recommended! R. Day, New Jersey.
I had the honor of meeting Elias in person and hearing his story 11 years ago. What an incredible person! I'm happy to have found this book and learn more about his experiences.
I was absorbed into this story…I felt as though I saw through his eyes, felt his panic, his fear and his push through the darkest days of his life. My heart broke with his as his world turned upside down and inside out, but he never gave up, despite the odds. This story drags you through the days of the holocaust…you are there and you can’t let go of the struggles of everyone you meet. This story takes you on a journey through the holocaust like no other.
