Kit Morgan, aka Geralyn Beauchamp, has been writing for fun all of her life. When writing as Geralyn Beauchamp, her books are epic, adventurous, romantic fantasy at its best. When writing as Kit Morgan they are whimsical, fun, inspirational sweet and clean stories that depict a strong sense of family and community. 'His Prairie Princess' is the first of the Prairie Brides books and the first in the series of a long line of stories about Clear Creek, Oregon. One of the wackiest little towns in the old west! Get to know the townsfolk in Clear Creek and come sit a spell!

NOTE: Hi folks, it has come to my attention there is an erotica book floating around out there written under the name Kit Morgan. IT IS NOT MY BOOK! I do not, and never will, write in that genre.

I was eagerly anticipating reading the entire collection. Alas, while the cover says there are twelve stories, the Celebrate Lit reviewers only received four. So, while I can't provide any insight for the other eight stories, here are my thoughts and notes for the provided four.

***
The Privateer's Prize by MaryLu Tyndall
3.5 Stars
This is an action-packed tale about a second chance at love during the War for Independence. I truly did enjoy this story, so I'll explain my rating in a moment. Tyndall expertly wove a tale that keeps you on the edge of you seat. Plenty of danger, uncertainty, and past hurts stand between our hero and heroine, and it was so satisfying to see them come back together.

Now to explain my rating. As I stated, I did thoroughly enjoy this tale with two exceptions: there was an euphemism for the Lord's name in vain and a blatant taking of the Lord's name in vain. With all respect to Tyndall, who otherwise created quite a good story, this is never acceptable. Thus the reason I cannot give this five stars.

CONTENT WARNING:
One of each:
egad - a euphanism for the Lord's name in vain
An instance of, "My Lord".

***

Leftover Mail-Order Bride by Regina Scott
4 Stars

This is a sweet story that will make you smile and finish the tale with a warm, fuzzy feeling. I appreciated the pro-family theme and will be looking into more by this author.

***

Clara's Compassion by Marlene Bierworth

A story about an arranged marriage of sorts. Bierworth did well making the reader feel like they were in the setting, and I appreciated the faith and pro-life theme.

***

Courting Miss Darling by Chautona Havig

Taking place in the Wild West, readers are privy to an unexpected, yet growing relationship via letter between a ranch owner and school mistress. Missy was absolutely adorable.

***

I must admit I feel cheated, as we weren't told we would only be reviewing a sample. Scott's and Tyndall's stories were my favorites of the offered stories, so I'm giving this four stars for them.

*I received a sample copy containing the four reviewed stories from the publisher in conjunction with CelebrateLit for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

These are some authors I really love, and at least two are favorite authors! This is a worthwhile set!

"As I explained yesterday," replied the earl patiently, "my dear mother is hosting the ball ostensibly in my honor but with the sole intention of forcing me to choose a wife. I will not play 'Prince Charming' to a 'Cinderella.' "

For now, I've just read one story and wanted to give a rating based on that one. The blurb:

Miss Spencer attends a Cinderella Ball unwillingly, not knowing the 'prince' is in disguise."

"Miss Spencer Meets Her Match" by Linore Rose Burkard is wonderfully Georgette Heyer-esque. After a few pages, I realized it had a distinct Heyer feel, without the more challenging language. I loved this story. Both the hero and the heroine are worthy of admiration, and both are masquerading... even though it isn't a masquerade ball! I also loved that it was indeed a Cinderella ball without it feeling like a contrived storyline. More comical than contrived. He doesn't want to marry an aristocratic female. She does not want to marry an aristocratic male. Fun!

So it's not a fairytale - it's a story of two realistic people - within the Regency world, which to the modern day person feels a bit fairytale-ish. We don't have titles and rank that we're born into here in America. The closest you can get is a billionaire story, but if you like historical fiction, a billionaire story would not give you the same feeling. Though, speaking of billionaire Cinderella stories, this same author, Ms. Burkard, does have one - and a very good one too.

The author did give me an ARC for reviewing purposes, but I had actually already pre-ordered the collection. I would've loved to have been quicker at reviewing, but it seems that no matter how much I like a story, my sleep-deprived self just doesn't last long reading at night. Slow and steady... I still enjoy my reading.

"The only man the ladies care about this evening is the earl, is it not so?"

"Not to me," murmured Millie, searching about for the tall Mr. Sandstone."

Even though I should probably be reading something else - for reasons - I couldn't resist going ahead and starting Ms. Tyndall's offering for this collection - a story about a young lady and a privateer. (Tyndall is another favorite author.)

Merry Christmas to all! I hope you enjoy this special season.

Once Upon a Courtship is a delightful collection of inspirational historical romances from twelve amazing authors. I was able to read four of the stories: The Privateer’s Prize by MaryLu Tyndall, Leftover Mail-Order Bride by Regina Scott, Clara’s Compassion by Marlene Bierworth, & Courting Miss Darling by Chautona Havig. Each novella was thoroughly enjoyable & a fun, quick read easily devoured in a day. I loved all the varying tropes.

The Privateer’s Prize is an exciting second chance romance set during the Revolutionary War. Captain Isaac Preston, the man who left her at the alter must protect Thea & transport her safely to Baltimore before the British officer determined to get the secret message she’s hiding finds her.

Leftover Mail-Order Bride is a delightful love at first sight romance set in the late 1800’s Pacific Northwest. Victoria traveled to the area to become a mail-order bride but was left at the alter. Determined to marry for love, she’s resistant to Jack’s courtship who seems to only want someone to help on his family’s ranch. Though Jack fell hard when he first saw her, he has trouble convincing her he wants more than just a hard worker. I was excited to find that this story is the next in the Frontier Brides series.

Clara’s Compassion is by a new to me author. I enjoyed this story of a wealthy young woman who agrees to be a mail-order bride in order to fulfill her dream of living in the Rocky Mountains and becoming a teacher. She gets more than she bargains for when she clashes with the town and her handsome groom over problems with railroad workers, and educating the children of immigrant workers.

Courting Miss Darling is a sweet, matchmaking pen pal romance. Miss Muriel Darling is a 28 year old teacher disappointed in love. When she receives an unexpected letter from a stranger recommended by a former student, she decides to pass the cold winter answering his letters. Pete Donaldson is a wealthy rancher living in the Dakotas wanting a wife. Through their delightful letters, they find an enjoyable friendship & later love.

Looking forward to reading the other stories in the collection! I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own & voluntarily provided.

Clara’s Compassion by Marlene Bierworth
ADVENTURE IN COURTSHIP, LOVE AND COMPASSION

An absolutely remarkable story with two strong and admirable characters. Clara Stewart has a dream to go to the western part of Canada as a teacher. She craves the adventure, and for her father to agree, he makes a few stipulations, one is for her to be a mail-order bride to Graham Lee, who is the overseer of the construction of what will become a transcontinental railway.

Clara is also caught by a condition of her late paternal grandmother’s will, she must marry before her twentieth birthday or forfeit the inheritance. Agreeing to her father’s terms, Clara and Graham begin a courtship with letters and he will even describe things she will see on her journey to him. Clara will be the new school teacher and is excited about this new journey in her life. The one thing that is distressing to her is the division of citizens, those who are white, and discriminate against those of Asian descent.

I really liked Clara and Graham together—rather than conform to the mold, they break it, or at least Clara does and Graham supports her. Going to the camp outside of the outskirts of town to teach the women and children to help them acquiesce to their new country, not just how to read and write English, but also how to count money to avoid being swindled.

The story has the good, the bad, and the ugly in people. Clara helps others accept the Chinese who are working on the railroad and their families who live in the camp. Not everyone approves, and even remarks are made to Graham to get his women in line—but rather than do that, he supports her. He works with the Chinese and has a good relationship with them. The story has secrets, lies, deceit, and evil deeds. A life-and-death crisis is one way that Clara can bring the citizens of Cranston and the immigrants from the camps together. In the end, Graham and Clara find their happily ever after ending—that leads to more goodness. I especially loved the message that we are all created in the image of God and He doesn’t see us as various races, but as His children.

Once Upon a Courtship is a compilation of stories by several authors. I read The Privateer's Prize by Ms. Tyndall. It is a second chance romance during the Revolutionary War Era. This one is about a bride jilted at the altar. There is a lot of action with spies, betrayals, and espionage. Who can she really trust? Surely not the man who ruined her reputation when he left her at the altar.
I really enjoyed this novella. The satisfying action on the high seas, romance, and happy ending was what I have come to love about this author's books.
*I was given a copy of this book by the author, and this is my honest opinion.

I read one of the stories from this box set, Clara’s Compassion by Marlene Bierworth. If this story is like this others in this series, it is a must read. I’m looking forward to reading all the stories. Loved all the characters, and it was easy to read. I did receive this story from the author, but this is my own opinions.

Once Upon a Courtship is an anthology of twelve different novellas by different authors. All are Christian-themed, sweet, and clean. They range from the Colonial to the Gilded Era. I read a sampling of four authors’ works: MaryLu Tyndale, Regina Scott, Marlene Bierworth, and Chautona Havig.

MaryLu Tyndale’s story, The Privateer’s Prize, was just as enjoyable as her other pirate stories I’ve read. Jilted at the altar by Isaac, Thea encounters him as a hostile privateer as she attempts a journey North as a spy during the Revolutionary War. Attempting to force Isaac to band to her wishes, Thea’s actions cause damage that is hard for Isaac to forgive, even as he attempts to keep her safe. As the two struggle to stay ahead of their pursuers, they begin to see themselves as they had been years earlier, with flaws that would have torn them apart. Even now, God is refining each of them.
Isaac regrets the way he treated Thea in the past,
“He had not only broken her heart, but he had pushed her away from God, a far worse condition than being jilted.”
Even as Isaac realizes a deeper, truer love for Thea( and she for him) he still holds one possession firmly in his fisted hands.
“Isaac had turned back to God, had committed his life to Him, but he had never fully given Him everything. He had never put Him first. How could he justify such selfishness when Jesus had given His all, His very life, for Isaac?
***********

“Humility. One more item to add to the list of characteristics Mrs. Dalrymple expected Victoria’s husband to possess, along with patience, faithfulness, fiscal responsibility, kindness to animals, and frequent tithing. He would have to be an absolute paragon among men. She’d never find a groom to match.”

In Leftover Mail-Order Bride by Regina Scott, Victoria Milford has traveled west in 1870s Washington Territory to be the answer to a mail-order bride ad. Upon finding the gentleman already married when she arrives, Victoria must find work or a husband. Her hostess, Mrs. Dalrymple, fancies herself a matchmaker. Will Victoria follow Mrs. Dalrymple’s advice or her own heart? What happens when the gentleman who most appeals, Jack Willets, only wants a wife who will be an assett to the ranch?

***********

In Clara’s Compassion by Marlene Bierworth, a young woman travels West to the Canadian frontier, the Rockies, and the end of the current railroad. By marrying the railroad master there, Clara can still teach like she wants and receive her inheritance that may soon be lost. But will her compassion for all people, no matter their origins, blend with that of her husband-to-be, whose railroad exploits these same people?
When confronted about her activities that offend the self-righteous townspeople, Clara avers,
“Compassion for the needy holds no boundaries where God is concerned.” What will it take to make these two hearts like-minded and the townspeople willing to accept both Clara and her husband-to-be?

Notable Quotables:

“Does being accepted by the majority make ignoring the minority acceptable?”

“You are like my conscience taking bodily form.”

*************

In Courting Miss Darling, Chautona Havig does it again! She at once amuses me, admonishes me, teaches me, and entertains me. Muriel answers a letter of introduction and begins corresponding with a Dakota Territory rancher. We follow the correspondence of these two lonely people as they slowly reveal who they are on paper. I really admired Muriel for her strength, wisdom, and love she shows teaching the Casper, Wyoming children. Pete also has many good qualities, one being an ability to remember a “conversation” and ask more questions about someone in connection to that. That was one quality that endeared him to Muriel, and it was a real-life quality that endeared my hubby to me as we corresponded for awhile during our long-distance dating.

I enjoyed reading Pete’s mom’s admonition about self-confidence:
“you are a son of the King of Kings. That means you are to be humble, for you are not the King Himself, and confident because your Father is the King and will protect you against all manner of things.”

Ms.Havig leads her characters on a very twisted path to matrimony. But, oh, the lessons they and you, the reader will learn as you journey together!

I received a copy of the book from Celebrate Lit. I also bought my own copy. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.

Once Upon a Courtship includes stories by Kit Morgan, Chautona Havig, Tricia Goyer, Marylu Tyndall, Regina Scott, Marlene Bierworth, Linore Rose Burkard, Camille Elliot, Louise M. Goudge, Lisa M. Prysock, Teresa Slack, Marilyn Turk. This collection involves a variety of settings, plots, and storylines that will keep you reading.

I received four of the twelve books in the collection for this review. While I enjoyed all the books, some stood out more. The Privateer’s Prize by Christy Award Finalist Author MaryLu Tyndall includes a woman relying on a man who left her at the altar.

The next book is Leftover Mail-Order Bride by Publisher’s Weekly Bestselling Author Regina Scott. It chronicles a jilted mail-order bride who finds Jack, who is seeking help on a ranch, where love is possible. This sweet story kept me reading.

The third story, Clara’s Compassion, by Critically Acclaimed Author Marlene Bierworth, involved Clara, a mail-order bride who came west to the Canadian Rockies to marry Graham, a railroad boss. Her compassion for the immigrant workers adds a sweet element to this story.

Finally, the story I was most anxious to read was Courting Miss Darling by USA Today Bestselling Author Chautona Havig. This story is primarily told through a series of letters between Miss Darling and the man who is courting her. I loved how Chautona Havig developed this sweet tale's characters and the storyline.

I have to say that, as someone who enjoys historical Romance, I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this collection.

So, if you are looking for a great collection to read, check out Once Upon a Courtship, which includes stories by Kit Morgan, Chautona Havig, Tricia Goyer, Marylu Tyndall, Regina Scott, Marlene Bierworth, Linore Rose Burkard, Camille Elliot, Louise M. Goudge, Lisa M. Prysock, Teresa Slack, and Marilyn Turk.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

Most of the authors in this collection are new to me. I love finding wonderful authors whose writing skills are exceptional. I love that each story begins with a verse of scripture from the Bible. Here is my review of each of the stories.

The Privateer’s Prize
This fast paced, revolutionary war swashbuckler’s tale is filled with great characters, twists, turns, and suspense. A great Christian sweet romance.

Clara’s Compassion
Clara is a wealthy heiress who love teaching. When her father presents her with an opportunity to go West as a Mail-Order Bride and an opportunity to teach, she has mixed feelings. When she arrives in Cranston, she finds the Lord has called her to do much more than just teach. Great characters, wonderful story and sweet Christian values.

Miss Spencer Meets Her Match
A delightful tale filled with a Cinderella Ball, a needed bride and tons of subterfuge. Great characters!
Lissa and the Spy
Wonderful characters, a twisted plot, and a spy ring make this a fabulous read!

Abiding Faith—Freedom’s call
Set in St. Augustine Florida during the Revolutionary War, this wonderful story has great God loving characters, brothers on opposing sides, a hidden treasure and a fearsome bad guy. Delightful!
Grace in the Storm
The premise for this story was cute but I didn’t like the letter writing and the romance seemed forced.

Courting Miss Darling
This sweet romance takes place in Casper Wyoming in 1885 with letters between Muriel and Peter, a rancher from South Dakota. Their growing feelings and the suspense added to the wonderful story.

Jory’s story-5 stars
This wonderful story has humor, suspense, mystery, romance and great characters. I couldn’t put it down and loved meeting this new author!

Mail Order Millie
After her father’s death, Millie answers an ad for a mail order bride in Baker Oregon. When she gets to there, her intended is late picking her up at the train station. Only really, her intended is dead. Bram Henry is a spy and the two characters dance around each other as they try to solve a deadly problem in town. Cute characters, sweet romance, and suspenseful intrigue.

Leftover Mail-Order Bride
This wonderful story has humor, romance, suspense and great characters. When Victoria comes to Puget Sound as a mail-order bride, her intended married while she was in journey. She found a temporary home with a Minister and his wife who decided to act as a matchmaker. Delightful!

Priscilla’s Promise
A wonderful heartwarming story. Priscilla is torn between keeping a promise to her father on his death bed and what her heart wants. Great characters, action, and romance.

The Gilding of Minnie Tucker
I love the characters in this story. I loved learning about the Vanderbilt mansion in North Carolina and the conditions in 1899.

Once Upon a Courtship is a luscious compilation of romantic novellas by award winning writers. So, fix yourself a cup of tea and get ready to disappear into the swoony worlds of Regency and other dreamy times. While I am still reading many of them, the first one I read, Miss Spencer Meets Her Match by Linore Rose Burkard was an enchanting story about Millicent Spencer the daughter of a Baron who has recently returned from America with new and bold ideas of equality. She dreams of marrying a Vicar and helping the poor. In the meantime, Lord Beaufort is being forced by his mother to marry and he hates the pandering and desperation of all the women who want him for his money and title. When his mother hosts a Cinderella Ball so he can meet an appropriate wife, he trades places with the awkward vicar Mr. Sandstone so that he can observe the ladies to discover what they are really like.

Millie and her intensely shy cousin Sophina attend the ball with Millie pretending to be a companion so that her cousin will have a chance at the Earl. Of course, Millie is immediately drawn to the handsome and dashing “Vicar” Mr. Sandstone (the actual Earl). And he finds her equally fascinating. The shy Sophina and the bumbling “Earl” also manage to find each other. The story, a little bit Midsummer Night’s Dream meets the Prince and the Pauper is a fun Regency romp. Ms. Burkard masterfully handles the switching of characters, clever dialogue along with the added beauty of candlelight descriptions of lovely gowns and extravagant ballrooms. It was a fun and dreamy read.

I also just finished Lissa and the Spy by Camille Elliot. This is another sweet Regency novella with plenty of humor and exciting tension to keep the pages turning. Lissa Gardiner is overly smart and very opinionated and notices the mysterious Lord Stoude. When she cheekily saves him from being discovered in his eavesdropping, he finds her fascinating. Soon they are crossing paths at various balls and parties but Lissa doesn’t know if he could possibly be interested in her for herself, or for her assistance. She also doesn’t realize that there could be real danger in what is going on in the glittering world of the Ton. Ms. Elliot weaves a charming and swoony story that is a delight to read.

I plan to spend much more time reading the other novellas. If the other stories are even half as good as these two, I will be a very happy reader.

I received an advance reader copy for free and I am leaving my honest review voluntarily

I read “The Privateer’s Prize” and while being a novella, it holds all the adventure and banter that I have come to love in Tyndall’s writing. Thea and Isaac are both fleshed out characters with backstories, emotions and miscommunications. I hate reading Christian books where characters are surface level and don’t make sense; and I have never had that with one of Tyndall’s books, “The Privateer’s Prize” being no exception.

Thea’s anger toward Isaac, and his feelings for her as well as guilt over the past compels the story forward in such an enticing way. The flashes of care, concern and love break through the anger and guilt in such a charming and natural way. Tyndall also does a great job bringing the world to life and giving us backstory and context without it feeling rushed.

Thea’s anger toward God makes so much sense with what she has come through and taking the journey with her as she deals with those feelings is a blessing. I love that Tyndall is bold and honest with her character’s relationships with the Lord. Her characters get angry, curse out God, pray to Him, watch His mighty hand work and surrender to Him. There are so few authors that truly share the Gospel message in fiction books but Tyndall openly shares about the sacrifice Christ made for our sins! Her stories are a witness to a broken world!

I loathe spoilers so I don’t want to say much more about the story but I will say this; Tyndall never misses the mark with adventure! I love reading her book and getting lost in the sea faring world. This novella is a great introduction if you have never read one of her books before... but be warned it will give you the desire to read one of her full-length novels. Genuinely I cannot recommend her books enough, she has long been my favorite author since discovering her “Legacy of the King’s Pirates” books! You will not be disappointed by this read!!!

Though I can't speak to the entire collection, I was able to read an advance copy of THE PRIVATEER'S PRIZE by Marylu Tyndall. Below is my review.

THE PRIVATEER’S PRIZE by Marylu Tyndall, one of the installments in the Novella collection-Once Upon a Courtship, is exceptional! When it comes to writing pirate tales, no one does it better than Ms. Tyndall.

Thea Cabot has already lost so much. Abandoned at the alter by her fiancé Isaac Prescott, her reputation in shambles, and the death of her father, has set her on the path before her. Carrying a secret message from her father’s patriot spy ring, she sails from Georgia to Annapolis with information that could change the war. When the merchant ship she’s aboard is overtaken by a privateer, she is shocked to see that its captain is none other than the very man who broke her heart.

Isaac Prescott cannot believe his eyes. Thea Cabot, the woman he once loved; still loves, stands before him. Though he is certain she will never forgive him for leaving her at the alter, he might not get the chance to ask. When others pursue his ship, Isaac is sure they’re after the loot in his hold. To his surprise, it is Thea they are after. Sacrificing all, Isaac is determined to keep Thea safe.

The action and chemistry in THE PRIVATEER’S PRIZE are exactly what you would expect from a romance on the high seas. Thea is confused that her heart still beats for the man who humiliated her and ruined her life, while Isaac is shocked to learn of Thea’s conspirator ways. Realizing they are both on the same side of the war makes Isaac hopeful they can still have a life together, but Thea doesn’t know if she will ever be able to trust the man who chose the sea over a life with her.

Once Upon a Courtship is an amazing and fun book full of historical fiction novellas that are going to have you in tears (from laughter)!!

Some of my favorite authors are in this collection! Chautona Havig is amazing and I’ve read everything I can find by her. I’d say I’ve read everything she’s written but I feel that she has a lot I haven’t read just from the extra bit she wrote to help support this book!

Leftover Mail Order Bride was so fun! She wants to marry for love. She was a mail order bride but left at the altar. So now she will marry for love! Except the guy who wants to marry her does love her. But she is too stubborn to be convinced of that! I loved reading about their courtship and romance.

And of course Chautona stole the show again! I loved Muriel and all of her ways. She’s a teacher who decides having a pen pal isn’t a bad thing. He’s a rancher in search of a wife. Can they both get something from all these letters? I loved the letters! I laughed so hard. The characters were real and I feel like I need to visit them again.

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.

Included in the “ Once Upon a Courtship” series of Sweet Historical Romance Collection of books is “The Privateer’s Prize”, by MaryLu Tyndall. It’s a dive back into time when privateers and pirates sailed the seas. A time when a new nation, America, was struggling politically, economically, and for their independence from the British. MaryLu is so good at incorporating true historical facts into an action-packed story with characters that you can completely relate to. Their struggles with their own desires and fears, while learning to trust and rely on God for the help they need, keeps you in complete suspense
As Thea and Isaac have a very strange reunion, the War is raging, and they must discover their way to safety while they discover each other all over again. A thrilling and exciting way to get a glimpse of life that could have happened during this time in America’s history.
It was a time during the American Revolution, when you learned who you could trust and who you couldn’t. Even those closest to you might be an enemy. This has all the excitement, action, intrigue, and romance to keep you completely drawn into the story. I highly recommend it for entertaining and fun reading.

I am a Marylu Tyndall fan and this (so far) is the only story I've ready from this collection of top notch authors.

Marylu is a gifted writer in that she weaves God's character into each of her stories but does so in a way that also shows beautiful and often gritty character development. An author that knows God is able to do this so we can see wonderful redemption arcs and how God relates to each of her characters. This story is no different.

We meet Thea, a young lady left at the altar by the then-young and impetuous Isaac. We learn their back stories as the story progresses, which flesh out their character and subsequent faith journeys. The supporting characters of Ruth, Colonel Barstow and the ships crew are very colorful and well you just feel like you're there in the story with them.

Because this is such a short read (and believe me it's not lacking for content because Marylu always packs a TON into her stories!) , I don't want to say too much bc it will be a spoiler.

Suffice it to say you will be satisfied with this story, especially the redemption arcs, the working of the Lord in each of their lives (without being preachy--it's just natural), the relationship of the hero & heroine and Gods ability to change hearts.

It's a lovely read and it will leave you feeling like you just finished a really good comfort food dinner with great friends :)

This review is for Jory's Story by Lisa Prysock just one for 12 in this collection.

Jory had had a great time dancing with Lord Archer Thornberry. She thought she would hear from him afterwards but he ghosted her. Till the following year she receives a letter to be his governess to his 4 children. Then she sees ad article that states that Lord Thornberry will be moving in A mistress and a fiance to his home.
Her heart is breaking and she doesn't want to go. So she says doesn't feel she can fill that position. She's has only been an assistant governess before. But she agrees to a 2 months trial, to allow him time to seek a more qualified governess for the position.

I had thought this was going to be a love story with Jory and Archer but then it turned out to be mystery and everyone's lives are in danger in the Thornberry house. What an amazing turn of events, that's all I'm gonna say, as I don't want to spoil it. So I hope you will read this novella and be as shocked as I was.
As time goes by she starts to love these children.

This review is for MISS SPENCER MEETS HER MATCH! I was given the story as an ARC reader, but these are my own thoughts.

I really enjoyed this story and boy is it convoluted! The Earl needs a wife and his mother has set up a Cinderella Ball so he can make his choice - but he doesn't want one of the simpering women who are always at these things - so he switches identities with the Vicar who hates the idea but must agree - he is the Earl after all. She wants nothing to do with the ball, she doesn't want to marry one of the nobility or someone of rank - but her mama wants her to and insists she go to the ball, dressed in all her finery! She and her companion switch identities - maybe her companion will find a good match and just maybe she will find a wealthy vicar to marry so she can continue to do her work with the poor! All that information is at the beginning of the story so no real spoiler there! It's how it all works out that is the fun in this story.
This is an easy and clean read, no bad language and just a sweet romance.

This collection features twelve authors who put together stories from different time periods that will keep readers entertained for hours. I received a sample of four stories from this delightful collection. It is filled with as wonderful characters. I enjoyed each story and how the women were strong and determined. In one of the stories we find two people start a friendship by writing letters to each other. Not many letter writing is done these days. Wouldn’t it be nice if we sent a letter to a friend or family member to let them know we care?

The book delivers a nice look at following God and learning to trust Him with your life. Each story finds us watching relationships grow and the trials they each go through like being on a ship with dangerous men, working hard on a ranch, or a father that tries to pay someone to be your husband. I can’t wait to get my hands on the entire collection and discover more stories by a variety of authors.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

copy!

Going to start this review different by saying that I received a sample of four stories from Regina Scott, Marylu Tyndall and Chautona Havig and Marlene Bierworth. I am hoping to be able to purchase the complete book when it comes available on October 22 2024. This is a book of12 different romance books by all Christian authors and different time periods.I have read books by most of these authors and have enjoyed them. I recommend this book rather you like these authors or if you want to see if you would like a new author to enjoy their books. Ok, I have to be honest and tell you that while reading “Leftover Mail-Order Bride” by Regina Scott I kept laughing out loud, not because I thought the story was that funny, but the name of one of the characters that the minister’s wife was trying to match make with the main character in this was Mr.Goodenought, it just struck me as funny. I won’t tell you if they got together or not you’ll have to read the book to find that out.
I received a complementary copy from the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own.

I plan to read all the stories in this wonderful collection. I have read and thoroughly enjoyed Linore Rose Burkard's contribution entitled Miss Spencer Meets Her Match. This is a delightful Regency short story brimming with deception. Millie Spencer is a titled lady who wants to marry a rich clergyman rather than a titled gentleman so she can engage in charitable causes. Earl Beaufort wants to find a woman who will love him for what he is and not his position or money. The earl's mother throws a Cinderella ball hoping he will find a wife before it is over. The earl stipulates he will only attend if untitled ladies are present. So Millie cannot attend nor does she have any desire to do so.
Her cousin can go and decides to go only if Millie will accompany her. This will only work if Millie goes under another name. Meanwhile, the earl has some deception of his own planned. The result is a ball full of humor and surprises. Before it is over, Millie will meet her match in more ways than one!

Priscilla's Promise
Priscilla's dad passed away 3 years ago. She's 21 now. She is at her uncle's ranch in Channing, Nebraska. Before he died, he wanted to make sure she was taken care of. She had been promised to her business partner's son in marriage. (They lived in Annapolis.) Now that Priscilla has been on the ranch for 3 years, her life has changed. She wants love and not an arranged marriage. Her uncle has 4 daughters and no sons. None of them are married as yet. He raised them to be strong and independent. One day Priscilla falls into a hole. Isaiah helps her out. He's an engineer from the university in Lincoln studying the underground water reservoir on her uncle's land. She is smitten with him and his knowledge. She's been working in the office of the ranch doing math and organizing. When she receives a letter that Peter is coming to get her so they can get married, she is unsure what she wants to do. Priscilla feels she needs to honor her promise to her father, but her uncle reminds her that she needs to do what God is calling her to do. Very good book!

Once Upon a Courtship is a wonderful collection of twelve historical romance novellas. These novellas are written by some highly admired Christian fiction authors. I was honored to have the opportunity to read a four of them. They include: MaryLu Tyndall's The Privateer's Prize, Regina Scott's Leftover Mail Order Bride, Marlene Bierworth's Clara's Compassion, and Chautona Havig's Courting Miss Darling. I loved every single one of these and could not pick a favorite.

I am giving Once Upon a Courtship a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for fans of collections of quick and clean historical romances. I can not wait to get my hands and eyes on the rest of this collection.

I received a digital sampler of Once Upon a Courtship from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

Once Upon a Courtship box set:
Leftover Mail-Order Bride by Regina Scott
Could a frontier rancher find true love with a polished lady? Victoria travels west as a mail order bride to find she doesn’t have a husband waiting. Jack Willets is looking to marry, but not a mail order bride. Regina Scott weaves a tale of pure frontier fun!

Grace in the Storm by Tricia Goyer
Sweet story of two hearts finding each other in the midst of a raging hurricane. Grace and William had fallen in love but never met in person. Until God and fate bring them together.

Miss Spencer Meets her Match by Linore Rose Burkard
Ms Burkard does it again! This is a delightful tale of switched identities and finding love without all the false pretending. Looking forward to the other stories in this set. Hope they are all this good.

I enjoyed the stories of various authors who are in this collection. They were each unique and featured strong heroines that faced a number of difficulties. I loved the strong faith element in each of the stories portrayed in a realistic way in the lives of those who were facing troubling times or having to make life decisions.

Consider reading this collection if you have a favorite author whose story is included, or you are reading some of these author’s works for for the first time. I really love that you have twelve authors’ stories and get a taste of what their writing style is like. Readers young and mature are sure to enjoy this collection.

I received a complimentary copy of the book through Celebrate Lit. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I just love collections like this. Each a good long story and when it ends another immediately ready to continue. Each is quite different from the others, so not a continuance of the previous story. These are some of the very best authors, so you know you're getting engrossing original stories, and there's always something to learn or understand about the time or setting they're in. Wonderfully long read!

I received this book free from the author, publisher and CelebrateLit book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

The Privateer's Prize by MaryLu Tyndall

Whether they're in regards to nefarious pirates, swashbuckling privateers, or dashing lords and elegant ladies—author MaryLu Tyndall's exhilarating novels always sweep the reader away on a seafaring journey from which one wishes never to return! Well, at least not till all the malevolent characters are captured and a HEA ensues!

In 'The Privateer's Prize' a gallant, charming privateer and the beautiful, courageous lady who despises him, must join forces to change the course of the Revolutionary War. Chock-full of hair-raising adventures around every corner, plenty of romantic tension, and a deep faith thread—this is definitely one not to be missed!

I thought that the stories in this collection were unique and very uplifting. I liked how each story was different but each showed how love can change and strengthen a person. I liked that the stories were sweet romances. I liked getting to read stories by authors that I have not read before and it made me interested in reading other books by them. I would recommend this collection and I think that it will help those who read it to be uplifted.

I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors.  A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.

I read Jory's Story by Lisa Prysock. What a great book. Jory manages to get herself hired as a governess assistant to the Duke and Duchess of Gladdington. And the Duchess really takes to her. She even plans to get her married, but the best laid plans don't work out. The book is not just a love story, but also a mystery. It was very entertaining. I highly recommend it. And, if the others in this set are as good, then it's a great anthology.
I did get a review copy of Jory's Story from the author, but this review is my own opinion. I have also ordered the whole set.
