If you’re going to fight a space war, you have to have spaceships.
Charlie has a headquarters, a purpose, and an army…everything you need to build a resistance.
Except warships.
The Anguilar have plenty, but they also know the resistance will be coming after them, and they’ve set a hardened killer to hunt down Charlie.
The deadly bounty hunter Seraph Nix is on the hunt as the crew of the Revenant travels across the galaxy searching for a legendary lost cache of Kamerian starfighters from the last war.
Braving the deadly wilds of a long forgotten world, the only question is, will the mutant aliens get to them first…or will Seraph Nix?
Great series. Love the characters and the humor in their dialogue. Love their camaraderie. The action scenes are great! This author is not an author who will write “he said” or use many indicators like that. So it’s a little different than most and I think the author could be a little more careful to place action to the characters when they’re saying something versus leaving it to our imaginations. It’s not bad just different. This is a series you’ll enjoy very much & there’s always new adventures, intrigue, action and characters.
To the author(s): I would make a suggestion to the author(s) and that’s to place a glossary or a summary at the front of the book, one that a digital download would open to the the first page of this portion instead of to Chapter One. There are a lot of different characters, all different aliens, different stories that brought them together, and what’s happened since then. It can be very confusing for the reader, especially for a new reader and for those of us who began at the beginning and know the story, we still have lots of time between book releases and we’re reading other stories/series in that time frame so we forget or have a hard time recalling who’s who, what they look like, the type of alien they are, and their story up to this book. I think a list of characters by name with each of their information listed is the way in which it would be most helpful and you’d only need to do it once, carrying it from book to book, and simply update each book for those characters that need it and of course, adding any new characters, like the next book would have all the regular characters, including Brazzo but then you’d add Dani and Constantine to the list. If a reader isn’t interested in this part then they simply skip it and move to Chapter One to begin reading, however, they at least know the information is there for them for a quick reference when needed. There’s really no downside to doing it. (Other than more work for the author(s). Sorry about that.🤷🏻♀️😉
The last couple of books were predictable and borrowed high level storylines from obvious places, not least Star Wars and the Death Star This one was a tad more unique. Still a few similarities to other books out there, but unique enough to not be totally predictable The characters have developed nicely, some main characters die, new ones added and that makes for a pleasant change, as so many authors refuse to kill off primary characters Will be interesting to see how book 5 goes. They now have a major enhancement to their fleet, but they still have to take the fight to the Angulair(sp?). The other factor to take into consideration is the bounty hunter, she doesn't give up and by now must really hate Charlie
J.N. Chaney and Rick Partlow's book titled "Legacy of Empire," the fourth book in TAKEN TO THE STARS series, is a great science fiction, action-packed, the good guys vs the bad guys books for all ages who enjoy a well written book who's characters are thoroughly defined that you will find yourself as you are reading along as if you were there. You'll also find yourself routing for Charlie, Laranna, Val, and the Resistance, with the addition of a few new characters on Charlie's team, as they battle the Anguilar and their hired guns to bring freedom to worlds and species across the galaxy with chance to no longer live under a reign of terror. I have really enjoyed this book as well as this series and hope you will enjoy it as well.
This series hasn’t actually been one of my favorites. It’s kind of strange with a weird group of characters, mostly aliens. Charlie Travers is the main character although he didn’t choose that role. He’s also now the de-facto leader of the resistance group acting as “General” although he barely finished college ROTC and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Reserves back on Earth.
As you should know by now, Charlie isn’t on Earth any more. He and a number of others, including several strange aliens, were captured by a “zoo” ship built by the Kamerians. The Kamerians was a race that lost the first Galactic War with the Anguilar coming in and taking up their absence. The Anguilar aren’t much better than the Kamerians, but since the war just about devastated every other civilization, there was and is no one to stand up to them. Except for Charlie Travers and his diverse group of resistance fighters.
It wasn’t too long ago that the Anguilar built a dooms-day weapon that actually destroyed the Peboktan home world. The resistance has five Liberator-class starships or former “zoo” ships that have been outfitted with various weapons and they can hold their own against Anguilar warships, but not if they encounter a fleet. The resistance also has troops gathered from various civilizationas against the Anguilar, but no real way to transport and protect those troops if they were to attempt to conquer an Anguilar stronghold. What they need are more starships/warships.
They had thought to capture some Anguilar cruisers that were in dry-dock just being finished. They had received intelligence about several such ships that seemed to be ready for the taking if they could stealthly board the docks and crew these cruisers. Everything was going well until it wasn’t. They found that what was supposed to be easy pickin’s turne out to be a huge trap! Someone with the resistance was tipping off the Anguilar about their plans and most of them that escaped were lucky to do so.
Now back on Sanctuary, they had to regroup and come up with more plans on how to win this war with the Anguilar if it could be won. One of the ideas floated around was to go seek the Fillians who was a race of people out far beyond the normal boundaries of the known galaxy. They were at the end of a hyperspatial-tunnel with only one entrance and one exit. Their end was said to be heavily mined and guarded with extraordinary warships the Fillians built by the thousands. Surely they could afford to loan this resistance group some if the proper introductions were made.
So, Charlie and his group of closest friends boarded the *Liberator* and started the long, long trip out to Fillios. What they meet there is just what they expected, but it’s not the answer to the problems they have back in the Anguilar empire. Still, they get some very vital information that will take them even further from Sanctuary and might not pay off in the long run. It might also get them all killed. Charlie Travers finds out that a certain Kamerian Bounty Hunter, name Seraph Nix, has his bounty and she always gets her man! As if Charlie didn’t have enough troubles already!
I’m going to continue with this series since this book has made it much more exciting than the previous books. I also think there’s going to be some involvment around Earth, but I’m not sure Earth is ready for an invasion. I don’t think Charlies resistance fighters can save Earth, but maybe they can do better than expected. Book 5, “Vanguard Wing”, is now available on Amazon.
Another outstanding book from J.N. Chaney! This installment in the series was as fast paced as usual, and the character interplay was phenomenal. Chaney creates dynamic characters which we can easily envision and empathize with. The good guys (and girls) are heroic, whether they want to be or not, and the bad guys (and girls) are despicable - with understandable motives.
This book had some surprising plot twists, which I found VERY interesting. The cliff hanger at the end had me slobbering to start the next book. Finding out I had to wait until next week for the it to be published was like a slap in the forehead.
I'm amazed that this author can write so many fantastic novels, I hope that he never stops writing. His books are some of the best Entertainment I have read and worth the time to read them. Thank you for a very fun entertaining read.
The fourth book in this series and STILL a very interesting and engrossing story! You will enjoy the tongue in cheek humor found in numerous locations of the story. Action comes often and well developed. Not a story that takes majority of the pages explaining the technology and thereby being boring...NOT THIS SERIES!!!!!
Charlie and company are on a quest to retrieve a secret stash of old world technological space fighters before the conquering Auguilar Empire and their highly advanced bounty hunter finds and eliminates them and finding the advanced los world spacecraft fighters themselves. One motley group against an empire. How difficult could that be?
Once again no newish or original ideas but well written
If you liked the climatic scenes in Indiana Jones and the last crusade you'll have a deja vu moment but there are several in the book. The Authors again use tried and true plot devices and twists and turns them into interesting conclusions that are more original and/or at least dynamic!
The continuing story seems to be improving. But there are still plenty of unanswered questions. Proof reading could still be improved. Mr. Chaney seems to have lots of irons in the fire right now. Hope he can keep up the quality and quantity, and I'll keep reading.
Great fourth installment! Grand adventure in the pursuit of treasure, in the form of high tech star fighters. The rebellion needs to score some serious firepower, and this may be their only chance. Loved it. 5 can’t come fast enough.
How can life be so exciting. Charlie needs to change his life and find new ways to win this war. He is a great hero with love for his team. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
This book answers many questions but it also opens up 800 more you're gonna love reading this 1 and trying to figure out the answers for yourself enjoy I did
Absolutely brilliant sci-fi fiction. Great characters with realistic situations and lots of action. Aliens , war and tyranny. I look forward to the next one.
It is a good, fun space adventure. The type of simple but enjoyable story that could work nicely as a TV-show script.
The characters are likable. The book has the usual enjoyable dialog, camaraderie and a continuing adventure with suspense, action and twists.
There are some likeness to stories like Star Wars etc. but it is not a copy paste job and there are enough differences to make it a story that holds its own.
It is not a masterpiece but it is certainly a good enough book to enjoy in front of the TV or when waiting somewhere.
