RL Atkinson has done it again. For Her is the third book in the Duke Series, but can be read as a standalone. Oh I love Duke Ranch and Cassidy and Briar. Cassidy, the youngest Duke brother gets his own story and I loved it. He is the beloved playboy cowboy who greets Briar when she arrives at the ranch with an abused horse and a letter from his long ago friend. Briar is sassy, spunky and a bit protective of her feelings, but the chit chat and chemistry between the two are definitely there. A definite must read if you love romance with a bit of suspense. I’m looking forward to book 4.
ARC Review ✨️ ☆Cassidy and Briar☆ R.L. Atkinson always writes the best cowboy romances! If I could be transported to anywhere in the books I've read, it would be to this ranch she created, Duke Ranch! I love the characters so much, Cassidy is the dream golden retriever cowboy, and Briar is an amazing FMC with a great personality🙌 Excuse me while I go mope around the house because this was the end of the Duke Ranch 😭🙄🤣
I am a horse girly through and through and married to a man who grew up on a cattle ranch so this book was a warm little nugget of nostalgia for me (in the very loosest sense lol). Briar shows up on the Duke Ranch with what is very obviously a stolen horse, asking Cassidy to help her train the horse. Cassidy is reluctant given Briar is obviously on the run from something or someone, and only agrees to help after she calls in a favor he owes an old friend.
There is a surprisingly large amount of action in this book, including shoot outs, cowboy “gangs”, and intentional car wrecks-which is uncommon for cowboy romances so it was a refreshing read! The spice is closed door-not my usual reading choice but I knew that going into it so I was prepared. The tension between the two main character’s was delicious from the beginning even when they were pretending to hate each other. One thing I loved about this book was that Briar was not your usual ‘I know nothing about ranches/riding/anything useful’ fmc. She grew up riding and ranching, dressed like a real cowgirl would (men’s jeans, worn out boots, T-shirts), and knows how to ride a horse. While I enjoy the ‘let’s share a horse since you don’t know how to ride’ trope, a strong fmc who already knows how to ride is amazing. The fmc is also “nearly six feet” tall-as an over six foot tall woman myself, I always enjoy reading about fmc’s that more resemble me!
For Her by R.L. Atkinson is a captivating romance novel that will sweep you off your feet. This is the third book in the Duke Series, but it can definitely be enjoyed as a standalone. The chemistry between Cassidy and Briar is palpable from the very beginning, and I found myself rooting for their relationship to blossom throughout the story.
R.L. Atkinson has a way of creating characters that are both relatable and lovable, and Cassidy and Briar are no exception. Cassidy is the charming cowboy with a heart of gold, while Briar is a strong and independent woman who isn't afraid to speak her mind. Their banter and interactions had me turning the pages eagerly, wanting to know what would happen next.
The storyline is filled with suspense and intrigue, keeping me on the edge of my seat until the very end. I loved how the romance between Cassidy and Briar developed, and how they both grew as characters throughout the book. The setting of Duke Ranch added an extra layer of charm to the story, making me wish I could visit this fictional place myself.
Overall, For Her is a wonderful romance novel that I highly recommend to fans of the genre. R.L. Atkinson has once again delivered a captivating story filled with love, adventure, and a hint of danger. I'm eagerly looking forward to book 4 in the Duke Series, and can't wait to see what she has in store for us next.
For Her is yet another fantastic book by R.L. Atkinson. Im always so excited to start one of her books because I know I’m going to get an amazing mix of deep characters, a plot that is both easy to follow but exciting, and keeps my attention from page one. The plot in this book kept me on my toe. It was fast paced and kept me turning the pages to find out what would happen next with a mystery like feel at times. One of my favorite things about reading an R.L. Atkinson novel is that she has the title somewhere within the book. It’s like a little Easter egg hunt to find the title and see how it ties into the plot and characters. The characters in this novel were as usual so well developed. It’s easy to feel emotionally connected to the new characters and the characters from the previous novels who reappear are immediately endearing again. I highly recommend reading the first two books in the series For Him and Imperfectly Ours (both great as well) before reading this. You could certainly enjoy the book without reading them but you’d lose the depth of one of the main characters and many of the side characters both of which really highlighted some major moments throughout the story. For Her is an amazing read and a great addition to the series.
If you are looking for a sassy FMC and the golden retriever cowboy who takes it, this is the book for you.
Briar shows up on the Dukes ranch with a stolen horse and a mystery paper saying to help her. She is very standoffish towards Cassidy. But over time hate turns to love.
The moment Cassidy sees her, he is head over heels. He knows he shouldn’t want to help her but can’t stop himself. Over time his reasons for wanting to help her change.
There is no spice in this book, but there is some slow build up between these two.
This book is all about growth between each character but also the animals. The found family vibes are definitely flowing.

. . .
. . . The only thing I don’t understand was the insertion of her mom in this book. She was meant to be dead her whole life but went on to actually be alive? But not just alive, had another kid with someone?! That seemed a little weird and not necessary for the story. Other than that it I enjoyed it.
Cassidy was a reformed playboy working on his family ranch, the last thing he expected was a woman with a stallion and an attitude to roll up to the ranch. Briar was in trouble, her father had died and his best friend sent her to Duke ranch, she wasn't looking for a relationship, much less a seemingly perfect man who loved pushing her buttons. I love Cassidy, he is completely smitten with Briar, and isn't sure how to react to her attitude towards him. For once in his life, his charm wasn't working. Briar is overwhelmed, her father passed, her cows were killed, she stole an abused horse from an man who is after her and Cassidy is after her in a different way. Although I can understand some reasoning for Briar keeping her walls up, there were times that she was unnecessarily mean to Cassidy. But once she let him in, they really did have good chemistry. This is a slow burn with no spice, which usually isn't my style but I love all of the RL Atkinson's books that I've read.
As always this author never disappoints. This book is amazing and can be read as a stand alone unless you’re like me and want to read the ones that started this one. Book 1: For Him Book 2: imperfectly Ours and Book 3: For Her.
For her is simply amazing! the Dukes are everything you want in a family and looks to boot. This story will keep you on your toes if you truly submerse yourself in this you will not be disappointed at all. There were some moments I wanted more love scenes (spice) but R.L isn’t about that and that’s okay because she put enough in there to make you swoon over just kissing Cassidy.
I highly recommended at least reading for Him but if you don’t that’s okay both books are definitely great alone with HEAs. I call this more contemporary country romance. I can not wait to read her other books.
The ability to write perfect cowboy romances that R.L. Atkinson seems to have is mind boggling. Honestly, I have loved everything of hers that has been written so far. This was right up there with greatness.
Cassidy and Briar were just . . . chef's kiss. Everything about their relationship was just so good as far as chemistry goes. They worked. Frankly, my only issue was Briar's attitude about some things. This is more of a reverse grumpy x sunshine so it makes sense, but to me, she came across as more of a harpy than someone struggling with something. The reactions didn't always line up well.
Regardless, this was fantastic. The pacing, the world building, the characters (both main and side) were all so cohesive and wonderful. If Atkinson wrote and published her grocery list, I'd probably read and love that too judging by all her other successes.
This book was a wild ride from start to finish. It was so exciting being transported back to the Duke Ranch and I'm kind of sad to see it ending.
We met Cassidy in Atkinson's first novel, For Him. In this one though, he's finally decided he wants what his brother. A family to call his own. He feels stuck, forcing himself to repay a debt, even though he wants to do more. But than Briar shows up needing help.
The banter between these two is hilarious. I found myself giggling A LOT. Cassidy is definitely the king of sass and Briar keeps him on his toes.
If you're looking for a cowboy romance with a bit of suspense and a heavy make out session or two, I highly recommend.
I received a copy of this book to read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own!
This book took me on a wild ride. It was a great read. I love a good cowboy romance. Briar did frustrate me as a character but I think her character was just as frustrated so I’m not too mad about it. I liked the instant attraction but them letting their feelings build up, even if briar confused us 99% of the time.
The diet spice was perfect and I’m always happy to read a book that may have some make out scenes but closed door spice. It’s really refreshing. -mini spoiler-
Also the ending!!! Last line matching the first line made me so happy. That was a really cool detail
R.L. Atkinson’s quickly becoming one of my favorite authors and I can’t wait to see what she writes next
I loved this book! Cassidy and Briar’s story was so well written. Briar’s confusion of her feelings was relatable and I hope we all can find a man as patient as Cassidy was when she was figuring them out. He never pushed her but just quietly showed her that he was there for her. Briar is a strong, quick-witted FMC who wants the best for herself but also for Cassidy. She pushed him from the beginning to go after his dreams and he pushed her right back.
5/5. I had no issues with this book at all. The relationship was well thought out, the drama kept me on my toes, and the happily ever after was *chef’s kiss* Nothing like a good cowboy romance to end my weekend
First thing, I know this is the 3rd book in the series but is totally enjoyable as a standalone but as always when I love a story I need to go back and read the books before 😅 This is a cute, full of sass from both main character, there are a few sad moments but that as part of life even in books. I absolutely enjoyed Cassidy and Briar story, it was fun, sweet, tender, sassy as hell 🤣 not spicy like most of the stories I read/listen but it really didn't need that part for ne to really enjoy the story. I do highly recommend For Her and I hope one day we get to have this series on audio that would be fantastic.
There is something about how R.L. writes that makes me feel all warm and cozy. For Her is my first cowboy romance and will definitely not be my last, especially her work.
There is purpose in her writing. It's obvious she pays attention to her wording and the fluidity of her story, which is top-notch. I couldn't put it down once I picked it up.
The connection between the characters is so heavily felt throughout the book. The emotions and relationships are strong enough that you bond with them and want to see them pull through.
Thank you for writing this and for introducing me to another trope to bury myself in. 😍
Received as an ARC in return for my honest review.
🐎 Small town 🐎 Reformed playboy MMC x Sassy as anything FMC 🐎 Romantic suspense
Now I’m a smut reader through and through and this one was very much closed door. So in theory my brain told me I wouldn’t like it but that is very much not the case. I was instantly drawn to Cassidy and Briar as characters and found myself desperate to skip ahead and find out if they got their much deserved HEA. Thankfully I had some self restraint and worked my way through the pages like a normal human being, it was completely worth it.
Amazing, just amazing. 👏🏻 The angst was soooo good. Poor Cassidy was so confused bless his heart, but to be fair, Blair wasn't making it easy for him. The banter between Cassidy and Blair was top notch, simply spectacular. This book was sooo satisfying watching everything come together. I've read a handful of books by this author and they've all been absolutely amazing. I already can't wait for the next read
I received this book as an arc member. I give my thoughts of own free will. Briar and Cassidy was amazing . Briar lost everything and tried to save a horse bringing it to the duke ranch where Cassidy lives from suggestion from her friend and his . Briar was trying to not get close protect herself after everything she went through. This book made me want to cry at moments and cheer at others . Such a page turner way better than 5 stars. Will love it I sure did .
Sassy FMC shows up out of no where and previous playboy MMC immediately decides to take a chance on her and help her out. She’s running but he doesn’t know what from. By the time he figures out the whole story there is no turning back he is all in and head over heels.
Favorite quote “There was no before her, and there was no without her. There was only here right now with her, and a future with her.”
I did receive ARC for this book but all thoughts are my own and honest.
I truly adore this authors writing - this is the second of hers that I read and if lived up to all expectations. I haven’t read a ton of western romances but I was obsessed with this one - Cass really had me swooning. I loved the slow burn of the romance and how deeply the main characters seemed to fall for each other and the epilogue drove that home. Overall a really good plot, amazing characters and a beautiful romance. I look forward to more from this author.
A great conclusion to the Duke Ranch series, such great dynamics between Cassidy and Briar, after reading the first two in the series I knew it was going to have to be another smart and sassy character to go toe to toe with Cassidy Duke and stand on her own against him. Great new characters as well as appearances of some of my favorites from earlier books in the series. Elements of suspense that keep you wondering what is going to happen next.
Not my favorite. The mom thing was really weird and not needed. I could have read about them in rehab rather than that whole dramatic event in the hospital. I felt it was a little immature when he said “my girl”. Although she had never dated anyone before so maybe that’s why? Idk I flew through the last 50 pages just so I could finish the book.

Where do I begin? This book was amazing!! I loved it so much! It pulled me in from the beginning and kept me on my toes the whole time! I loved Cassidy and Briars story so much! So beautifully written! Well done once again!! ❤️❤️❤️
Perfect finish to the Duke Family series by RL Atkinson.
From the first time you meet Cassidy in For Him, I fell in love with his golden retriever who was a reformed playboy behavior. Plus adding in a strong willed FMC for him to fall head over boots for was just the perfect little bonus.
I love the dynamic of these two, Briar is sassy and reserved to opening up to Cassidy. It was a great story of love and them getting past the obstacles she has built up around her heart. The constant unknown of what was going to happen next I couldn't put it down.
Arc Review! Loved the story. I didn’t read the other two before this one to know everything but I felt like I didn’t have to! Love Cassidy and Briar and their banter back and forth. Reminds me of my husband and I. Just love their story line and that they finally let themselves be happy!
This high quality, well written book is another flawless tale loaded with all the human emotions. The attention to detail really brings the story to life.
If you enjoy Cowboy Romances then look no further. This book is your next read. I found the book well written n and an all around enjoyable read. This is a voluntary and honest review.
