Lana is a frail farm girl who never could have imagined being magically fated to become a fey host for the sword spirit, Valor. Keegan, a fearless fey guardian of the waters, who must find the magical sword for his king, never expects to meet his match in the small, spirited beauty he needs to guide him to the sword.
A gifted storyteller, R. Garland Gray beckons readers into her unique worlds, weaving passionate, compelling tales that entertain and escape the ordinary.
Born and raised in a closely-knit family in the Bronx, she went on to study literature and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Literature and Communications. She lives with her husband in a small country home and enjoys the simple things, like visiting with friends and family, morning walks in a meadow, and riding on the back of her husband's motorcycle.
Reread it. Cover still bemuses me (and is why I bought it in the first place - WHAT could possibly have earned this poor book such a ridiculous cover)
highlights - H waking to discover h drooling in his navel.
H is... fey born. He prefers to live amongst mortals because... we have emotions and things. And then there's Alana - the h. He's attracted to her. He follows the advice of the ancient druidess to lure her away for a higher purpose, at some point the hand fast is consummated even though she's destined for a higher purpose and supposed to be pure. He loses his wings (which was just as well because I can't take a grown man seriously wearing butterfly wings), and eventually she meanders back to him. Voila' HEA.
I pick this book up for the cover obviously, well that and the fantasy genre. This book didn't wow me with the characters or really the romance( not to mention some of the sexual terms this book used cracked me up). I liked Lana and the druid the best of all the characters, but the rest felt flat for me. The book was also rather long for what it accomplished. I felt like the plot could have been so much better. It lacked excitement and the pacing was slow, plus a lot of events in the story seamed to negate themselves.
Second book in this series is much better than the first. Derina sets up Lana & Keegan for an epic journey to revover a stolen fey sword. Not all is as appears though. A half spriggen with deceit in his soul. And Derina is closer to Keegan than first meets the eye. It was sad Keegan lost his wings, but he gains Lana as a mate.

A beautiful story of fey born and magical tasks that need to be solved. Its truly a love story with a rocky start and a sweet endearing. This is 2nd book of series and it complimented the 1st book I thought
Love the magical elements and insight of this author and have read all the others about the celtic mythology of the fey - only wish more would be written they are so engaging. Mystical and evocative description paints a beautiful picture on the page which springs alive. This one is about Keegan a fey guardian of the waters and Lana a frail weak farm girl who turns out to be the spirited beauty he needs to guide him to the sword. Say no more - one everyone who like mystical, magic and romance should read,
I read this many months ago, a story of love in a version of celtic Ireland with faerie and quests. Lana has a weak heart and an odd birthmark little knowing that this was a sign that she was going to be the host for a fey sword, when Keegan is sent to find the sword he finds himself having to deal with Lana, whom he regards as weak and useless.
It's pretty predictable, readable though. The celtic mythology wasn't too mangled which makes a nice change.
I was emotionally touched by Fey Born, and the author slapped me around more than once. I wished there had been more romance between the characters. I didn't see a great many of the twists coming at me. I admit to being lost a few times, but never bored. Thank you, Ms. Gray, I appreciated the challenge.
One warning. The road to the ending is harsh (the Fae are not nice people), a touch sad, but ultimately satisfying. Four solid stars.
Decent character development, I enjoyed the evil spriggan character, I wasn't fond of the goddess character or the king. Most of the other characters were fine. I liked the story mostly but I was hoping for some different outcomes close to the end.
