“Promise me one thing. No snooping. Just for one week.”
Gabby St. Claire knows that her fiancé’s request is a simple one that she should be able to honor. After all, Riley’s law school reunion and attorneys’ conference at a hoity-toity resort is a chance for them to get away from the mysteries Gabby often finds herself involved in as a crime scene cleaner. The weeklong trip is a chance for them to be “normal,” a word that leaves a bad taste in Gabby’s mouth.
But Gabby finds herself alone for endless hours while Riley is busy with legal workshops. Then one of Riley’s old friends goes missing, and Gabby suspects one of Riley’s buddies might be behind the disappearance. When the missing woman’s mom asks Gabby for help, how can she say no?
Secrets abound. Frankly, Gabby even has some of her own. When the dirty truth comes out, the revelations put everything in jeopardy—relationships, trusts, and even lives.
Christy Barritt is an author, freelance writer and speaker who lives in Virginia. She’s married to her Prince Charming, a man who thinks she’s hilarious—but only when she’s not trying to be. Christy’s a self-proclaimed klutz, an avid music lover who’s known for spontaneously bursting into song, and a road trip aficionado. She’s only won one contest in her life—and her prize was kissing a pig (okay, okay… actually she did win the Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence in Suspense and Mystery also). Her current claim to fame is showing off her mother, who looks just like former First Lady Barbara Bush When she’s not working or spending time with her family, she enjoys singing, playing the guitar, and exploring small, unsuspecting towns where people have no idea how accident prone she is.
Another fun addition to this series! I loved the setting, since I know the area well. I relate to Gabby in so many ways. I love coming back to these books, especially after a hard read. Theyre a great pick me up!
I didn't actually finish this book. Why? Because I was getting sick of Gabby. The author was slow building things in the first two books, but in 3&4 we get on a bullet train towards story progression. I got whiplash at how much some things changed. And also Gabby was really getting on my nerves with all of her feminist attitudes. It fit her character but was frustrating none the less. Also I got a little uncomfortable with her interaction with Riely. While they were careful about some things, the kissing was... passionate. The thing that sealed it for me was that I saw a spoiler for the later books and decided this series wasn't going somewhere I wanted to read.
This is still a good clean mystery series, it just wasn't for me.
I was rather disappointed with this one. I think our heroine must have been going through a 'duh' period - the book would be 50% shorter if she had used her brains from the beginning. The criminal set up was kind of obvious...
This is book #4 in Christy Barritt's Squeaky clean Mystery series. Honestly, Gabby St. Claire, our girl heroine, is so crazy. I can't wait to see what she does in each book. In this book she does plenty.
Gabby and her fiance, Riley, go to a fancy retreat in the mountains and away from civilization for a lawyer conference and so that Riley can bond with his old college friends. Hard working Gabby is out of her element here but she tries to fit in, and to keep her promise to Riley to not nose into another mystery. Mystery hits her in the nose when her roommate, a female lawyer friend of Riley's, is missing- kidnapped. Gabby goes into action secretly befriending the help staff. And of course she ends up in the killer's sights, as usual. Plus that, she struggles with fitting into Riley's life, especially when his old fiance appears in the picture.
Riley and Gabby head to a resort for a lawyers convention/retreat and find more than they bargain for going on in the wealthy tourist town. When Riley's ex-fiancé shows up as a guest at the resort, Gabby has to work through lots of misgivings about their relationship. Full of adventure, danger and (of course) a murder, Gabby has her hands full in this one. Fun read!
ETA Just listened to the audiobook version of this and I loved it so much! It has been so nice to revisit Gabby, Riley, Sierra and Chad and all of the gang via audio. Still my favorite Barritt series of all time. I liked the narrator as well, which is key to liking the audiobook.
I'm still enjoying this book series. Although, now it looks like I have to wait until the next addition. It was nice that this particular story took place in a different setting with a bunch of new people. Good mystery and action.
Newly engaged Gabby accompanies her fiance to a fancy resort. He says to her “Promise me one thing. No snooping. Just for one week.” Well as you know Gabby trouble finds her and she finds it virtually impossible to not snoop. One of Riley's lawyer friends from when he was in law school comes up missing. Gabby would rather snoop than hang out with Riley's hoity toidy friends from law school. One of the things i liked about this book is how she made friends with the cleaning staff there. Just because she was staying in a fancy resort she didn't think she was better than the staff. Many twists and turns in this book that kept me turning pages.
Such a great story! I love all the characters! I cant wait to see what the future holds for all of them! This writer does an amazing job keeping you on your toes and keeps the final details secret until the end! With every chapter I thought I had the killer/criminal figured out and then I kept reading and realized I was wrong! I never even thought of the person who actually turns out to be the killer/criminal! Wonderfully written! Highly recommend!
This book reminds us not to put ourselves in a box. Our value has nothing to do with our financial circumstances. As believers it comes with Who we believe in and that He believes in us. When we put our faith in Jesus Christ and what He offers we become new creations yet we have a lot of growing to do. Most growth comes from difficult circumstances. Gabby and Riley are learning how to have a healthy relationship including trust and acceptance. Next stop book 5!
Christy had done it once again. I truly loved this book. It's got some really great New characters. I wonder if we'll find out what became of 2 of them😁? You'll have to read to figure out of whom I am referring. Oh and hold onto your had I was guessing at the bad guys, let's just say the head and guy was on the list but say further down than he should've been. Thank you Christy, God bless you lady you keep me entertained.
Gabby is at it again. She just can’t keep her nosy nature at bay and finds herself into another mystery while on vacation this time. After several people end up missing and at least one dead, Gabby gets involved in the case. Short, read that I didn’t have the killer figured out until the very end. I like these kind of books, just gets you away from life and doesn’t make you think too hard.
What a wonderful and enjoyable read. The suspense has risen in this last installment for our heroine Gabby. She and her fiance Riley arrived at this luxury hotel for a legal conference and try as she could to stay away from other people's business, she finds that she can't resist when one Rileys' friends goes missing. And with that the fun begins.
Gabby with her fiancee Riley go on a week long conference with his former college friends.Secrets come to light for each one along with a disappearing friend and the appearance of a handsome man from India. Gabby struggles with Riley friends approval adds more disappointment and she finds herself in more trouble than she ever could imagine.
I love this series. It's fun, easy, but entertaining. I'm glad there are so many of them, it's a good "go to" series for a light read that sucks you in to the story. I'm actually going to start it over before reading on.
Like all of her books, this one was a cut above. I love that she can write so many venues, make them real and still not use poor language or unnecessary visuals. Read ALL of her work.
Another enjoyable and fun book. I continue to learn lessons in her words and that is why I keep coming back. The author can out Scripture into seemingly real life problems.
Wow! This book took so many turns and was so exciting I couldn't put it down! I don't know she continually brings new and intriguing suspense to stories but everyone of them is better than the last.
This is a really good mystery with romance and excitement. I got a little frustrated with all the problems that came against Gabby in the novel but she was able to overcome all of them!
A fun and interesting read. Riley and Gabby are working through life. Forgiveness is a number #1 key. Honesty actually beats it out though. Story kept me “turning” those electronic pages. Enjoy. On to the next!
A very good clean cozy murder mystery, with twists, deceptions and love. Well written and keeps your interest throughout - who could ask for anything more?
I am loving this series. There are clever ideas with just enough twists and turns. I recommended these books to my daughter since it is based in Virginia Beach. These books are nice, fast reads.
