Amarah Calderini grew up in the Rocky Mountains, and spent her time imagining magic living in the shadows of the peaks. She writes fantasy imbued with equal parts magic, angst, and steam, featuring strong yet flawed heroines and the fierce-hearted men who love them. When not writing, she can be found soaking up the sun and singing along to the same dramatic songs she’s listened to since high school. She currently lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado with her husband, two children, and their geriatric German Shepherd.
This is the third (and final 😢) book in the completed Dark World trilogy, a dark dystopian fantasy series. Tropes include mental health and trauma/healing rep, found family, powerful FMC, touch her and die, morally gray MMC and soul mates. The Lovely: I went into this final book of the trilogy with *no* idea of how the author was going to wrap everything up by the end. Looking back, a lot happened in this book alone but it never felt rushed or hurried. As with books one and two, there were some gut wrenching moments. The characters, both main and side, have already had to sacrifice so much it brought forth the question - how much loss can one person endure? And how do you come back from that much loss? I loved that we got to explore these concepts in the context of those characters.
Rating: 5/5 Stars 2/5 Flames
Recommendation: This series is complete and I’m sad to leave this world the author created, and the characters. I feel like Miranda and Anrai will stay with me for a long time. The authr’s storytelling and writing style throughout the whole series was beautiful and powerful. This series has put the author in my auto-read list and I’m looking forward to what she writes next. Until then, I’m sure I’ll be returning to these books for comfort reads.
I don't have the words for a good enough written review of how this book moved my heart. I cried finishing this series. It's the heart of these characters. I need more books like this. The heart and soul that is written into this book moved me so much. I definitely ended 2023 with a book hangover from this, and I love it. Best feeling ever. The series is available on Kindle Unlimited.
My only gripe was that I wanted more Mirren and Shaw moments, but the ones we got were perfection. Although I also understand why the two of them aren't the main focus here. There is so much going on in this world to be tied off and so many wonderful characters. I couldn't get enough of any of them! The way Amarah writes her characters really puts you in their mindset and makes you feel all the feelings for them.
So much action, so much magic, so much reflecting on one's character and soul. This series is just wonderful.
There was some stuff left open ended and I have hopes that the author is going to write a spinoff for the other characters and stories.
Read if you love: -Dystopian world -Elemental magic -Banter -Mental health rep
Ah this book was so good!!! Such a fantastic end to a unique and raw series!
In the aftermath of defeating the Praeceptor & Mirren saving Anrai’s soul, the main characters are all in Similis starting to rebuild & fortify the city against the Covinus. The peace doesn’t last long and soon the characters are thrown into battle, separated and one kidnapped. They must fight their way back to each other for the final stand at Nadjaa in hopes of finally defeating the Covinus and fulfilling the Dead Prophecy.
I can only describe this book as passionate. The love between all the characters is so beautifully written, your heart will hurt equally in scenes of loyalty between Cal & Max as it will in the reverence between Anrai & Mirren. (There’s even a “who did this to you” moment between friends that you didn’t know you needed until this book). There are more chapters from Cal’s POV in this book & I absolutely love seeing not only just his funny & charismatic personality but all the emotions he goes through when faced with the feelings he has for Harlan, the weight of Akari’s fate and the fear he has for his found family’s lives. Mirren in this book - wow, gone is the timid, unsure girl & in her place is a resilient, raw and powerful woman. Her coping with her trauma and grief is so well written and honest with its messiness. The way that her and Anrai lean on each other throughout the book and find strength in each other makes them one of my absolute favorite book couples. And little Helias 🥺 I love all the characters in this book, they are all so well written and am so sad to let them go. The ending of this book was so perfect and bittersweet.
This romantasy book has soul-bonded lovers, will burn the world for each other, epic battles, found family, redemption, elemental magic, gods & prophecies. Also some of the most passionate spice I have read - like so tied to the raw emotions of the characters my jaw dropped. Cannot recommend this book & the entire series enough!!!
This was a series I knew I was going to love, but had been waiting to read it until the series was complete. Then I was accepted into the ARC team for Wave Of Light, and have been devouring these books.
Mirren and Shaw are the main characters of this dual POV written series. Amarah does an AMAZING job of really amplifying their personalities and thoughts of these characters, and I love how beautifully written it all is. She's not shy about their struggles, mentally and emotionally, and writes it all in such a real and raw way that I'm pretty sure when my heartstrings are getting pulled it's her hand literally in my chest pulling them.
The romance and spice are both chef's kiss. I HAVE LOVED ALL OF IT!!!
In Wave Of Light, we pick up right where Flame Of Shadow left off - we're off to fulfill the Dark Prophecy. Once again, all the raw emotions of this book have flayed my heart wide open. There have been points where I've laughed out loud, and cried my eyes out.
You'll get: Dark Fantasy Touch Her & Die 'Good girl' Loss/Trauma/Healing Elemental Magic Found Family Morally Gray Characters and an EPIC Conclusion
The conclusion of Dark World trilogy might have broken me when I read it. The final book in the series is a dark, twisted turn that will have you sitting with a pit in your stomach as Amarah weaves a path of emotional destruction in this book. Yes, I said it. This one will twist your gut (in both good and sad ways).
Amarah's final book delivers some of the best character development and plot progression and I ate it up. Mirren and Anrai as well as some of my other favorite characters Calloway, Harlan, and others! There was one character whose story broke me a little bit more than the others because of what he choose to sacrfice to save them. Amarah does a beautiful job of drawing out those emotional scenes to really make them hurt as you read them.
As expected this story delivers us the final battle that has been building over the course of this series and it delivers. The action, the emotion, and the magic all build as the characters deal with not only the battle itself -- the change, the loss, and the unknown future.
Overall a truly beautiful series that I count among my favorites.
What a finale! I already knew to expect action, humor, and a heap of emotion from this book based on the first two in the trilogy, but was still somehow blown away by Calderini's portrayal of grief, trauma, and inner strength. Each character deals with emotions differently, and each feels so real, parts of each relatable. Every single one of the main cast holds a special place in my heart.
Deeper emotions aside (even though I am WRECKED in all the best ways), the story itself was gripping to the last page. The plot continues from the first two books, culminating in the final battle for Ferusa, and the action on these pages was just *chef's kiss* SO GOOD. On top of that, we still have all of the sarcasm and quips--even in the face of danger and death--and the unbreakable bonds of found family. I'll always be a sucker for soul things, and this book gave everything I needed and more. This world, these characters, and the sentiments in these pages will forever be a favorite.
I need to ask Amarah something. Who hurt you?! While the ending to this amazing trilogy was everything I hoped for and more, it was brutal. I don't think I have cried this much in a book since Ichor lol. There is beauty in pain and light in the darkness and that really showed through in the conclusion of the Dark World Trilogy. Each character had to overcome difficult challenges and loss throughout the books. And while all these things would have broken any normal person the cast of characters in this book never faltered because they had each other. They fought for each other, HARD. Amarah did such a good job of connecting you not only with the characters but the world. I can't believe this book isn't everywhere because it is so damn good. If you are looking for your next finished series this needs to be on your TBR. Or read it now! LOL
A big thank you to Amarah Calderini for an ARC copy of this book.
I stumbled across this series a while back and I was hooked from the beginning. I can’t wait for it to get the hype it deserves! The series is so well written and consistent throughout. All the characters have my heart, and this was an amazing ending to the series for them.
Wave of Light picks up right where we left off in Flame of Shadow. The gang sets out to fulfill the Dark Prophecy. I laughed, I cried, I blushed. Amarah has had a way with portraying real, raw human emotion in the past books and that didn’t stop here.
I’m a bit speechless, so I’ll update with more after I’ve had time to process.
Overall I have to probably list this series in my top 10 it was so good. I'd probably put it at a 2ish on the spice level because spice is used sparingly, but I found I didn't even care because the characters and the story itself was just *that good*. I laughed and cried in this book and even found that I was dragging out finishing it because I didn't want to say goodbye to the family. If you like reading about worlds where the power hungry end up powerless and where the family is almost all found not born, this is a very good series to read.
The final book in the Dark World Trilogy brought the series to an epic conclusion! The ending of this trilogy was wrapped up so perfectly. I found so much healing and comfort in this book. The mental health rep throughout was handled so beautifully. The character arc's were brilliant not just for the main characters but for all of the characters. Wave of Light and the other books in The Dark World Trilogy are must reads and the series will now forever be a comfort read for me.
Damn! Definitely a good series! ♥️ For once I did not hate the side characters POVs as they were integral parts of the story instead of being some random side quests. The found family in this was pretty cute. I’m disappointed that there is no epilogue after sooooooooo much that happened otherwise this’ll be a 5 star!
I really wanted to like this series because the overall storyline and originality of it was great. But unfortunately there were far too many continuity issues with the plot, characters, and lore.
what a nice gem of a series this is 💞 I can’t believe these are the only books by this author cause I’d trust anything else she writes to be equally amazing
Such a perfect and beautiful ending to an incredible series. I'm truly sad it's over! Amarah Calderini is an auto buy author for me now, i'm just obsessed with her writing.
4.75 stars. Good ending to this trilogy. All three books were thoroughly entertaining. The world building was great. Loved the relationships and found family vibes. This was a solid read 👏
That really did it for me team. Even when it got repetitive or too happily-ever-aftery, I still cried. Pretty incredible writing with pretty incredible characters. 4.5 stars.
This series finale had me in a chokehold. I adored this series since picking up book one and this fabulous conclusion didn’t disappoint. It was an action-packed emotional rollercoaster of a read. I cried multiple times. The badass elemental magic really ramps up. As always the characters are painfully relatable and the banter is *chef’s kiss*. I’m so very sad to see this world and characters end but I can’t wait to see what Amarah does next.
