Twins are a double blessing. Brindle Cow is having a baby!
All the delightful characters from Eve Bunting’s The Wedding are back to celebrate the happy event, along with some adorable new characters. Don’t miss the exuberant—and numerous—baby rabbits.
Judy Love’s illustrations are packed with humorous details as the group of devoted friends show off their gifts and travel to Brindle Cow’s baby shower. But when the friends arrive to greet the new baby—surprise! surprise!—it’s twins.
Anne Evelyn Bunting, better known as Eve Bunting, is an author with more than 250 books. Her books are diverse in age groups, from picture books to chapter books, and topic, ranging from Thanksgiving to riots in Los Angeles. Eve Bunting has won several awards for her works.
Bunting went to school in Ireland and grew up with storytelling. In Ireland, “There used to be Shanachies… the shanachie was a storyteller who went from house to house telling his tales of ghosts and fairies, of old Irish heroes and battles still to be won. Maybe I’m a bit of a Shanchie myself, telling stories to anyone who will listen.” This storytelling began as an inspiration for Bunting and continues with her work.
In 1958, Bunting moved to the United States with her husband and three children. A few years later, Bunting enrolled in a community college writing course. She felt the desire to write about her heritage. Bunting has taught writing classes at UCLA. She now lives in Pasadena, California.
Found in a Little Free Library. I, personally, did not care for it at all. Illustrations are painterly, reminding me of Michael Hague. Bull is a good daddy. Some animals were clothes, but not all... and usually only tops. Just plain ridiculous on so many counts, so say both I and my inner child.
Eve Bunting was prolific, and some of her books are masterpieces. Some are not.
"Ms. Brindle Cow, all sweetly round, / rested on the grassy ground." Bunting's singsong reminds me of little couplets my aunt could come up with on the spot. They are pitch-perfect, even if some of these shower gifts are grotesque. Illustrations straight out of Mother Goose, a delight for younger children.
Mommy's favorites are books by Eve Bunting. This book is really sweet about all the animals who are excited to bring gifts for a new mama and daddy. The unexpected surprise at the end makes this book even cuter!
We love books that celebrate life, that celebrate children. And this one does.
**Talking points: Why is everyone so excited that a baby will soon be born? How many babies do you want when you grow up? How are babies hard work? How do babies bring joy?
This book is good to teach children about baby showers'. The child was anticipating on the baby shower. I like this book but it would not be my favorite one.
This is a fun rhyming book starting various animals on their way to a baby shower - where they actually end up meeting the babies! It's fun and sweet and beautifully illustrated.
