Kyla Faye is a twenty-something author of dark, adult erotic, and contemporary romance. When she’s not reading about romance, she’s writing about it, trying to give a voice to the characters that live inside her head. She has a caffeine addiction and always has a candle burning.
Ace's novella gave me a deeper insight into how he became the man he was in book two.
It pulled at my heartstrings for the poor young boy that his father stole his innocence as a punishment for being a "bad boy" but to add onto his poor young self, his mother did unspeakable things to him in the name of proving he was a "Good Boy." The childhood struggles just continued to stack on his poor shoulders until he finally found his pretty thing again.
It was interesting to learn a bit more about Ace's backstory and the time he was hiding in the shadows.
Spice was on point and overall wrapped up the first generation, but the question remains, when will we get Olivia's story based on the cliffhanger left at the end of book 2 and her starting a new school! Anxious to see what's to come next.
I have been wanting more of Ace since I finished ‘Ashes’ & Kyla did not disappoint.
this was told in a single pov, from Ace. we get to know him more intimately than the previous book, going back from when he was younger, troubles in foster care, the development of his obsession with Lee, the urges he has & just the healing from his trauma.
not only was this book deep, it was spicy👀 group scenes, yes please😮💨 it was also emotional at times. flashbacks from previous books, just enough to pull your heart strings and make you tear up.
this is NOT a standalone, it’s book 3 in a series. i would also recommend searching up the TW’s as these books can be heavy for some🖤
Kyla Faye did it yet again!! This book is the closure we all didn’t know we needed. It is life through Ace’s eyes and what a twisted and beautiful life it is. The only downside I would say is that I don’t want this perfect series to end. I’m in love with all the character. Congrats Kyla on another perfect masterpiece in the books.
This book is the 3rd in the down we go series. In this novella we got to find out more about Ace and his backstory which we all needed! It is told from when he is a kid and throughout all the ages of his life. I absolutely adore Ace and my heart both breaks for him and is filled with happiness in the end. He had a very difficult upbringing.
Ace is both dark and spicy 🌶️ with group scenes.
I loved finding out more about Ace and seeing how things were from his POV.
You should definitely read the first 2 books first as Ace does contain spoilers but it follows the same story line.
Loved this and thank you to Kyla for the ARC I was so excited to read this one!
When Kyla announced we were getting an Ace novella I was torn. On the one hand I am a massive fan of the down we go duet and didn’t want to risk any reveals in Ace spoiling my feelings, on the other, I would sell my soul to be able to read the duet again so having fresh material in that world was an exciting prospect. Turns out you should always trust the authors vision as I didn’t know how much I needed more of Ace, clearly we didn’t get enough of him in Ashes because now he is my new favourite.
Safe to say you need to read dollhouse and ashes first to enjoy this novella and please do check your triggers as this is hard hitting stuff.
We knew from the duet that Ace and Lee didn’t have an easy upbringing but wow I was not prepared for my heart to be so broken for Ace. While I knew that he found his happily ever after eventually it didn’t stop the tears forming as we learn of the abuse suffered at the hands of both of his parents and the constant hardships he faced being in foster homes. That being said, I did enjoy getting more insight into how he became the man he is and loved seeing the events mentioned in the duet from his perspective. The group scenes were *chef kiss* and left me wanting even more even with the well rounded conclusion to the series. I’m sure we could get back stories on the rest of the guys right?…..:
This book gives you Ace’s backstory on his abusive childhood and how he met and became obsessed with Lee. It goes into detail on why he is so dark and traumatised and makes Dollhouse & Ashes makes so much sense from Ace’s aspect.
I absolutely love this book, it’s helped fill the gaps perfectly from Dollhouse and Ashes. The writing style is amazing and it doesn’t miss anything out. I love the closure you get at the end and I’m glad the rest of the characters were mentioned and involved in the end of Ace’s story.
I the only reason I couldn’t give it five stars was purely because of the jumps between chapters, and since it’s been a few months since I read the first two books, I had to remember where I was in the series in relation to this book. I definitely recommend reading them one after another to get the full experience.
Idk what I was expecting from Ace’s story, but this wasn’t it. This was so deep and emotional. I was so ill reading this and on the verge of tears multiple times. What he survived as a child and into his teen years is just unspeakable.
Ace finding his pretty thing and his dedication to her had me melting. I know he’s a bit of a psychopath but I do not care in the least. I freaking love him and his journey to his own family and happiness!
Favorite moments:
“At that moment, right then and there, I decide that she’s mine. She’s my new pretty thing, and I want her to look at me like that for the rest of my life.”
“Pretty things deserve pretty things.”
“I already have your past, baby. And I’ve been kind enough to share the present, but I will claim your future. Get that through your thick fucking skull. Or I can fuck it through your head if you prefer.”
“You look better when you wear our cum like lipstick.”
This was a fab book! 🤩 It was short and sweet!! but kept me reading from Page to page!! …
This story is all about the MMC ‘Ace’ … it starts on the day that his mother died …
🖤 Throughout the story you learn all about who Ace is … why he is, the way he is … what he has suffered and endured … what he’s done in his past, that he is not proud of, and how he’s overcome his many struggles to be with the girl that he loves!!
This is a traumatic heartbreaking 💔 story full of courage and strength!
I really enjoy reading about this character! the Author did a great job in keeping it separate from the first two books but also linked so that it wasn’t repetitive while still telling it in just the perfect way - that made you want to cry 😢 laugh 😆 smile 😊 and make love 🥰 all at the same time!!
I thoroughly recommend this book!! It’s definitely worth a read … I can’t wait for book 4 to come out!!
Not a story for the weak but one that needed to be told. Ace's story is heartbreaking. This is the third book in the Down We Go series by Kyla Faye and anyone that knows me and says they have no triggers and need a dark romance rec... I most likely said the Down We Go duet. It's highly underrated IMO and this was a fantastic addition to it. Delightfully unhinged. There is nothing morally grey about Ace. He hopped over that rail and went straight to black. My first read of the year and I wouldn't change a thing.
"For her, I’m willing to walk through the flames of hell. I’d burn alive if it meant saving her, and now I have the chance to make her see that. I have her back, and this time, I will never let her go. She won’t escape me again."
***Ace is NOT a standalone. Dollhouse and Ashes must be read first.
“He may be your f-cking present, but don’t for a second think I’m not your future.” 🥵🥵🥵
Oh Ace! Idk how anyone can make you feel for a serial unaliver, but Kyla did. And my heart 💜… whew. That said, you MUST read Dollhouse and then Ashes before you read Ace or you’ll miss out on a lot of the backstory. AND DON’T SKIP THE TWs - READ THOSE AND MAKE SURE YOU’RE OKAY TO TAKE YHIS JOURNEY. Now that the disclaimers are out of the way…
And the chapter about Eli…have some tissues. Oh how I miss that character so much! And to know the relationship he and Ace had together made my heart swell.
Dollhouse was the darkest of “dark romance” I had read at the time, so getting to learn more of Ace, and more of Lee and the rest of the guys through Ace’s stream of consciousness and his story was perfect.
Ace's story is full of more hurt and heartbreak one person should ever have to live through. No child should be born to monsters like his and then given to people who would hurt him as well. Yes, he is a little messed up but it's not his fault and you can't help but admire his dedication to the woman who is the other half of his soul. Always looking out for her and being there when Lee needed reached out. I'm so glad he got the family he deserved how they love and cherish each other is beautiful. I absolutely adored these books and know they will be one's I will reread again and again. Looking forward to Olivia's book eventually. As always please be aware of trigger warnings they are there for your own good. Read this book After you Read Dollhouse and Ashes. 10 out of 10 recommend this series.
Ace is the third book in the Down We Go series that is written by Kyla Faye.
💜 memories 💜 foster care 💜 found family 💜 healing 💜 🌶🌶 spice
In this story, we follow Ace as he grows up. What was life like in his childhood home before he lost his mother? What about after he lost his mother? When Les came into the foster home that he was staying, how did that day go? What other times in his life will we learn? What was his part in helping Les at different times in her life?
This was an interesting look into Ace’s story. There are very dark elements that could be hard for some to read. But in the end, this is what he experienced and unfortunately what many experience within the foster care system. But, I do love a good redemption story and no matter what you go through or what you do, it can be turned around for the better.
I have seen Dollhouse all over bookstagram and I knew that it would be a fantastic read! And I was not wrong. Then came Ashes and I began loved Ace! I still had a lot of questions about his past so I was so glad that Kyla was writing a book just about him!
This book is a single pov that goes into detail about the abuse he suffered from his mother and father. It also showed us some of the scenes that were mentioned in the previous books! Like when he stabbed his foster sister!
I loved getting to know Ace better through this book! It definitely made me want to cry when I got to the end and talked about Eli and all the fears he faced about becoming a father.
This was great. It’s a bit messed up on how his life was but good to know a past to see what made him. Ace and Lee met at a home but she didn’t stay long and Ace wanted her always so they stayed in touch but through the years as he waited she didn’t. He went to a few homes and was always quiet since it just worked out better until his buttons got pushed and something happened. He went through the years waiting and watching Lee until she was ready for him. They didn’t have an easy past at all. Some of the messed up things that he did she forgave since it wasn’t something that had answers. As they got older they made their family what it is and they grew more close and depended on each other more with love.
The story was completely not what I was expecting! But I loved it!! I am so glad that we got a better glimpse into Ace’s backstory and early life. I was pleasantly surprised at his character arc. In Dollhouse and Ashes, he was more withdrawn and not emotionally connected. I absolutely loved seeing him open up & express his love/feelings for his family! I was cheering him on when he decided to confront his demons. I feel like I know him so much better now!! I’d love a book about each guys past! I love learning more about each character. It was a perfect addition to the first 2 books. I cannot wait for Olivia’s next!!! 🖤

Okay so I read the first 2 books in this series last year and I thought I would be able to remember enough to launch into the 3rd without re-capping… nope. This book was suuuper confusing and I pretty much had to reread Ashes to figure out what the heck was happening. It is pretty much a retelling of part of Ashes from Ace’s perspective. There was so much I felt was missing from his point of view that you got in Ashes. I have the 4 star review because Kayla Fae is great and the first 2 books were great but I totally expected book 3 to be about Olivia. I feel like this book needs to be a 2.5 instead of book 3.
I was SO excited to see that Kyla was releasing a book about Ace. Reading his story was exactly the experience I was hoping it would be (except it was way too short imo). I loved everything about Dollhouse and Ashes, but there was always something missing. Reading Ace filled that hole. He was such a mysterious character in the duet but now my questions about him have been completely answered. And it was the closure I needed!
If you haven’t read Dollhouse and Ashes, please do so before reading this or it won’t make any sense to you.
This is the third book in the series after Dollhouse and Ashes. You must read the first two books before this one.
The book delves into his life from childhood and gives a good perspective as to how he turned out the way he did. We see how his obsession with Lee started and the extreme lengths he took to be with her.
All in all this was a good read and if you have read the first two books this is a must!
Ace is a dark romance story, heavy on the dark. Please check the trigger warnings and read with caution.
ACE's story was AMAZING yet Heartbreaking. This is the third book in the Down We Go series and they must be read in order. We finally get a deeper look into the background of Ace What makes him himself and why he reacts and thinks they way he does. My heart broke reading his story and I ugly cried but felt relief in the end. This story is a must and if you have read Kyla's work before then you already know its a MUST READ. Kyla has given us readers another heart shattering story. I am excited to see what she comes up with next for us readers.
I’ve wanted more from Ace since I read book one and two, and this definitely gave me everything and more than I wanted. It gave me understanding, sympathy, and comfort. Along with Ace healing, he also healed a part of me, and I can’t thank Kyla enough for that. I don’t think the pain and misery from Eli being gone will ever fade, because I loved him so much. I love learning about Ace’s background from his perspective and seeing his thoughts and what demons he has, and how he deals with them. And when book four comes out I will definitely be buying it too because I cannot get enough of them.
This book was amazing. You really need to make sure you read Dollhouse and Ashes first so that you know what’s happening. It captures a great mixture of getting to really know and understand Ace with revisiting parts from the first two book. The spice was there. I wasn’t sure what to think of Ace originally but fell in love throughout the first two books. This book made me fall harder. Please read trigger warnings this is a serious dark romance but a fantastic read.
Wow, what a story. I knew Ace’s book wouldn’t be an easy one to digest , but MAN. Ace has endured trauma and abuse since a young age, which has shaped him into the man he is now. He’s dark, damaged and depraved. But the love, obsession and connection he has to Lee is unmatched. This book was DARK, engrossing ,and heartbreaking , but it was closure . Ace’s story needed to be told for the reader to fully experience this world and characters Kyla created. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I loved DH and Ashes! This is a single POV from Ace. This book delves into Ace's mind and his tragic past to gain insight into what made him who he is and how he and Lee met and their time together. I absolutely loved the chapter about Eli! I can't wait for the next book about Olivia if the cliffhanger from Ashes is anything to go on. 10/10 recommend!
to start off i cant believe all that happened to Ace when he was younger. How no one wanted him until he meet Lee. Didnt expect of him to set the house on fire where everyone was inside. How he mest up Sebastian scheduled it was funny. To good thing he got closure in the end. I was still hoping he would had gotten revenge for Eli since he was really close to him. But in the end it was a good book.
Well I'm glad we got Ace POV. I been waiting for him to be in the spotlight and Kyla did not disappoint. I got the closure I was looking for 😮💨 His story is pretty fucked up. He had such a horrible childhood. It was so heartbreaking!! He dealt with so much trauma. This book is pretty fucking deep and not as spicy as book 2 but still a good amount of spice, you should definitely check out this series. Do check your trigger warnings these are really heavy themes but worth it!!
This book was the perfect way to wrap up Down We Go series. It was so perfectly written this you are able to recall the events in the other two books. This is not a stand alone. You must read the first 2 books are you will be lost. There isn’t as much spice in this book, but is not lacking anything.
Much needed book 3 in the down we go series. this was told from Ace's poverty and we get to know him more than in the previous book, going back to when he was younger, we see everything, foster care, trama, and his obsession for Lee. How it started and developed. It's was simply amazing and the closer I didn't know I needed but am so happy I got!!! I'm sad to see the series end tho.
Ahh I loved getting to know Ace more!! This was a great little novella to get us back into this world and see more of Ace's backstory.
His life definitely was not easy or happy growing up and we get to see a more of why he is the way he is and his life leading to happiness! And to see a little more of their life after ashes was so precious.
This is definitely meant to be a companion novella to dollhouse and ashes and should not be read without reading those two first (but you should definitely go read all three)
I knew going in that I would be seeing trauma, but please check the trigger warnings. This is a dark book and has dark themes.
Dive into Aces story, find out all about his past in this hot, page turning novella. You Learn so much into the insight of Aces life, his love for his pretty thing and what he would do to get to her. You will devour every page and never want it to end. This is an amazing addition to the down we go series.
