This American Association of Museums pamphlet aims to integrate education and public service as the central purpose of musicological institutions. The authors are concerned with providing quality educative experiences to a diverse audience within a a democratic society. The pamphlet argues that public service needs to be broadened within the mission and operations of museums. According to the authors, it is the mission of museums to engage human interaction with objects and ideas in a rigorous, yet accessible manner. Emphasis throughout is on inclusion and diversity.
