This is a story of family, but more specifically, it’s a story that centers around Agathe and Emma, two sisters. Once upon a time, they were very close, but as their family slowly fell apart, so did their bond.
Emma is the older of the two sisters, Agathe as the younger sister has always felt somewhat inferior, or perhaps just less understood by everyone in their family, where Emma is protective of Agathe, there is an aura of resentment.
When they need to return to their grandmother’s home, it brings back memories of their childhood, and with those come the memories of their childhood, and the scars that came with it.
There’s a lot of pain that flows through this novel, but there is also a sense of love, even if it is followed by frustration, this is a story of love. Not so much the romantic kind of love, although there is some of that as the story evolves, but that is not the focus. This is a story that explores the ins and outs of family, the frustrations, the pain and heartbreak of watching someone you love falling apart, and not comprehending what they need in order to help them.
A story of family, of the power that is shared through listening, memories, and, most of all, love.
