The time I picked up an NBA superstar while looking like a swamp thing in a hair salon…

And if you know me, this is one hundred percent on-brand for Becca Montgomery.

You see, I’m starting a new job on Monday at a sports TV network, and I was treating myself to a way too expensive cut at one of Miami’s chicest hair salons in preparation when he walked in.

By he, I mean, a tall, inked, European, and breathtakingly hot NBA superstar named Antoni Nowak.

And Antoni happens to be interested in me—despite seeing me in that awful salon lighting, with wet hair, and draped in a smock.

Me. I refuse to believe him at first. I’m not a model. I babble. I’m neurotic. The cherry on my unusual sundae is I’m a hypochondriac, too.

Antoni isn’t deterred. Rather, he’s even more intrigued when I fly my weird flag at full staff.

But when I go viral due to a most humiliating situation, I wonder how long it will be until Antoni realizes this is who I truly am and the novelty of dating me wears off. I’ve already fallen for this basketball star, for the man he is outside of dribbling a ball. And the idea of him dumping me breaks my heart.

Add in a coworker who feels I'm not just unworthy of a man like Antoni, but also an embarrassment to the network, and I suddenly find myself not only questioning my relationship, but my career, too.

If this were a game of basketball, I’m about to make a pressured shot from the three-point line to win the game. Will it be an air ball? Or will I find confidence in myself to sink the winning shot and keep not only Antoni but my job by the final buzzer?

This was an adorable story. I liked the meet cute and how their story developed. Becca is a loveable and relatable character and Antoni is just perfect. I liked their characters and their development throughout the story. I liked how they understood what insecurities do to a relationship and worked towards them.
It started a bit slow but eventually started getting interesting and I enjoyed it so much. I was happy that there was no miscommunication in it and the story had a natural flow. Loved the side characters as well, they were fun to read. It's a light read and I picked it up at the right time, I recommend it if you're in the mood for a light and cute romance book. And it's safe to say that I love sports romances now, they are so fun to read. ❤️

Miami Hoops by Aven Ellis is a fun, contemporary sports romance about Becca Montgomery, a quirky, delightfully self‑aware intern at a sports TV network, and Antoni Nowak, a breathtakingly handsome NBA superstar who finds himself unexpectedly smitten with her after a memorable and slightly humiliating meet‑cute in a Miami hair salon. Becca is trying to prove herself in her new career, and Antoni’s genuine interest encourages her to see her own worth even when self‑doubt, viral moments, and workplace judgments cloud her confidence. Their connection teaches both of them about vulnerability, authenticity, and what it means to truly see someone for who they are.

Right from the quirky salon opening, this story felt like stepping into a warm, laugh‑filled escape where characters are real, messy, and lovable. Becca’s neurotic charm, especially her hypochondriac tendencies and self‑effacing humor, made her feel like a friend I already knew and wanted to cheer on, while Antoni’s steady kindness made my heart soften in the best possible way.

Their chemistry is a delightful mix of swoon and laughter, and seeing Becca balance her blossoming relationship with career pressures added depth to what could have been just a surface‑level rom‑com. I found myself smiling at the little moments, like navigating Miami’s vibrant backdrop with these two, and appreciating how their vulnerabilities are not brushed aside but embraced as part of their growth together.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. I’m giving Miami Hoops this rating because it is a genuinely sweet read that made me laugh and feel invested in the characters’ journeys.

I loved Miami Hoops. It’s one of my favorites of Aven’s recent books. Becca has a lot of quirk and when she meets basketball superstar, Antoni, she can’t believe he would fall for her. Sometimes instalove can be cringey to read, but their relationship seemed so authentic. I didn’t really like how Becca was a bit judgmental of her coworkers who were a little too extra. It seemed a little mean and unnecessary considering her big problem at work was her coworkers judging her. Also, her grandma just honestly made me incredibly uncomfortable. I didn’t find her funny or charming. Overall, a really great story and I can’t wait to read more in the Miami series!!!

This was a very cliche sports romance. A hot basketball player immediately falls for a regular 22 year old woman. The woman is a virgin. She even has a token grandmother who says inappropriate things.

I struggled with the lack of depth to their romance. The MMC was immediately smitten with the FMC, but why? She was one dimensional and didn’t have much to offer IMO. I got tired of her thinking he was out of her league and her lack of confidence.

I received a complimentary audiobook from libro.fm.

This is one of the only books I've read where the couple gets together in the beginning of the book & stays together throughout the entire book, which was weird but also refreshing. No miscommunication, which I enjoyed.

At times, it seemed like the FMC was quirky just to be quirky and not because she actually WAS quirky. The writing also seemed a bit too Wattpad-y at times, especially in the last half of the book.

Becca and Antoni’s first meeting at a salon was highly entertaining; it is probably one of my favorite meet cutes that this author has written. From there, you knew that their story was going to be great. Antoni, despite being a basketball star, comes across as very down-to-earth and relatable. Becca’s character, with all her insecurities, was relatable as well, although there were times she does seem to be too hard on herself. They were a fun couple, and it was great to watch Antoni help Becca gain more confidence in herself.

It isn’t all sweet and fun though, as Becca has to deal with some bullying at her new job because of her relationship with Antoni. While I understood that she didn’t want to rock the boat at her new job, she tried to handle that too long on her own and should have brought it to the attention of her boss, especially when she was prevented from doing part of her job.

As with several of this author’s books, there’s a quirky grandparent. This time, it’s Becca’s grandmother. She’s an amusing character, but there were a few times where she’s a bit too over-the-top. Overall, she’s an enjoyable character though.

This is a good start to the series, and I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes. If you’re not a basketball fan, don’t worry! Speaking as someone who can’t stand basketball, you don’t have to be a fan of it to enjoy this book. While there is some basketball in it, the story mainly focuses on Becca and Antoni themselves.

Becca is a hypochondriac who has just been hired to work in advertising at the Total Access Total Sports network. Although she has little experience with sports, she knows that this is a job she can thrive in.

When a chance encounter brings Becca into the path of Antoni, the star Polish basketball player for the Miami Copperheads, she has no idea who is and a beautiful relationship is born.

I started reading Miami Hoops a year ago when Aven introduced it to Patreon. Whenever a new chapter was posted, I rushed over to the site to read and consume the new content as quickly as possible. It's been an absolute joy to be able to be a part of Becca and Antoni's world. These two hold a special place in my heart and I'm so excited that Aven is sharing Miami Hoops with the world.

Becca and Antoni are two of those characters who have natural chemistry. They feel real. Their story will not only take you on a journey that will leave you laughing out loud and rooting for them to succeed every step of the way.

I can't recommend Miami Hoops highly enough. It's such a beautiful story and a breath of fresh air. This Aven Ellis book is a slam dunk and gets a solid 10 out of 10 stars from me.

Don't walk over to get your copy today....run. You won't regret it. It'll rank up there with one of your favorite books of the year.

Aven Ellis has outdone herself with her new book, Miami Hoops. The book begins with a very original “meet cute” and continues on to become a great story. The main characters, Becca and Antoni, are both battling major insecurities and have a hard time believing they are “good enough”. The author does a great job of allowing the reader to understand that insecurity is normal but can also completely sabotage a relationship. Becca has just begun a new job in the sports world and knows nothing about sports while Antoni is a professional basketball player so they originally agree to meet up to discuss sports but quickly realize that they are meant to be much more than friends. Becca has a very hard time accepting that Antoni could be attracted to her due to some “mean girl” experiences in her life….both past and present. While Antoni is a professional basketball player and is considered to be a very eligible man he is also insecure about the demands of his job and placing someone else in the public eye. These insecurities lead to some misunderstandings and bumps on the road to true love. Fortunately for our main characters, Becca’s grandmother has many hilarious and slightly inappropriate suggestions to keep them on track! This book is perfect for a fun, lighthearted read and I highly recommend it!

And she does it again!!
Becca and Antoni get a beautiful story set in Miami as Aven explores another sport - Basketball.
Becca is a beautiful character. She’s surprisingly refreshing and very relatable. Their meet cute is one of the best in an Aven book!
Antoni is a dreamboat. He’s everything a man should be and everything men are not because they’re real and he’s an Aven hero, but one can hope 😀
What is really beautiful about this book is how the author has taken things and character quirks that everyone has. Messy kitchen cupboards for example. We may think quirks like that might actually be a turn off but she takes those and makes a swoon worthy man look at the girl with the quirks and makes her (and us feel) seen. As readers, we look at the world famous basketball player come to her house take in everything and love her. We don’t get imperfect heroines because no one is imperfect. That’s what makes her books special. That’s why we read it again and again. And again.
Waiting for the next one.

Sometimes, I wants a book to be the couple against the world, ya know!? Don’t get me wrong, the grovel after the mess up, still 100% something I love to see but, its a refreshing feeling when you read a book where that isn’t the case & Miami Hoops by Aven Ellis was that for me! Becca was freaking relatable as hell with her hypochondriac neurosis, the way her thoughts just fell out of her mouth, and her self-doubt...it was kind of like looking in a mirror 🙈, you know, minus the whole hot professional basketball player standing behind me and all. Her man, Antoni, was just the perfect depiction of a cinnamon roll hero with his persistent support, his unwavering affection, and unabashed sweetness. Together, these two were the epitome of the couple you just want to “Aww” at!

With a meet-cute in a hair salon that includes a mustache mention (her’s not his...thanks so much, Olga!), Becca Montgomery is sure basketball superstar Antoni Nowak is chatting her up just to pass the time. But, when he leaves his number at the front of the salon, offering up his basketball tips to the newly hired sales team member at Total Access Total Sport Miami, she can’t pass up the opportunity! As they grow closer, Becca comes under the scrutiny of her coworkers and an unfortunate incident makes her a viral sensation; with one hit after another, can she survive this new life with the superstar athlete who has captured her heart?

If you’re looking for an easy to read sports romance with swoon & some mild spice , this new series by Aven is for you! It has an insta-lovey feel but, with two authentically sweet characters it felt more natural and less cheesy that insta-love can be and with no third act break up I knew my heart was safe. Some may find Becca’s grandma a bit much, but I found her inappropriateness hilarious! What can I say, I am a sucker for a sassy Golden Girl character 🤷🏼‍♀️. Overall, I enjoyed the first book in the Miami Sports series.

Author Aven Ellis takes on a new sport in her new Miami Hoops series! She’s written about hockey, baseball, and soccer in the past and now basketball. This series actually started as a serial release on her patreon so that’s pretty cool. Miami Hoops is about Becca, a quirky lovable character who has a chance encounter with a famous basketball player, Antoni, and they end up falling for each other. Becca balances a new relationship with a new job. I liked the new setting of Miami and could feel the city in this book. It was fun to explore a new sport too. Antoni, like most of Aven’s male leads, is a dreamboat. I always always enjoy the unique minor characters Aven sprinkles in her books, in this case the Becca’s grandma who asks if Becca has condoms on her first date 😂 definitely not one to miss if you’re a fan of sports romances. Miami Hoops is out now!

Thank you to Aven for the opportunity to read an ARC of this.

Aven Ellis always creates characters who you want to root for and she did not disappoint with Miami Hoops.

Becca and Antoni have a meet-cute in a hair salon and begin a relationship that melts the heart. Antoni is a professional “baller”, so when he learns that Becca, who just started a new job at Total Access Sports, knows nothing about basketball, he invites her to coffee to teach her some things. Becca and Antoni both have insecurities and through their journey to HEA, they grow and learn that while these insecurities could destroy a relationship, it can also make them grow and become stronger in their relationship.

On the way, the reader gets to meet Becca’s friends and family, including her Grandma who is one of my favorite characters in the whole book! I highly recommend this book!

I recieved an ARC for my honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story of Becca and Antoni. Becca is relatable, but the self-deprecation does get extreme to the point of being unbelievable. However, since the point of view is Becca, first person, we are in her head the entire story. There is definitely personal growth for Becca in that regard throughout the story.

Antoni is the basically the ideal book boyfriend, I have no complaints.

I would have liked to see more character development of side characters other than the quirky grandma. Don't get me wrong, I love Aven's quirky grandparent characters, but the other side characters could've used a bit more love.

Overall, Miami Hoops is another sweet with a splash of spice romcom that we love from Aven. I anticipate more exciting books in this new series!

loved it

I read boos 2 before book 1 In The Miami Sports Series and I love both of them!
Antoni and Becca were so perfect for each other. Any man that sees you at the beauty salon soaking wet hair getting your mustache waxed off during a hair cut. He leaves his number asks your out is the perfect guy for you. I loved the grandma. The people at work were awful but that kind of stuff happens all the time. I never thought about being famous and having people follow me around the grocery store taking photos asking for selfies that would be hard to deal with. Becca had such a wonderful personality and a huge amount of insecurities she didn’t see herself as others saw her. She was so goofy and fun! Antoni feel in love the moment he met her. Buy this book it will make you smile.

Every book of Aven's instantly becomes a favorite... but this book is special. Becca was the most relatable heroine yet. Aven did a phenomenal job of making her someone that I would want to be friends with. She owned her quirkiness. She showed insecurity. She was any one of us who just happens to fall in love with a NBA star. And Antoni.... let's just say I have a newfound interest in Poland :)

I didn't think it was possible, but I may have a new favorite grandma. The bar is set super high for Halloween celebrations now!

I can't recommend this book enough. I can't wait to read more of the Miami series... it's off to a fabulous start with Miami Hoops!

I devoured this book in 2 days and it is a breath of fresh air!

Becca and Antoni are what you'd call a misfit couple- with Becca being an insecure, babbling hypochondriac and Antoni being an introverted basketball sensation. However they have what very few relationships have- the ability to communicate their problems/wants/desires freely and unabashedly!

The book has plenty of absolutely swoon worthy proclamations of love, adorable yet funny interactions, some very superficial spice (just the kind I like) and believable characters. Idk what everyone else says but Becca is insanely relatable- her hypochondria manifesting at all odd times and the need for constant approval (contrary to popular belief, insecure people don't become secure just after getting a supportive boyfriend- they need constant support and validation to be able to undo years of trauma).

There is no excessive drama, no miscommunication which causes the characters to cry and separate- the story is new and refreshing and exactly what is promised in the blurb.

My first, but definitely not the last book by Aven Ellis. Miami Hoops is one of the best reads of my year! ❤️

P.S. Grandma Montgomery ran the show and even though I don't like spice in my books, I will read her spicy adventures any day!

Becca and Antoni’s characters were fun to explore and pretty relatable, despite their very different backgrounds and one being a professional athlete. I didn’t know what I was missing in latte art until Miami Hoops either. If you are in the mood for a great meet cute, some trials and tribulations, primarily driven by insecurities, and eventually a fab HEAT, look no further. While not my favorite Aven Ellis book, I really did enjoy my time in Becca and Antoni’s world and I was definitely left wanting to know more about them both.

Adorable story with a hilarious and unique meet-cute. I was laughing out loud in a doctor’s office without a care in the world. Antoni is 100% a man written by a woman, and those are the best kind🥰 His patience and smoking hot communication skills are such attractive book boyfriend qualities… abs don’t hurt either.
This was a little spicier than my typical read, so if you are a closed door reader, you should stop around page 150. I didn’t expect the heat after reading that far in, but it is a sweet story and the laughs and sighs were worth it.

Miami Hoops by Avin Ellis
Sports romance
Virgin FMC
Cinnamon roll hero
No third act break up

I didn't swoon over these characters, but they were very cute. I got the goofy grin and laugh out loud moments so I'm happy.

This felt vey repetitive and mundane at times. Half the book she's worried that he's going to break up with her. And I really don't need six pages describing her making coffe.

It started off strong, a meet cute, an incredible first date, a cinnamon roll of a man; but it just got boring.

Every book by Aven Ellis is so good, it is always an absolute treat to read them. Miami Hoops is no exception!
Becca has so many quirks that everyone can at least relate with one of them, which makes her a "perfectly imperfect" main character & Antoni? Just wow, he is soo unbelievably kind and amazing. I enjoyed every page of this book to the fullest and would love to see more of these two in upcoming books.

I'll admit, not my favourite Aven book, but it's a sweet story, and the HEA is strong. Becca and Antoni are sweet, and I love that the foreign player is from somewhere unusual, and there is always the great grandma character, but something felt missing....not sure what, but I like the story, and I like how this is leading to a whole Miami set across sports...

I absolutely hate basketball! So to pick up a book about the worst sport ever (and I’ve tried curling!), says a lot. Only Aven could make me fall in love with a basketball player. Antoni and Becca are absolutely perfect! I could hands down read this again and again. (But still never watching basketball!)

SWOON

I loved this book. I have read most of Agents books, and this one was super sweet and the MMC was a swoonfest. All of her books are well written, but I feel like they get better as time goes on. Becca was so neurotic it was sometimes very cringed but I understand that her journey had to be difficult. Great book.

This was the first book I have read by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Becca was such a fun and relatable FMC and I loved the chemistry and banter she had with Antoni. They balanced each other out really well and made for an entertaining and quick read. Would highly recommend if you enjoy sports romance. Thank you so much to Aven Ellis for the opportunity to read this story.

I absolutely LOVED this book! Becca is has all the normal awkward thoughts, she just tends to say them out loud. Except when she does it, it lands her a dreamy, Polish, pro basketball player, and Antoni finds her quirkiness real and endearing.

I got all the feelings reading Miami Hoops. From the swoony ooohs and ahhhs, to laughing out loud, and even second hand embarrassment for Becca, this one packs all the feels. Let me just say, Grandma Montgomery is my new fave, and Antoni and Becca are couples goals. Definitely enjoyed this book and can’t wait for Aven’s next one!
