It is very tempting to give this book another star, because while it has literary failings and not enough vitriolic spit, it is a great insight into the quality of life for citizens of a country decimated by vicious western sanctions ( translate, being starved into submission) and war both from rivaling factions bur also by an inhumane US Surge.

Westerners have been taught to equate every Arab as a democracy hating, murdering jihadist, so it should come as a surprise to read stories of survival and daily life as well as those of a generation raised up while under the boot of US imperialism.

Actually a fascinating read and an insight into cultures we have been trained to fear by the very people who are kicking the shit put of the Iraq populace. I felt what Escobar hoped i would feel. 3.5 stars for that glimpse into the mad max hell of survivors of some incredibly tough times.
