This manga is just incredibly absurd that sometimes I wonder why I'm reading this. Well, maybe because the characters are all likeable! The characters are all funny and it's fun to see them go through this very weird setting. I'm probably going to continue reading the next volume.
This is getting rather intense! A wild third suitor appears!
Saki uses Confuse, but nothing happened!! Nagisa used smokescreen, but it was ineffective! Better use RUN! So, Naoya (ya lucky git) is caught up trying to figure out how best to please his TWO girlfriends, the lithe, slender, fit Saki, and the short, voluptuous, black haired Nagisa. After thinking they finally got rid of potential girlfriend number 3, Milika, Saki and Nagisa become closer and closer as they've agreed together to fend off Milika, and any other interested parties. They even try to seduce Naoya while wearing lingerie, in hopes of making him forget about Milika. However, Milika is not going to give up so easily. The harder she tries to garner Naoya's favor, the harder she falls in love with him! Our two girlfriends have agreed that they must cooperate in every way possible, as girls always seem to love their man! Everyone is always manic and shouting. It's rather amusing. So finally, thinking Milika had given up, Saki and Nagisa convince Naoya to take them to a hot springs resort. However, someone is lurking in the shadows, and plans to make a surprise appearance that neither Naoya nor the two girls will soon forget! And, just before they leave, Saki's close friend (and classmate) calls and wants to know the address of the resort. You see, she too has been snooping on Naoya and the girls, and assuming the worst, she also plans to make a surprise appearance at the resort, supposedly in the interest of what's best for Saki! Hmmm... I sense we have wild suitor number 4 about to appear! Naoya is just so earnest, honest, supportive, kind, and straightforward that every girl who gets close to him falls in love with him. As for Saki and Nagisa, methinks they shall shortly have their hands full while they are supposed to be on a relaxing vacation with the man they adore! Ah, young love. Such a grand thing, isn't it?
This series is at it’s best when the group members are having heartfelt moments, discovering group dynamics that work for them, or are doing frankly heartwarming stuff like helping one another out instead of ‘competing’ - talking about their feelings in terms of ‘we’ and all that - the weirdly wholesome feeling stuff!
There’s tantalizing bits of that here- especially towards the end, but I’m docking points for most of this volume being spent dealing with a *really* …I’m gonna call her ‘unhinged’ character with some weird logic, and motivations that make me twist my head to the side in uncertain confusion.
I *did* laugh at some of the resulting situations -points for that- but it also takes me out of the story a bit when this girl spends days camping outside their house, demanding to be allowed to live with them (starting within maybe 10 minutes of meeting them for the first time), and characters go “oh dang, you think there’s a chance she’s actually starting to be into Naoya?” …without it seeming to be a joke about them being oblivious.
I’ll be reading the next volume, but I’m hoping for more group dynamics and less totally out there stuff.
