Prince Rafe leans over me, holding himself up on one elbow as he gazes at my face. I feel his eyes wandering over every surface from my brow to my eyes, down my nose, to my lips and chin, and then returning to hold my gaze for a second. The small smile at the corner of his mouth makes me think he likes what he sees.
His hand is cool when it brushes a loose curl from my cheek, but I don’t jerk away from him. I have no idea what’s going on. I don’t understand why I’m here. I don’t know what will happen tomorrow. It seems like a lot of powerful people want me—dead or alive. And yet, all I can think about right now is how badly I want this vampire’s hands on my body.
***
I live in a desolate village on the edge of the Vampire King’s lands. This used to be wolf shifter territory, but now, we are just trying to survive.
When I mess up and find myself in a culling, I know I’m dead. No wolf shifters ever survive these events.
And after the stunt I pulled in the middle of the village, Prince Rafe probably wants me dead.
Is it a good thing or a bad thing when a vampire looks at you like you’re a snack?
Something tells me, once I reach the castle, I’ll be missing my miserable existence in the village.
But then—it turns out I have no freaking idea who I even am, and when the royals start referring to me as Princess Ainslee, I realize my life is about to take a turn—for better or worse.
This book ends on a cliffhanger. You will need to read Books 2 and 3 to finish Ainslee and Rafe's tale.(But it's so good, you'll want to keep reading!)

read it because of a quote I saw on instagram and the quote isn’t even in the first book of the series, such a shame. + it’s written like a trashy wattpad story and has some typos, but it’s kind of addictive, like some trash tv you watch to pass time with

I wanted to fall into this world, but instead, I felt like I was watching it from behind glass.
The premise intrigued me—dystopian trials, danger, potential romance—but the execution never quite pulled me in. The pacing felt uneven, and the character development never hit that emotional note I crave. I kept waiting for a twist, a spark, something that would tether me to the story. But by the halfway point, I realized I was pushing through more out of duty than desire.
There’s potential here, and I can see how it might appeal to fans of lighter dystopian YA with high-stakes premises and straightforward worldbuilding. But for me, it lacked the emotional complexity, seductive tension, or deep internal conflict I usually look for in this genre.
Not for me—but maybe for someone else.

I like the premise of the Culling being a form of paranormal hunger games however, some of the story seemed rushed.
I knew from the first scene outside the bakery that Ainslee had to be something more than an average wolf and this was made clear when the Culling took place.
I know it was foreshadowed that the King needed a new wife. But the ending just slightly creeped me out. Perhaps reading the others in the series will have the happy ending I was looking for.

Honestly, I wanted more. I stumbled upon this series on BookTok and was so excited to dive into some vampire and werewolf lore. But it was lacking for me. The writing was fine, but it lacked environment. I wanted more than a two dimensional story. Ainslee and Rafe have the potential, but there’s something missing from the story. I can’t quite put my finger on it.

Great book

I wasn't sure if I'd like the book but once I started reading I had to finish it. I enjoyed the characters and how we were given enough info to know the important ones and even the supporting characters. I'm going to continue with the series.

I started this book because I read a quote on Facebook that’s not even coming from this book. I finished it anyways and I’m not super impressed it’s a wattpad book basically as someone else also notes in the comments 🤷‍♀️
