4.5🌟stars This cozy mystery features a whole circus full of murder suspects and a great quartet of amateur (and one retired police) investigators engaged to prove who really killed a temporary circus worker after the police quickly point the blame at a member of the circus owner's family. The corpse's sudden appearance tumbling off the carousel right in front of Jasmine, one of the amateur detectives, starts the story with a major shock and I did not want to put the book down afterwards until the mystery was solved. This was written with so many twists and it was great that each member of the detective team had ample participation in solving the case.
I had suspicions of who was guilty but, ultimately, I was fooled and I really didn't mind. A good read for me because I enjoy seeing these amateurs gain confidence from case to case. I also like that the police are not adversaries of the amateurs; that's not usual in the cozies I've read and I like the novelty; the breakfast detectives can concentrate on getting to the truth instead of wasting time in confrontations with the local constabulary!
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
Death on the Carousel, #3 - Not my favorite, but still interesting. Good characters. Source: The author, an ARC. 4*
Crime About Town, prequel - Interesting bits and bobs about four main characters of the Breakfast Club Detectives created five years after the prequel ends. Not necessary to read first. Source: The author's website. 4*
Death in the Long Walk, #1 - Suprising better than I expected. Interesting with a steady pace, good story lines and a variety of likeable characters. The group did a good job working together and getting other things taken care of while 'sleuthing'. Source: The author, an ARC. 4*
Death in the River, #2 - Another good story with a steady pace, good characters and story lines. A good series so far. Source: The author, an ARC. 4*
The Breakfast Club Detectives are on the case again! What looks to be a 'simple' murder suddenly becomes very complex, with all sorts of red herrings and what-ifs.
The story is plotted well and moves along at a good clip. I was correct as to why the murder occurred, but not who the murderer was - so nicely done, Ms. Pugh. This series is entertaining and the characters keep growing in both skills and personhood.
A lot of subterfuge here and you will love every minute of it. An interesting story line going on and I liked the way it developed. Amazing characters. I would like to give it 4 1/2 stars. Recommended.
This was my introduction to The Breakfast Club Detectives and I really enjoyed it. What makes it most interesting to me is that it includes a retired police detective. It was an intriguing investigation with a surprise ending.
A new-to-me author and an interesting blurb which led me to give this series a chance, even though it is book 3. Works well as a standalone, as you do catch up with the characters as the story progresses.
I do like to members of the breakfast club - each and every one of them have their quirks and yet they work well together. The mystery is solid and intriguing and well written. Great plot, a nice surprising reveal - all good stuff.
