Isabel reaches Karth, tormented by the influence of the Wraith Queen, and quickly becomes embroiled in the conflict between the House of Karth and the Reishi Army Regency. Before she can form any meaningful alliance with the Karth family, she must first challenge a dark and sinister power that has kept the Isle of Karth in thrall for millennia.

The harsh snows of winter have arrived, stalling open warfare in Fellenden, but Zuhl presses the attack, relying on the power of his dragons to carry the day and dealing a blow to Alexander that is as devastating as it is personal.

Abandoned by the love of his life, Alexander wakes among the dragons of Tyr. Bedridden by a grievous injury, he struggles with the limitations of his magic in a desperate effort to help the two people he loves most survive the winter, while also preparing his allies for the coming spring. What he discovers about the true nature of his calling might change everything.

Since my childhood, I've been passionate about fantasy. After reading many stories of epic struggle set in worlds of magic, I've decided to create a world of my own. The Seven Isles is the result.

really liked this book, less Alex, and more other people doing self to help save the day. Really liked that Isabel and Abigail have their own strong story lines. Liked the ending, and am really bummed that I have to wait for the next one. I was really hoping that the end of this book would be the end of Phane, and Alex could focus on Zuhl. not so much. Not sure why Phane can still call his wizards den when his magic isn't supposed to work.

The 5th book in the series, Cursed Bones, is the next adventure. The title is a little misleading as the bulk of the story deals with Abigail and Isabel, although Isabel does use the power of the cursed bone to break through Phane's majic and nearly kill him. Alexander discovers new powers and is laid up due to being stabbed by a blade infused with dark majic. All in all, a good continuation to an ongoing journey. I'm still reading the series...a good thing.

An interesting read with lots of Abigal and Isabel stealing the show from the rest of the characters. Isabel, in particular, has a strong showing in this book with her struggle to control Azugorath from taking over her will. The ending confused me . I am a fan of Alexander's new power and the flashes through the different parties as he used it. I thought it was a good touch for him on the sidelines, giving Abigal a chance to come to the forefront in the complex battle being waged. Zuhl also proved to be a very interesting person and his mindset and vision adds clarity to the story as a whole while showing his thought process while showing he lacks understanding of those of a different mindset.

Overall, a good read. Hopefully, the beginning of the next book shows where the end of this book went wrong since it seemed to not fit the story at all, though it had the makings of a potentially epic scene. I feel like the cliffhanger instead has me questioning Wells and not the plot.

This is a series, why can't I just write a review of the series? Or can I?
So here my review of the series, so far as I followed, put here at book #5, because that's the way, that made me finally give up.

I found the first half of the first book really boring, actually wanted to give up after the first third, but kept on reading out of boredom. The second half got a lot better, and was full of promise. So I got the second book, which wasn't really fulfilling the promises, but wasn't so bad. Then the third... and the fourth... Always not really bad, but not getting there either.
The storytelling is not really on a high level. The protagonist is acting often in a stupid way, just to open another part to talk about. Too many side quests ;-). Also, there are too many new monsters showing up all the time. Each different and new, half dragon here, half monkey there, it's just too much, like a recipe with too many spices. And the author repeats things all the time. One guy always stands around with his hands clasped behind back. Always. People who were sick, are then always "up and about". And many more such things. I gave up in the middle of book #5, which is really just awful.

I'm still not happy with the abrupt beginnings and endings (always in the middle of things), but am starting to believe he'll pull all the various storyline together.

With Alexander recuperating from a grave wound for most of this book, Abigail and Isabel are the main focus. Beyond that, it's just a lot of action, action, action.

A big hallmark of an epic is insurmountable odds and a mishmash of unlikely partners fighting to defeat the ultimate bad guy. Starting to feel like they'll make it.

Wavered between 3 and 4 here so will call it a solid 3-1/2.

It just doesn't get better

You will like the side kicks and new friends made in this installment.
Here's what you won't like - A!ex bonding with a dragon that's essentially a 16 year old girl. That plot is wrong on so many levels. So many fights, so many dead, too many losses. Did we really need two villains, plus the others in this book that just slow the conclusion down. If it weren't for Anatoly and the secondary support characters- I'd say stop now. Hoping the last book will be worth it, the next book is more of the same.

This book series has a lot of absolutely great moments. I definitely think the author could have cut some things and merged a few of the books but then it wouldn't have been 7 books for 7 isles. So it might be preferable to listen to this series on audible instead of reading it or you will end up skimming through some chapters. Which may ruin some of the big moments because you will loose the build up. All in all it is a great series worthy of your time.

A good book but a bit redundant

This 5th book is a good book with a lot of action but it feels like the same story is being told as the first four books with little progress towards the end result.. The killing of Ixabraks whole family was a disappointment. Plus the healing time of some of the main characters seems to be filler rather than moving the story forward. Am hoping the sixth book will be a little more fast paced.

David Wells?

I’ve loved these adventures! A darn good read that doesn’t rely on sex & swearing, who would have thought it?) Great characters, (a LOT of characters, mind, I was in bed sick when I read these adventures, so I had the time to spare to immerse myself fully in them. I shall be looking for more of David’s work. Give it a go, you’ll love it for the, witches, wizards, fairies & dragons alone!

I groused in reviewing“Blood of the Earth” that I was wearying of reading, “he was in a fight with a blade in his hand.” I must have been channeling David Wells himself, as in this volume he sidelined Alexander from battle, but not from involvement.

Nice development of female characters’ storylines, especially Isabel and Abigail. Now, let’s sprint to the finish in these last two books.

Awesome

The tale continues with all the adventure and excitement of the first four books. I can not put it down. The characters keep getting more real and taking on a life of their own . I really enjoy this book and series and I highly recommend it.

Losses and gains

Found a new love and lost both. Won some battles lost some advantages. Put hope in all in encounters. Find new magic losing his eye sight. But life keeps going will it be evil or good

The story continues. as great as the previous ones!

The complexity of who continues. The difficulty of the Lead characters and their way of determining how to solve them is remarkable. The author is amazing in the way he continues developing the story.

Book 5

Book 5 was better than book 4. The plot has a lot going on and encludes characters old and new.

hmm, this one was fast paced again, so I read most of it during the night and finished in afternoon :)
but I like the story and how Alex is expanding his skills, and his relationship with dragons.

Kind of a transition piece plot wise and a little slower paced than the others, still invested and can’t wait to start the next.
