Rate this book
Jeanne Rose, affectionatley known as the Grand Dame of aromatherapy to those in the field, has compiled over the years a wealth of practical and researched information about aromatherapy. With her charming humor she weaves the history of aromatherapy. In this book you will find almost anything you would want to know about aromatherapy including recipes, her own and others, from skin care to pet care. She even covers the unusual aspects of aromatherapy such as the musical and chakra qualities of essential oils. An excellent book for beginners or beyond. It is a wonderful book for looking up particular essential oils, finding their properties, cautions etc. for both the beginner and advanced aromatherapy student. The aromatherapy reference charts listed in the book are indispensable and there is even a Chakra and Color chart as well.

An original work-somewhere between a reference book and fairy tale. Jeanne Rose is one of the first writers to talk about aromatherapy. I appreciate the stories, but I’m sure there are more practical books on this topic.

I read this since I am taking Jeanne Rose's online aromatherapy class. A lot of good information in this book. I still won't ingest essential oils though.

For some people, this book is exactly what they're looking for in a book about aromatherapy. It is written in a way anyone can understand and has a fantastic glossary and index. There are a few recipes, many within the text. You will find drawings and poetry throughout. The references section is immense.
I prefer a bit more science in my aromatherapy books. I didn't care for how in the beginning, she talks about needing 10 main oils to be set yet in the recipe section rarely uses them. I'm very glad I have read numerous aromatherapy texts before this or I would be very confused. I am clearly not the target audience but feel like I should be.
