Inescapable Darkness

Rate this book
Six years ago, I saved the life of a mafia prince.

Biggest mistake I ever made.

Because now, the people who wanted him dead have realized that he is in fact still alive, and since I am the one to blame for that, my head is now on the chopping block too. In order to evade them, I decide to hide in the one place they would never expect me to be. A school for assassins.

Pretending to be a mediocre student, I hide my true skills and change my appearance so that no one will notice me. But there is one massive problem that I did not see coming. The mafia prince I saved is there too. And he recognizes me.
Keeping my identity hidden becomes increasingly difficult when he is doing everything in his power to force me to admit who I really am. If I don’t reveal my identity to him, he might actually kill me. But if I do, our hunters will kill us both.

So I only have one withstand his dangerous attention and hope that he loses interest.

But the problem with a lethally powerful man like him is that once he sets eyes on his prey, he doesn’t stop until he gets what he wants.

I won't lie this one took me a while to get into, but when I was in, I was in.

“This girl is making me fucking crazy. I want to strangle her. But at the same time, I feel like her entire soul is calling to mine. As if there is a part of me that only she sees. Only she understands. And I fucking know that she feels it too.”

The beginning felt a bit bland, was a bit repetitive at times and just honestly didn't catch my interest.
But Rico and Isabella have a soulmate, written in the stars type connection, so by the middle they had truly won me over.

Isabella was raised in a cult to be an assassin. Six years ago she was part of a mission to eliminate a powerful mafia family, only she couldn't go through with killing her mark.
Rico, the son of this powerful mafia family, was sent into hiding under a different name, with a different family when he was the only survivor of an assassination attempt on his family.
Six years later, these two run into each other Blackwater University.

As their story progresses you see, even if they were raised as enemies, how much they resonate with one another. They have an instant connection none of them can explain, but it's tangible.
Seeing them falling for each other, experiencing life but still hiding from the world was truly so heart warming. For a dark mafia romance, this one was actually incredibly sweet and might've even had me shed a few tears at times.🥹

“I thought having sex with Rico, just because I wanted to and not because it was required of me, made me feel alive. And it does. But this, right here, just sitting here and eating waffles with him, might be the most real I have ever felt.”

I think part of what held me back in the first half was the main characters. Especially the fmc. She's in playing up a character of being meak, weak and average at everything she does - even though she's probably the most apt assassin at their campus. Whilst I understand her reasoning, it got tiring very fast. But seeing her coming out of her shell was so incredibly satisfying and made it all worth it. Just be patient and let her cook.😌
They are both so powerful, strong, intelligent and so incredibly well-suited. SCRUMPTIOUS I'M TELLING YOU.

“If I were to marry Isabella, she wouldn’t live her life in fear of our enemies. No. Our enemies would live in fear of her.”

I'm so damn excited to read the rest of these books now. They are just so damn bingeable.🤭

As respectfully as I can say, it was pretty mediocre 😭 Maybe I was just too eager to dive into book 3, but this one? It was just okay. It wasn't dark, and I couldn't even begin to sympathize with the characters. the stories are about romance, and the traumas are given zero respect.

⌞ Isabella & Rico Hunter ⌝
22-22

“That she is a part of the group that murdered my parents.”

Enrico Morelli/Hunter, is nice as he was before, but this book didn't do him much justice. his parents were killed when he was 16, and he was spared by okay ffs I'm in the middle of writing this review & I forgot the name.💀

so, Isabella spared his life, and now she's running from her cult to save her life, when she just BUMPED into Rico. *ofc* so, he recognized her but she's an oscar-worthy actress, & desperately making him believe that she's not *the one*.

THINGS YOU CAN DO TO GET ANSWERS:
a) Torture her? (nah pookie wouldn't dare).
b) Humiliate her? (already did! she doesnt give a fuck).
c) Bully her? (been there, done that).
d) Seduce her and fake date? (now that's what we're talking about 😗).

“I know that you don’t have a last name of your own,” he says, looking up at me. “So I would like to give you mine. If you’ll have it.”

so they had two or three chill scenes, a waffle scene (not gonna lie, it was absolutely cute), and some random moments. The smut wasn't that good because I skipped most of it, and I wasn't swooning.

⌞ book: enduring darkness, crumbs⌝

The good thing is, I got Kaden crumbs, and ughhh he's such a psycho 🥲 In a hot way ofc. Alina and his first scene together was just so…HOT (he had a knife at her throat). Nvm, it was the highlight of the book, and I ate that scene up hehe 😗

“You have a little sister? You’ve been holding out on me.”

“Kaden isn’t paying our silent communication any attention. His eyes are solely on the Petrov girl.”

“One more step, and I’ll slit her throat,” Kaden announces, his voice dripping with cold threats.”

I’ll release her,” he agrees. “In exchange for my brother. And a name.”
“What?” Mikhail says.
Kaden, who is still forcing the girl to crane her neck with his blade, looks down and meets her gaze. “What’s your name, little doe?"

pizap-8 ❀ 𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐂𝐀𝐏𝐀𝐁𝐋𝐄 𝐃𝐀𝐑𝐊𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐒 ❀ Is the second full length romance book within the (kings of Blackwater) series by new to me author Raven Wood. Spoken in dual POV's. 'Rico & Isabella'

After really enjoying the first book and grabbing this off Amazon I'm jumping in
F#ck life
F#ck adulting
I'm reading!!

Holy crap I swear I held my breath through a few scenes in this book, the author came out swinging and I’m another victim that’s fallen, this book grabbed me by the throat too many times to count and like an adrenaline junky my angsty gritty little heart lapped up the words this author wrote.

It's definitely got a completely different vibe to the previous book, and I wish the author had really delved a bit more into the life she lived within the cult, because that shit was cray cray.

This one was that wee bit more grittier
Emotional, a girl with no name
And a boy hiding in plain sight.

I’m so glad I initially took that first plunge and took a chance on this series!

This book had me in chockhold! It was fantastic and I was blown away.
Isabella is an assassin and she has to go threw some real though shit, if you can‘t stand violence against woman this is definitely NOT your book. She was so strong and I just suffered with her. Her loyalty towards Rico is mindblowing.
Rico is a badass too and knows what he wants. He seeks revenge for his family and does everything that helps him to find it. He provokes Isabella constantly and tries to get an answer out of her - but my girl Isabella stayed strong.
I would have loved to read more of a flashback from the night that ties them together and get more information about Isabella’s past but still this book was excellent.
The plot was amazing and I was glued to my kindle the whole evening. I loved the worldbuilding, the characters and the story overall. It was dark, very dark, but well done.
Go and just read it (if you can stand a lot of violence).

This is my Roman Empire.
I think of this every. single. day.

I won't be recheable on the 27th of dec.

EDIT: Finished reading the book, loved it. I'll purchase and read anything Raven Wood will ever publish.
I did have the highest expectation for this one and had to remind myself throughout the book that Rico and Isabella aren't Eli and Raina and that helped a little, because those two were the BOMB!!!

But when Isabella revealed why she didn't kill him I wa a puddle on the floor and I forgave Rico for the 50 times she let Isabella walk away or he walked away.

When I finish this book I don't feel like writing a review about it because it's an average book. Although I kind of like the female character Isabella. Girls who can fight their own battles without any man's intrusion are kind of amazing ( whether it's a battle with your head or a fuckin hand to hang combat) she defeated the main male character countless times. She's strong, smart, brave intelligent, and everything in between.

While our Male character Rico is average man just like the book itself.

But I'm still gonna read the third book in the series because I kinda like the character of Kaden.

This book was very good and had a completely different vibe from book 1. It came off as more like romantic suspense than a bully book to me.

Both Rico and Isabella have had to hide from the world who they really are because of events that happened between them 6 years ago.

Rico ended up finding the perfect partner for his life in Isabella and it was very good that they got their hea. My only complaint is that I would have liked to see the showdown with Isabella and the master of the cult go down. It was disappointing it happened off page when it was such a big part of the book.

"Inescapable Darkness" by Raven Wood kept me on the edge of my seat! Rico and Isabella's chemistry is off the charts, and I couldn't get enough of their dynamic.

Isabella, the FMC, is one tough cookie. She's got a mysterious past (check ✔️), and she's undercover at a freaking assassin school (check, check ✔️✔️).

Then there's Rico, the mafia prince, who's as mysterious as he is handsome. They sparred verbally and, of course, physically, their words laced with both suspicion and a simmering heat. Their stolen glances were quick and electric, a silent conversation that only they understood (but neither let on).

Compared to the first book, this one felt more in depth, delving into the characters' motivations and the emotional toll of their secret lives. The romance is definitely more developed in this book, which I loved ♥️. Watching Isabella and Rico navigate their feelings, with secrets threatening to spill at any moment, was like watching a slow-burn movie come to life. It was suspenseful, heartwarming, and kept me wondering until the very end.

The only thing I wanted to see more of was Isabella's life before the academy. The details regarding her past in the cult were intriguing, but I felt they might have been expanded upon a bit more. A few more details regarding her escape or her adventures would have been the ideal finishing touch.

Overall, "Inescapable Darkness" is an excellent read for anyone who like dark academia and superb enemies-to-lovers stories. If you liked the first book. This one is written completely differently. But trust me, the character development and slow-burn romance are fantastic!

3 stars ⭐️ a series where the fmcs are more interesting than the mmcs!

Inescapable Darkness was surprisingly different from the first (which was a nice treat since so many of these dark college series are the same). That said, this was an average read compared to Eli and Raina’s.

Rico and Isabella are star crossed lovers. Isabella is a trained assassin in hiding and Rico is a down low mafia prince. Their relationship was sweet, and Rico had some swoon-worthy moments but the book was missing suspense and excitement. I’d say this was pretty mild in comparison to the first on the bullying, spice and storyline. I got pretty bored at the 50% mark, but it picked back up towards the end.

I hope Kaden stays true to his psycho self because I really want to love the next book.

This is the mafia prince I was supposed to have assassinated six years ago.

👏👏👏👏 amazing! I enjoyed this so much just as much as book one. The FMC is bad ass in this one, too, which i absolutely love.

When Isabella enrolled into Blackwater to hide from her previous life, she never expected to run into someone from her past. Someone she was supposed to have assassinated. How will she keep her identity a secret when Rico is just as ruthless as she is.

I recommend reading in order to get insight into the characters as the books continue. Starting with Alluring Darkness.

So it's a 🌯 on Inescapable Darkness by Raven Wood!

Ratings: ⭐⭐⭐

Enrico and Isabelle are sort of star crossed lovers. Isabelle is supposed to assassinate Rico but instead saves his life. Isabelle is on the run because she is going to be tortured since she did not finish the job.

Six years later Enrico and Isabelle are at the same college for assassins. Enrico recognizes Isabelle's eye color. He starts a mission to get the truth out of Isabelle for his and his parents assassination. This marks the stat of his obsession and love story!

Review 4.5 stars! 🖤

Inescapable Darkness follows Rico, one of the Hunter brothers who is secretely a mafia prince in hiding after the slaughter of his parents 6 years ago. That was until he stumbled upon one of the assass!ns that was there that terrible night… and had spared his life. And he is inescapably drawn to her.

This one was a little less dark than Alluring Darkness (which set the bar as my top dark romance book 🤣) but it was just as addictive. Rico bullies her, humiliates her, breaks in her apartment, ambushes her at the shower, ties her to a tree… he’s a walking red flag. 🚩However he still has such sweet moments (the waffle scene had me 🥹) and becomes entirely obsessed with Isabella. We also get glimpses of Kaden and I’m WAY too excited for his book 😈

This book was soo good!! Both Rico and Isabella are amazing characters with intriguing background stories and the plot was really entertaining. I could not put this book down and the romance was great.

Inescapable Darkness was definietly different compared to Alluring Darkness. It was not as spicy/kinky as Alluring Darkness and Inespecable Darkness wasn't as much of a bully romance compared to Alluring Darkness but I still really really liked it.

I can't wait for Kaden's book. I've already pre-ordered it and I'm so excited to read it since I'm already obsessed with Kaden.

SPOILER ALERT‼️‼️‼️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️

Imagine someone being so in love with you that they would make a deal and get tortured for 100 days extra so you can live🥺

I had high hopes for this because I LOVED Alluring Darkness so much. And it's good. But it's not great. Book 1 was 5 stars for me.

Alas... I enjoyed the idea of both characters and even the story and plot but it all just felt simple I guess.

This book was missing edginess.

Rico did some things that had me swooning a la waffles and books. But he was too soft to be a mafia king IMO.

Isabella won me over with her tough girl withstanding torture in 2nd half of the book. But the plain Jane in the 1st half was way too boring.

Now Kaden... I think im going to eat his book up as long as he stays true to his psycho self.

And the OTT tropes continue...

The story continues with Rico and Isabella. Their story was a lot different from Eli and Raina's. Isabella is a trained assassin hiding in plain sight at the blackwater university from a cult of assassins she escaped six years ago. Why is he hiding? Because she was supposed to unalive Rico Hunter, and she didn't.
Rico hasn't forgotten the girl who spared his life and has been obsessively looking for her. Imagine his surprise when he finds her at the one place he didn't think her would find her. Thus begins a game of cat and mouse. Isabella trying to hide and deny her true identity, and Rico using every trick in the bag to reveal herself.

I loved Rico and Isabella's chemistry. Although it wasn't as explosive and chaotic as Eli and Raina's, but it had its moments. They were sweet at times, hot and spicy at others. Both of them were playing each other trying to hide their true selves, but eventually when the dam broke, wowza a lot of fireworks.
But like I mentioned in my review of Alluring Darkness, the scenario's and situations in the book are definitely over the top, but the author manages to keep your attention invested in the story.

Raven kills it every single time! This one was so different compared to her previous too but I ate it up!! Isabella and Rico were unstoppable, I loved their chemistry & their soulmate style bond. It almost felt a little Romeo and Juliet forbidden love ish with this enemies to lovers thing going on. Having two characters lie to each other the entire book was something I have not read and this read like something out of a spy thriller!! The spice was great, Raven does such a good mix of spice not too much not little just the appropriate amount for the story. I loved their ending so much for whatever’s next for Raven.

The first 30% of this book was so dragging to me and they really made use of silly plot points but right after ? Omf it kicked off so good and I really started to enjoy it. This book could’ve easily been a five star if the first thirty percent was much better but I loved the ending and the way the couple fought for each other ??? Yummm.

This man also bought her every topping ever for waffles because she’s never had before which idk abt you but that’d get me going…

THIS BOOK!

okay I admit, the writing is the BEST but I fell in love with Isabella and I fell in love with Rico. Isabella was a girl who’d been through so much and Rico who also experienced horrors. I loved their journey, their dynamic and even the depth of their feelings for each other.

On to my new fave psycho, Kaden.🥰🥰

“i let you live because i saw in your eyes what i have always felt too. that i don’t want to die without even having lived.”

this gave me everything i wanted from book one, but better. the fmc was even more badass, more unhinged, but above all, more murderous. this was almost like a second chance romance, which i love, and thankfully there wasn’t much bullying in the story. the mmc was a simp, not only was he a simp practically from the start, not wanting to torture nor divulging her secret identity, but he had been simping for her for six years, ever since she spared his life. but it gets better, on top of being an unapologetic simp, this man knows she’s better than him, that he will never be able to beat her. that’s my favorite part about this whole book. she calls him little mafia prince and he calls her little menace, if those nicknames don’t speak to their entire dynamic and power balance i don’t know what will. they’re the definition of soulmates, star crossed “enemies” to lovers.

Fab, hot story

I loved this fab, hot story! Six year ago she was tasked with murdering his family but somehow changed her mind as she stood over him. Now they attend the same school and he instantly remembers who she is. He is determined to find out why she saved his life, but she won't give in quite so easily.
Hot read.

i think i like isabella’s backstory and character? but i would say the first few chapters were a kind of tough read i wasn’t so into the way they first met and rico at first. he kind of grew on me?? (less than eli) but his chemistry with isabella was a little bland icl. though the parts where he lets her find out her favourite!!! okay maybe my heart melted a little. overall solid 3/5⭐️
