A fun easy read for all ages. Love the way the stories are told in both books. Great descriptive language, complex characters, and a twisty bit near the end. As a person who often knows the ending of a story far too soon, this one kept me guessing! Thanks for a great read! So glad we met the author at Encounterquest!

Once in a while, if you are a reader like I am, you come across something completely different. But in a way that makes you think the great talents of the writing world are still walking among us, producing new books which yank you from your everyday life and drop you into the heart of a tale so incredibly fantastical you want to be a part of it.

That is what I remembered feeling when I read Winslow Hoffner’s Incredible Encounters. So, it was natural that when I heard that author Michael Thompson had come out with a second book, Winslow Hoffner’s High-Sailing Adventures, that I could not wait to get my hands on a copy. I love signed copies of books, so I went to a show that I knew he was going to be at and bought one directly from the author.

He did not disappoint! If you read the first book, you will know how the writing entrances you and makes you feel like you are part of the story, sitting around and listening to Winslow tell his fantastical stories while swilling root beer. In the next book, we are taking things a bit farther.
Of course the ole’ sea captain is back with his tales… or tails… fantastic. In this book we also find there is another element to him. His past is something he will have to reckon with in a big way. It will come back around and force Winslow to reckon with his own past. Even though it means letting go of something he holds so dear.

Michael Thompson does an amazing job spinning this yarn in such a way that it is fun to read. A fast story to read, I find myself actually wanting to re-read the books. I think this is one of those times where, in doing so, you will see more details you missed the first time.

Expertly written, edited, and presented. I would peg this book to be suitable for middle schoolers on up, but I enjoyed it very much and I am fifty. These stories are universal crowd pleasers. This is some violence, but not so bad as to make me want to steer a serious reader in the middle grades off of it.

The artwork is original to Michael as he is also a talented artist, I can highly recommend every part of Winslow Hoffner’s High-Sailing Adventures in every way. It is every bit as awesome as the first one.

In the middle of it all you are left to question if monsters are real? To answer that question, I will borrow Winslow’s own words, “Aye… there be monsters.” But as I found out as I read, sometimes monsters come in the human variety as well. They can be the most terrifying of all.

While a relatively short and light read, the characters and writing style are advanced and make for an engaging set of stories. Michael Thompson does a fabulous job of crafting a world where these characters can believably live, along with stunning and incredible creatures that appeal to Cryptid enthusiasts like myself. The audiobook, read by the author, is also loads of fun. Thompson does a great job of doing different voices for characters, and it only further immerses you into the world of Winslow Huffner. I recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in cryptids, sea monsters, or just good old fashioned tall tales!

This is the sequel to the first book, Winslow Hoffner's Incredible Encounters. We loved the first book so we had high expectations for book 2. It was amazing! Another immersive read that you didn't want to put down. You got to know Winslow more and how he came to be the Winslow he is today. Loved all the cryptids. Some I knew. Others I enjoyed learning about as they appeared and unfolded in the story. I can't wait to see the next adventures in the Winslow Hoffner series and read more by Michael Thompson.

I like how the sequel goes more into Winslow's past and I find out more on who he is. I love the flashbacks.

The Winslow Hoffner series has everything I could want. Cryptids, legends of the deep, humor, mystery, and suspense.

I definitely recommend. A great read.
