I think I would overall rate this series a 3☆ out of 5. The concept is pretty cool but it got repetitive. People do bad things and then Dan kills them. Retribution, yay. It just lacked the depth I was expecting from this kind of story.
The way this volume focuses on one criminal for so long (three chapters instead of the typical one or two) made the ending extra satisfying. Chief Dan continues his escapades of good deeds and I am rooting for him!! But I also continue to be intrigued by his mysterious background. And I wonder if he will ever make a mistake, but I think he may be too good for that.
I love it when bad people get their comeuppance and these people are baddddd okay. Dan might be a psycho but all of his kills are justified tbh also he’s so funny 😭 like he just be doing shit.
This was a morbidly fun read. The manga focuses on Hiroki Dan, a high-up detective that has a lil quirk: he’s a serial killer, killing people that commit heinous crimes in order to see them despair like they cause others to. Thus creating an oddly fun and easy to read set of revenge porn stories. The people he kills are almost comically evil at times, as are the ways Dan commits these murders, so you end up rooting for him and enjoying how he goes about things. There is a lot of sensitive topics and actions depicted in this, and the title lives up to its name. But if you can get past that and want a relatively simple “vigilante” justice story? You’ve got one right here.
Note: As of the date of this review (Feb 5, 2023), this series has been placed on hiatus since July 2022 and has yet to be resumed. This review covers the full series up to the end of all current material in Vol. 5.
I have absolutely loved this series. I’m so sad that it’s been on hiatus for a few years due to the mangaka’s poor health, and I pray that they are able to heal and recover. 🙏 Even if it never gets finished, it was an enjoyable experience nonetheless! I highly recommend it because even though it has no current end in sight, it’s an entertaining bloodbath of a story that promises ~oh so satisfying~ revenge in the most brutal of ways. Chief Dan is the MAN. 🔥🤌😏
This series went on hiatus in 2022 and as of 2025 is back with a new artist, Ryo Shinou (who, honestly, is the reason I'm reading this now even though the series has been on my TBR for a while). We'll see when Goodreads adds the new series (Doom).
I'm kinda disappointed in this series, to be honest. I'm sure there is a lot more to learn about Hiroki Dan, but we're five volumes in and we've barely gotten any crumbs of his life or his inner psychological self. Maybe I have to read Trace to understand him better...but I don't really want to. The series also kind of lost a bit of its brutality over the course of it all. Or maybe I just got more desensitized? It's not like I wasn't already desensitized to the violence at the beginning.
I think part of it is that it just got a little bit repetitive, the way he would just swoop in at the end and deliver some poetic justice to the criminals. I mean, that's the whole point of the series so you're expecting it, but still. It's all got the same structure and it just becomes a bit less interesting all the time. Yeah, they all commit different crimes, but all the stuff Dan does matches the crimes they commit, and then it just kind of ends up as a rehashing of the crimes that we just saw happen.
And it is still never revealed how Dan manages to get away with all of this. He's just like some invincible guy who can do everything, I guess. The things wealthy people can do.
Sesuai judul, isinya memang brutal.
It became more interesting than the previous volumes by giving hints about the protagonist's motivation. Those hints were particularly intriguing since:
(a) Dan's motivation seems to be related to an old same-sex relationship while those who admire him expect him to like very beautiful girls having very high standards (lol).;
(b) Dan seems to both detest and love this person. Maybe he was betrayed by him? Dunno...
In any case, despite those hints being quite intriguing, they were still feeble, sparse, and they were provided in a very slow pace.

Aww so tragic this is it for now, the series is on hiatus. 😔
Gay CONFIRMED. The way our boy literally just stumbles into situations goes on.😭 Nasty ass women abusers deserve it frfr. And god Dan is so unhinged and chaotic.
I wish he had an enemy though, someone just as good as him that he can't seem to catch. I wanna see him lose his cool, go even crazier. Even while doing what he does he stays so calm like nah, spice it up !!
Man. I'm not tryna be sounds ungrateful because Kei Koga decided to continue the project without Izawa, but the sequel of this manga just not hits in the spot like the this version. I feel like the sequel lack of Dan's personality— like there's nothing else beside him being a silly serial killer. I wanna know more about him, his family, his personality or anything elses! But again, glad Kei Koga didn't just decided to abandoned this series though.
Honestly this is not bad, but I guess it's just goes toooooooooooo not bad that it become chronically mundane. Nothing remarkable tbh. I can't symphatize with the main character because he is bland as fuck. But I like the bonfire scene though and his past left me curious. Hugs to all the women and the poor who suffer injustice from these assholes :') We need a less brutal Dan irl lol 💀💀 /j
these 4 stars are for the... unique christmas tree. if you know, you know
i'd really like to know more about Dan's backstory, but i believe the author is on hiatus because of health issues :( if this ever gets continued, you bet your ass i'll be waiting with bated breath. we need more wannabe Dexters (but cooler)!!!!
I really wish they had continued with this series. the one by one case format was great for a while but after 4 volumes I really wanted to know more about the main character and the regular supporting characters
