He was a North Carolinian afraid of adventures. He ended up on an epic journey, trying to solve a mystery.
Michael’s girlfriend has disappeared without a trace. One day, she was talking his ears off; a few days later, no one has heard from her.
Was there a criminal act behind it? Or was she just tired of her life and left? The questions quickly become irrelevant as Michael discovers how silent—and delightful—things are without his babbling partner around.
But gradually, the silence becomes suffocating, and Michael realizes he has a responsibility to investigate things further. He must face his worst fear: venturing out into the world and talking to other people, a journey that takes him from the peaceful Cary to one of the most frantic places in the country.
Thanks for joining my corner of Goodreads. Many of you are new to the Coolman Series, so let me shed some light on the project.
The Coolman Series is all about going on a comical journey, where gonzo, exaggeration, and inside jokes are the norm. The more you read, the more you’ll get the references.
I wanted to provide some easy entertainment that re-ignites that childish side we all have. My goal was also to provide something that traditional publishers can’t give.
Humor is already a narrow genre. Silly action humor for B movie lovers . . . yeah, you’ve guessed it. It’s like finding the needle in the haystack.
But hey, you made it here! And I hope to make it worth your while 🏆
Under the guise of an otherwise off-kilter humor, lies a prose that is a treasure trove, chocked full of immensely intelligent satire that keeps you turning the page, one appreciative slow-clap after the other. At the heart of this story is a mystery that needs solving, which is enough to keep your interest piqued, especially when it’s propelled by the raw evidence of Sam’s language and literary degrees deftly on display, one paragraph at a time. This is escapism at its finest.
The major themes in the book were connection and community in my opinion. The mystery started to come out in the small town where trust and relationships were key in solving the case. The story talked about points of curiosity and being persistent as well. It showed hoe determined the hero of the book was to get to the bottom of the mystery and unfolded truths that were coming out. I think these themes are important because they make the mystery draw the reader in more and it puts meaning behind it as well. It had the readers pay attention to the setting more and the characters in the book. There was not any violence in the book for it to be such an interesting mystery book which stood out to me because the author still got his point across without including violence. I feel like this book is a nice way to bring small town mysteries back in the fold, they are always interesting.
Two literary devices used were foreshadowing and imagery, the foreshadowing was shown with the little hints through the book that built the curiosity and had us wondering what's next. It did not reveal too much too soon but it still had the readers on edge (me). I saw the imagery in the book with the description of the ocean, the town and the tension built up that came with figuring out the mystery. It helped me try and picture what was actually going on.
Funny story with a mystery. The main character Micheal complains about his girlfriend Katherine because she takes to much and wishes she would leave. Then one day out of the blue, she does just that. So he decides to go find her fearing that something criminal most have happened. Mind you, Micheal is an odd fellow, and quirky. Which is my favorite kind of protagonist in these stories. He and his friends go looking for Katherine. It was entertaining til the end.
