The Long Way Home is an adventure of love and reconciliation, and each of its central characters; Ami, Jaxton, and Jaxton’s grandfather, must make difficult decisions in order to realize his or her dreams. There are episodes of hilarity, of danger, of conflict and crisis and, finally, moments of hope.
About a month after his grandfather has a heart attack, Chicago accountant Jaxton Anderson, against his will or better judgment, has been sent by his parents to help get his grandfather's affairs in order should this be the beginning of the end. The first person he meets upon his arrival his Ami Martin, a young woman who lives down the road from Jaxton's grandfather, who makes him feel unwelcome from the get go not only because of his big-city attitude, but also due to the fact that not a single member of his family felt the need to visit their grandfather after the heart attack. However, a long series of events results in Jaxton beginning to re-examine his life and his values thanks to a growing relationship with his grandfather and, particularly, with Ami. I will admit that I was a bit skeptical when I heard this book described as an "inspirational romance novel." Despite my skepticism, I gave the book a chance and found that what Stallings has crafted is a well-written, descriptive, and introspective narrative about how two people's hearts can change when given the proper motivation.
I needed this story/reminder. Never give up. "God will make a way, when there seems to be no way. He works in ways we can not see, He will make a way . . " I enjoyed the characters, the lessons and the overall story line and settings.
