"I don't know how to bear it!" Kit held his beloved close. Talal had to bear it. There was no other option. And Kit would stand beside him, giving him strength until Talal regained his own.
Kit and Talal’s soulmate bond – and their relationship – is stronger than ever. It needs to be. Sudharain is set about by enemies on all sides.
Kit’s home country is determined to destroy the sultanate, while neighbouring Gabalnu has betrayed Sudharain under cover of friendship.
If the sultanate is to survive – much less thrive – Kit and Talal need to use every advantage they can find. They don’t want war, but if war's coming, they’ll do everything in their power to ensure they end victorious.
Fourth volume in the series that began with Assassin, join our heroes as they face Sudharain's darkest hour. In Heir, friendships old and new are tested to their limits while Kit and Talal face dangers and deceit from near and far.
Explosive intricate and passionate fourth book in this stellar romantasy series!
Romantasy fans rejoice, because Katy Haye just gets better and better, and so do our favorite soulmates, Kit and Talal. If you’re here, you know the events of the previous book (and this series is best read in order), but if for some reason you haven’t, there may be spoilers for previous books.
The action is hot, both in the political world and in the soulmates’ bedroom. Who’d have it any other way?! Kit and Talal are confident in their bond, their love for each other, and their future, and yet, life just won’t stop messing with them, testing them, and pushing them to the limits of belief and connection. Talal must face his prophesied future as the new sultan with the sultanate under attack on all fronts. How does one bring peace and prosperity to one’s beloved nation when neighbors who should be allies are determined to kill without provocation? And for Kit, how can he keep his vow to do no harm when enemies threaten all he and Talal have worked to build and the very people he’s sworn to protect?
They can’t without questioning all they hold dear. But their choices and actions show indelibly how holding to a strong moral code in the face of evil can help you come through hardship with your soul—and soulmate—intact.
The author’s continued exploration of issues of the importance of communication, cultural ignorance and disrespect v. education and acceptance, and the ever-constant problem of how to deal with leaders who value ego over human life continues to be inspiring and heart-wrenching, and this book evokes evermore of the Feels. Strong secondary characters continue to weave intriguing threads, including one whose return I’d greatly anticipated, and thorns in sides from previous books grow into intriguing heroes in their own right, often in that marvelous gray area of doing wrong for the right reasons, and what does that mean for right and wrong anyway? Old friends contribute to the twisty plot and new arrivals bring more layers of cleverness to the story.
It's a road hard fought, and not everyone comes out unscathed. But what a journey, and what a love story for the ages. I cannot wait for the next book.
Continuing HFN/HEA. Soulmates. War. Court intrigue, royalty, friendship, romance. It’s all here! Absolutely no cheating or emotional cheating. Highly recommended. Read the entire series!
My thanks to the author for the ARC; this is my free and impartial opinion.
Talal has become Sultan because of the murder of his father. He thought he would have many years with his beloved Kit before he had to take the reins of his country.
I liked the struggle as the men adjusted to their new normal. Kit had the biggest wake up I felt. Talal knew he was going to be Sultan at some point and had been in training for that day. Kit only knew he loved a man who was being stolen from him a bit at a time. Even with that, I also liked that the author didn’t tear them apart, or drag out the decisions they were forced to make.
This story had a lot of action, warfare, intrigue, and sadness. I liked the seemingly modern techniques that were employed in the pursuit of an unwanted conflict between nations. I do wish that Kit’s country would just fade into the desert.
I don’t think this was the strongest entry into the series but it was still good.
With the assassination of his father, Talal is now Sultan and his Sultanate is being tested. Gabalnu betrays them under cover of friendship while Lindumia continues to harass. They will need all their wits as well as their trusted generals and advisors if they are to survive.
It was incredible to see the growth and maturity in Kit. He is willing to step up and express his thoughts and wants nothing more than to help his beloved. Talal is working so hard to maintain his label as just and trying to fulfill the prophesy. Both men are feeling the pressure with trying to keep their people safe while at the same time trying not to be brutal. There is more trouble coming and the final book will truly test them. With trouble from more than one front, we can only hope these two men can keep themselves and Sudharain. I highly recommend this series. It is fascinating and well written. I received a complimentary copy and it was my pleasure to voluntarily leave this review.
The bond between Tal and Kit is strong and they need it to be all that it has proven to be for them so far. As this installment of their story begins Tal's has become the Sultan as his father has been murdered not long after he took a bride. They are each having to learn to grow into their new roles while figuring out who they can and cannot trust. As Tal tries to be a good ruler, do what has to be done and still be just, Kit is learning to be a good counselor and support to his beloved. This is such a compelling story and it is not over. I am looking forward to seeing how their story will proceed. I am betting on Tal and Kit. I received an ARC from GRR and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
I finished Heir and I loved it! This is a continuing series and now I’m anxiously awaiting the next book to continue to read about how their story continues. Each of these books tells the tale of Kit and Talal and the love and life they share with their friends and the weighted responsibility of Talal being the Sultan of Sudharain. I want to write and tell you all about their adventures, but I want you to experience each and every moment for yourself. I highly recommend this series because I know it will capture you and draw you in each and every time. The enemies of Sudharain will rue the day they thought they could bring an end to the Soulmates of Sudharain!
Kit, Talal and co’s story continues here (gentle note that you’ll want to start at the beginning of the series, if you haven’t already). This installment has intrigue and suspense and complications, political, personal, and all things in between. The bond between Kit and Talal is strong, and needs to be, to weather all the things thrown their way (vague here because the plot deserves to be experienced on its own terms). Fans of the series will find lots to like here, as the story continues to be immersive and the characters are interesting in all kinds of ways.
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Talal has been forced into being Sultan much sooner than expected and this is the story of how both he and Kit are struggling to deal with that new role, its responsibilities and its effect on their relationship. That alone would be enough of a strain, but it seems clear that war is coming as Sudharain is threatened and betrayed on all sides. I loved watching the suthor delve into the leadership, negotiation and military skills necessary to deal with the plotting and scheming going on in this world while never losing sight of the personal with Talal and Kit.
This is a good continuation in a great series with political intrigue, betrayal, and potential war on the horizon. Talal has come into his position as Sultan earlier than he expected, and it causes some pressure and personal strain. I loved the way Kit supported him, and how their bond remains strong. There is a good balance between action and the personal relationship between Talal and Kit. I am eager to read the next book. There is a big culmination coming, I think.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
*I got this book free, but this opinion is my own.* Now, I messed up. I didn't read the books in order and so my review might miss important details. That being said, I loved the story. After I don't even know how long, I found a book that didn't put the romance front and centre. Somehow the author managed to do this without sacrificing the characters. I was sad to see it done. I will miss the characters, although I totally missed vital things. If you like adventure and a small dose of romance, this is for you.
Well, this episode of the series certainly ramped up the intrigue level. It seems like there’s some conspiracy going on behind all these myriad random misfortunes befalling poor Kit and his Soulmate, Talal. Lots of action in this one; it looks like war is on the horizon. Which is the last thing the beneficent new Sultan wants for his people. Luckily, working together, our lovebirds are intent on getting to the bottom of things. Off to read the next installment!
Phew, tensions rise. Dealing with new responsibilities Talal does not have much time for his Soulmate. I loved the wake-up-call Kit gave him about that and the absolute steadiness of their connection. The political suspense plot was gripping as ever and there are some unexpected blows from all sides. I enjoy reading about Kit and Talal and am excited to see the final chapter of the story in the next book.

Kit and Talal's strong bond is just the foundation they need to weather the storm of betrayals and political intrigue surrounding them. Their continuing journey keeps pulling me in deeper as they fight to protect what's theirs. I can't wait to dive into the next book.
*I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the GRR team*
This is another good addition to the series, Talal has become sultan following his father’s death, there is still plenty of action and drama in this series and Kit and Talal struggle to find their new normal but really looking forward to the next book in this series and the conclusion of the story.
He is struggling with everything and he is their arms feeling lost. Life around them seems to be getting more dangerous as war is coming and he is not sure where to go to next. Can they help him? Will their love be strong enough for them both? See just how it will all go
I do prefer this one to the last, however I feel like this is still just me reading to complete a task rather than truly being gripped to the story. I’m looking forward to seeing how the story ends though and how they overcome the challenges facing them.
