You’d have to pay me billions to work with a man like him…
In my career as a gemologist, I’ve learned to spot the difference between a precious gem and a fake a mile away.
I can also identify a self-important professor when I see one.
The brilliant Dr. Ian Clark has everything going for him—irresistible good looks, billions of dollars, and head professor tenure at Columbia.
But that doesn’t stop me from criticizing his research publicly.
Only now the FBI wants me to team up with him because they need our expertise to help crack a series of international jewel heists.
Dr. Clark makes it obvious his dislike is mutual, but with my reputation at New York’s Museum of Natural History on the line, I can’t say no. Especially as a single mother with twin girls to support.
But then I start receiving anonymous threats about a mysterious rose diamond with links to my deceased mother’s past.
With our lives in danger, I’d be foolish to trust Dr. Clark. But try telling that to my heart…
Mr. Clark is a standalone book in the New York City Billionaires series with swoon-worthy romance, a gripping plot and guaranteed HEA ending!
Nina and Ian had NO chemistry lol, their relationship was totally unbelievable and the book was pretty boring. Not to mention there was basically NO actual romance either! It was sort of saved by the jewel heist subplot, that’s where the 2 stars come into play, that was interesting. Nina was a great character that deserved a much better man. She was smart and driven and a great mom! Ian was a cocky, boring misogynist.
Well then, that was certainly an enjoyable read. I really liked Nina, everything about her appealed to me. She’s a successful, incredibly smart young single mom, she’s just out here living her best life. What I also liked about this book was all the things I learned about gems, it’s very clear that a lot of care and research went into this and it’s very much appreciated,
Really didn’t like Ian when we were first introduced to him. He was giving very much petty, ignorant misogynist vibes. I can’t say that really *changed* throughout the book, more that it was just forgotten. The romance element of this book felt surprisingly small and overlooked compared to the main plot. I didn’t mind this too much but it would have been nice to have seen a better balance, I wanted these characters to get to know each other on a deeper, more believable level rather than them just suddenly seeming to like one another.
Even still, I had a fun time with this one, may even explore others in the series.
Chapter 1 already has me groaning. Mr. Clark is a pompous misogynist ass (at age 34 already) and Ms . Levin is a hidden gem (pun intended) and of course she was a previous ballerina. Already unbelievable and predictable caricatures (side note, how does an academician become a billionaire?). Nina was more interesting and deserved better treatment. The story is told mostly through narration, which is boring. Chapter 3: Dr. Clark thinks "statistically speaking, women with her beauty rarely proved to have anything of value beneath the skin." I am so NOT INTERESTED in reading this drivel enough to get to him learning how wrong he was; how she changes his mind, etc. This is my 2nd, and last, book by this author. This will be a race to a DNF.
Beautiful emotional love story of loss, forgiveness, happiness, and love.Meeting a challenge face on and learning more about your family history can change priorities and values towards a new and better future. Thank you for sharing another wonderful story ♥️♥️♥️
Ian is a professor working in a field of precious metals and Nina interests lies in precious gems, though she never wears any. Their paths had crossed years before academically but not in person, both now dislike each other, both assuming too much as well when they find they are to work together assisting the FBI.
When two scientists come together to help the FBI, to find a stolen diamond Dr. Ian Clark and Nina Levin are matched together. One is specialized in gemstones and one in Mineralogy. I love these mysteries and good romances that come together in the end. Love the storyline and makes you want to keep reading.
I couldn't get enough of the brooding Dr. Clark and the dynamic between him and The smart Nina Levin who published an article in college on Dr. Clarks previous work. Man the This book was really interesting and perfectly detailed in all the teachings on different things and their processes!
This book has all the ingredients that makes a good book for me. It is a good book. There is danger, sadness, family, good/bad guys and a really warm hearted love story.
I just couldn't get into it like I normally would. I guess I'm in a different subject reading area.
Don’t miss this wonderful love story. This is a fast read and very much deserving of your time. It’s beautifully written and flows easily. You will be in love with the characters by the end of the book. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Has potential to be a good story, but there are too many awkward gaps and inconsistencies. Investing in a good editor and using beta readers be helpful. The audio version is horrific, I understand good narrators and production cost a lot of money, but finding a narrator just coming into the business and have them record this in their bedroom would be better than virtual voice.
I enjoyed this story it was hard to put down. It started off with to scientists contracted by the FBI to help catch a jewel thief. This story was full of suspense, intrigue, murder, kidnapping, and love. Good read I recommend it.
What a great storyline… but it was predictable, too much personal dialogue and pretty anti-climactic. The direction of the storyline was so obviously hinted on from the first pages onwards that I found it quite insulting as a reader.
OMG. How disappointing. These People acted like children. The twin girls were more mature than they were. I felt I was reading a book solely about gems. So boring. I read to the end as I need closure, but what a difficult read.
Really enjoyed the storyline. It was straightforward and I liked the jewelry aspect of it. I haven’t read many books set in this type of environment. It was a sweet book with mystery that I did not expect.
