MORE FICTION IN A NEW IRISH MURDER MYSTERY SERIESA young detective sticks to her guns after a fatal heistThe manager of a building society is found dead in her flat above the premises in the Irish county town of Wexford. DI Vikki Kirkby investigates. Not only has the woman been murdered, the safe has been opened and emptied. The explanation for the crime seems straightforward. But why such a brutal attack? Kirkby follows the money to catch a killer, and events in the small southern Irish town soon hot up. As they do in the Garda station, where Kirkby will lock horns with her superintendent, who seems to have it in for her. Can she prove her worth or will she be forced to go back to Dublin with her tail between her legs? The Empty Safe Mystery is the second standalone novel in The Wexford Homicides series by bestselling Irish author David Pearson.
DI Vikki Kirkby continues to perform well in her native Wexford. There is a good amount of insight required on her part to get to the bottom of a number of crimes, financial at the core. She doesn't always have the support of her "big boss", but that extra tension adds to the satisfaction when she carries it off in the end of investigations with her team's support. There is a touch of romance, but nothing over the top. Normal life in Wexford. I have been lucky enough to have traveled there and enjoyed myself with my brother and his wife.
I enjoy these books because the stories are complex and entertaining. This series is a winner because the plots and characters work well together, and the pacing is great. I hope Mr. Pearson continues with this collection. I have yet to try his other books, but I hope to soon.
Detective Inspector Vikki Kirkby has a demanding boss and a small group of people in her group of officers. However, they work hard and work well together to get the job done.
Wexford Homicides
1. The Ferry Port Mystery (2023) -- VG ** 2. The Empty Safe Mystery (2023)
DI Vikki Kirkby is an interesting character and one that I want to read more about. Interesting book with very good characters, great thing is there aren't to many of them, you don't have to keep looking back to see who is who. I've read a few books where there were way too many characters introduced. The plot is good and you will sail right through the end of the book. You wont be able to put it down
Good story and well written. Introduction and development of the characters was such that you feel you know them. Main character is well developed and her personality diverse. Worth reading and hopefully more capers.
I really enjoyed this book and the first one in the series, The Ferry Port Mystery too. I'm disappointed that there does not seem to be another instalment to follow as not only did both books have great main plots the development of the characters in the subplots had such a lot to offer
