Isaac & Percival
Rating: 3.7 ⭐

- Enemies-to-Lovers
- Fake Husband
- College Soccer Players
- Sudden Royal

I couldn't even imagine waking up one day to be told by your adoptive parents that hey by the way your biological parents are royalty and they would like for you to claim your title. Percival (Percy) was living his best life and absolutely adored his adoptive parents, which is why it hurt so much when he found out they have been lying to him his whole life and they were secretly grooming him to be ready in case his parents wanted him to ever claim his title. Percy does not do well with this kind of emotional slap to the face, this boy is a runner. The same day he receives an email from Twin City U saying he was admitted to the school, so he decides to accept and run off to America.

Isaac is running himself ragged taking on too much in order to help everyone else but himself. He works multiple jobs to send money home to his family and to help fundraise money for his beloved Camp Tate. When Isaac was younger he got the opportunity to go to Camp Tate, there he meet Tate the founder/owner. For Isaac, Tate is who made sure that he had a scholarship to keep coming to the camp, teaching him how to be a better player, and setting him up with connections that helped him get the scholarship to attend Twin City U. Tate changed his life, saved him, and so he will do everything he can to help the old man rebuild the camp after it was burned down and help Tate take care of himself.

These two get off to a bad start with Isaac misinterpreting the tone and meanings behind what Percy was saying to him. Percy thought he was flirting and joking around but Isaac took everything he said as a taunt or slight to him. Percy didn't understand why Isaac seemed to hate him when Isaac was nice to everyone else but him. Some pranks are also played on each other, furthering their feud. Unfortunately for Percy, his birth parents find him in America and request a meeting to talk about him accepting his claim as a royal. Percy thinks that he can rile them up and get them off his back if he brings a fiancé to the meeting, his male fiancé. Knowing that Isaac needs money and wanting to be closer to the man, Percy strikes up a deal with Isaac to be his fake fiancé to help him throw off his birth parents. It gets a little mucked up and they end up agreeing to go through with an actual wedding and be married for a year before getting a divorce. Of course, feelings develop and these two knuckleheads had me spinning around in circles with how they kept refusing to just tell the other one they loved them. It was obvious to anyone watching them together but they kept thinking the other was just in it for the contract they signed, not returning their feelings. Since they're both knuckleheads, it goes wrong and then Percy runs from the emotional slap again and he goes back home to London. Now they both need to find a way to pull up their big boy pants and tell each other the truth, stop running and make some adult decisions about their lives.

I liked them as a couple and how well they balance each other out, but I wanted to knock their skulls together multiple times. The friend group is of course amazing, on both sides, and I'm glad they had lots of support throughout the sham and them getting back together. I was a little irked that we didn't get a follow-up on Isaac's family once the couple got back together, because they were still upset about the bomb they dropped during the holidays. Those are strong family ties for Isaac and it was kind of glossed over, especially since the author took time to tie up loose ends on Percy's side with his family members.

Isaac is in financial straits and when Percival, a soccer teammate from England offers to pay him to be a fake fiancé, he accepts. The problem is they hate each other. In a lovely enemies to lovers story Isaac and Percy can't fight the attraction but they are so different. Isaac so serious and dedicated, Percy fighting to not be Royal. Like the rest of the series, these two belong together and their hate speak rings false when they strike sparks with their passion. Hot, hot, hot! I received a copy of this book and this is my voluntary opinion.

💬 Review:
At first I really enjoyed the book, it started as strong 5/5 rating. I found the light antagonism between MCs funny and endearing. They were driving each other mad, pressing on all the buttons in a hilarious way. The banter with push and pull was good then it all went downhill for me. Percy’s lack of awareness due to his coddled upbringing was cute at first, leading to some amusing scenes (with the misunderstood British humour), but it stopped being so when his big mouth and attention seeking behaviour started to be simply hurtful.

It irked me how much Percy got away with using his charm and everyone cooing how adorable he was. He felt entitled to get back at Isaac by tampering with the fundraising event which meant so much to Isaac (to the point the poor boy was in tears) and was very careless in his “apologies” brushing off any blame. He thoughtlessly blurted out the news to Isaac’s family despite being told not to and caused tremendous pain (I felt so bad for them). Isaac was far too kind and forgiving. At that point I was puzzled what did he even love in rotten Percy? Granted, he didn’t do it with any malicious intent but the lack of accountability was still disgusting imo. Percy had moments of remorse and guilt but they lasted barely a second before he bounced back to his uncaring self. And people around him also tended to enable his actions so no wonder he never changed…

I disliked Percy’s parents, both bio and adopted. All were trash, I didn’t feel any of them truly apologised to him. Imo Percy should have been more upset and he let them back in too easily when his dads haven’t done enough to regain his trust. What they did was inexcusable. Them getting upset and cutting him off was a bit hypocritical though I agree Percy needed a hard reality check! The whole parents arc was just messy.

How did Issac and Percy even get together in the end? I didn’t believe in their love, it was superficial and insincere. Isaac had a sort of revelation (he was a giver and Percy was a taker, implying they were a perfect fit that way, which was total BS to me). On the other hand, Percy did absolutely nothing to grow up. He never truly tried to learn how to survive independently and constantly relied on his dads’s money and later accepted his bio family’s wealth. I hoped for redemption arc but Percy just went back to being spoiled and relying on family money rather than truly stepping up for once. Him accepting to be a royal heir when he clearly had no interest whatsoever but did it only so he didn’t end up poor, was such a disappointing outcome. Isaac was absolutely right to push Percy away yet he still ended up somehow being vilified?

There was plenty of satisfying spice. I especially liked that Isaac, who was usually goofy and meek, took charge in bed while Percy who was more superior and calling shots in their daily interactions, was more submissive instead.

It was a mostly sweet, funny story, some parts were not well fleshed out, some elements were OTT, the ending was rushed (not HEA for me) and left me rather annoyed with too many loose ends and lack of any personal growth/redemption on Percy’s part.

[I received a digital arc for an honest review]

Royal Defender by Cecelia Storm is the third book in the Twin City U series. Isaac is a notorious helper. He can’t seem to stop himself even if it wears him to the bone and bleeds his bank account dry. He’s never come across someone he didn’t want to help until Percy stormed into his life and onto his soccer team. Percy’s life was elegant and simple for so long but a deep held family secret has him fleeing across the Atlantic to do a year abroad at Twin City U. Things only get more complicated when his problems from England follow him so he forms a plan that includes Isaac. Percy makes Isaac an offer he can’t refuse and as the two finally stop making assumptions about each other and get to know one another they learn maybe there’s more between them than an agreement.

Isaac and Percy are such a mess both separately and together. Isaac can’t seem to put himself first for anything and wears himself down trying to do too much. Percy has never had to do too much so he struggles to understand Isaac’s lifestyle. The two have quite a bit of miscommunication but where they get each other well is in the bedroom. If they could be as open and honest in other aspects of their relationship things may go a bit smoother.

I enjoy this series as it is humorous, sweet and steamy. There are sports aspects to it as they are college athletes but it never completely focuses on that. You also get to see a bit more of the Camp Tate crew as well as Tate himself. I can’t help but be excited for whoever falls next.

4 stars for Isaac and Percy getting more than they bargained for.

This is a fun book. We meet Isaac volunteering and then arriving at soccer practice covered in mud where Percy teases him in a upperclass British manner (I did some University in Britain). Isaac takes a dislike to Percy but sees him as a competent soccer player.

Percy for some reason is in the Royal line but not making sense is he has to sign papers to accept and he does not wish to be caught in that environment. In order to avoid being harangued into agreeing he agrees to pay Isaac to be his fake fiance. Isaac is on scholarship and takes on various jobs to help his parents so he agrees. The relationship at first is not easy but they fall for each other.

After getting married a series of misunderstandings leads to Percy heading back to London and eventually discovering he really loves Isaac while Isaac feels his love is strong so they end up passing each other to meet. Once they meet, they confess their love.

The author has a light way of writing but uses a large number of incorrect facts to make the story what it is - for instance, Royal lineage is just that - you are born into it. The connections between Percy's birth mother and people in Minneapolis seem impossible. Yet the book is fun to read. It really falls at 3 1/2 so I assigned it a 4.

This is the third book in the TCU series and my favorite so far. Issac is a soccer player on scholarship that also tutors, works at a coffee shop and is trying to save the sports camp that saved him. Percy doesn’t want to be an English Royal, so he took the opportunity to study and play “football” in America. These two don’t exactly hit it off upon first meeting. When Percy needs a fake fiancé, he thinks of the only person he knows in need of money, Isaac. What starts out fake soon becomes real as feelings develop on both sides, but neither is willing to break their contract. As the stakes grow higher, pressures intensify leading one to run and the other to continue moving forward.
I enjoyed the story line and the two MC’s had a great dynamic between them. There wasn’t much input from the characters in the previous books which was a little disappointing, but we did get a little more insight into the founder of the summer camp, Tate. Overall, a good addition with family drama on both sides of the pond. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

FRENEMIES TO LOVERS TO FAKE MARRIAGE BLISS!

In the second book of the Twin City U series we got a hint who to expect in the next book- Isaac Foster…
Goalie for the Twin City U soccer team with altruistic intentions throughout his life until Percival Newmont joins the team as defender….

They have a frenemies to lovers dynamic with a far reaching impact and consequences in both their lives when frenemies turns to friends, allies and then lovers!

I loved their banter and pranks that lead to so much more than they both expected- a fake marriage that seemed to feel so real…

They have a few upheavals in their journey to finding love but together with the support of their friends, family and chosen family hopefully they can score a goal!

Percy shows remarkable emotional growth when he faces dire straights and shows how endearing he can be…
Isaac shows his selfish side when he reaches breaking point which could deter their future… but he does endear himself…

As with all the books we get a hint in the epilogue as to what to expect in the for the next book, and who it will depict- Quinn and …..

I voluntarily received an ARC from GRR for an honest non biased review.

Royal Defender is book 3 in Twin City U. It is a standalone novel, but with a cast of characters and over arching mystery/story development.

Percival and Isaac are 'chalk and cheese' from the moment they met they do NOT get along. They appear to be on the opposite ends of all the things! Rich/poor. Spoiled/Scholarship kid with job. Royal/Commoner. Only their love of soccer (football) is mutual.

But after Percival panics and tells some royal relatives he's got a boyfriend... he hatches a plan to pay Isaac to be his boyfriend. Seems simple enough... but things escalate quickly to fake marriage!?!

Will they find that opposites attract? And maybe just maybe.... they aren't enemies after all.

I really enjoyed Percy and Isaac. I'm normally not a big fan of 'active' miscommunication and wanting people to just say things out loud! To the people who need to hear it! But there was something about these two and their enemies to lover banter that really worked.

Isaac was pretty quiet and dedicated to his Camp Tate crew in the previous books, so it was fun to deep dive into him this book.

The third installment of Twin City U features Issac, Percival and football. Not American football, I mean soccer. Though not really very sports heavy (and you wouldn’t need to even be a sports fan) the real action focuses on our rivals turned fake boyfriends turned fake married turned really in love. Oh, and one of the characters is in line for the throne. So just add a dash of royalty to the mix and a whole lot of heat and bam! It’s just a real good time. This royalty is far enough away from the throne and most of the book takes place in the Midwest (America) so it doesn’t really seem quite as much like the traditional royalty meets regular with the focus really being on those opposites. Rather in this case I think the focus is really more on their developing relationship and why they are in a fake/real marriage and less about the politics and pomp of it all. There does remain the overarching plot about “camp Tate” and the epilogue of course alludes to a continuation of the overarching drama, but the main plot-lines could be read as a stand alone. I think you might think you were missing something, but you’re not because we’re all still waiting to find out more.

Isaac is a wonderful young man. He’s a giver, of his time and any money he can save. He’s volunteering to multiple charities, working several jobs, going to school and on a scholarship to play soccer for TCU. Percy has been spoilt his whole life. Being adopted has been great. He’s got parents who love him and give him just about anything he wants. That is until he learns his birth parents want him to welcome them into his life and to become the royal he’s supposed to be. After learning his adopted parents lied to him and had been training him to know useless royal things, Percy accepts a position with the TCU soccer team and heads to the states and school.

A plan for Isaac and Percy to fake date to get his birth parents off Percy’s back leads to a real fake marriage. For two guys that start off not liking each other to them being engaged then married and secretly in love is a bit of a stretch, but you can count on Cecelia Storm to weave a great story together and for a HEA to be the ending.

A Enemy to Lover Sports Romance Novel. Of two soccer player, two country’s and definitely to different walks of life. Who couldn’t stand each others on or off the field. One, Isaac. A kind, intelligent sole. Who appreciates his humble beginnings and the struggles of his past. The other, Percival or Perci as everyone called him. Was raised with wealth. Spoiled to the highest degree. Unaware of his Royal background heritage. Being unwanted by his birth parents since birth. Discovered his parents kept a huge secret from his birth... With no options he begins to make a plan, to protect his future.
It’s a cute story as they work through the ups and downs of Perci plan, to evades his now biological parents. Who just came back into his life, desperately wanting him to take his birth right and everything that comes with it.
What started out as a great plan to evade his biological parents and the prestige that comes with it. Will Perci and Isaac survive all the obstacles and there live with the deception it causes?

I hadn't ready any other books in the Twin City U series, and I didn't feel left out. The characters are very much defined by their plot function: snotty British royal and warm-hearted local who needs financial help.

I never believed that the royal would wind up in the American Midwest -- he seemed like he was overreacting a lot -- and I didn't believe that he'd keep making wisecracks without knowing they made him look like a jerk, nor did I believe his reasons to get married, but I was here for the fake-but-not-really marriage plot. Everything is all very artificial to make that plot happen.

Unfortunately, that wasn't satisfying. It's a shame the characters were so cardboard. I never really got caught up in the story. I didn't want to spend more time with them or wish for their happy ending. I just wanted them to figure things out and stop being so rude to each other. (I received a free digital ARC for review.)

This was a delightful book. There was so much humor, I smiled, giggled, snickered and laughed my way through it. Percy and Isaac played off each other so well, Percy getting under Isaac’s skin with his British humor, and Isaac going from 0 to 60 on the irritation scale in less than a heartbeat. When the fake fiancé/husband thing began, they were so stiff, I couldn’t figure out how they could sell the idea to anyone, but as time went on, they worked it out pretty well. That old bugaboo “communication” played a big part, as it so often does, leading to missed opportunities and fewer steamy times together. Since we know there will be a HEA, they obviously get their heads on straight and work it out, with a twist or two. A fun, light-hearted read with a smile for the reader at the end.
4.5 stars.

This is book three in the series and this is another enjoyable read, this is Percy and Issac’s story which is an enemies to lovers story about university soccer teammates Percy has run from London after getting some unexpected news and Issac is just trying to do his best for everyone but himself they get off to a rocky start but Percy comes up with a scheme which will help them both he hopes fake fiancée which turns into fake husbands but when feelings get involved and both want things to be real they are both to stubborn to admit it to each other and Percy runs back to London. They do eventually admit their feelings for each other and get their Hea. Good series worth a read and I’m looking forward to what comes next.

I liked the premise here. Percy recently found out his birth parents are in the royal family. He’s quite far down in the succession, but his birth parents are suddenly interested in bringing him into the fold. It’s an original twist I’ve not come across before. It’s overall a cute read but had some plot points that didn’t quite make sense. It seems unlikely that Percy’s rich and titled parents would put a “royal”heir up for adoption. The reason behind the fake fiancé plot felt a little tenuous, Percy offers up a fake future husband the first time he speaks to his birth mother. But, it does have a good ending and I did grow to like Percy and Isaac as a couple.

This was a five star read for me, although Percy was a right royal pain who annoyed me intensely! He was so annoying I’m surprised Isaac fell for him, however over the course of the story, there is some personal growth for him, which given his age is to be expected. Anytime Thaddeus steps into the picture, my heart rate goes up and not in a good way. That man is pure evil. I guess we’ll get his story one day, but not this time. Fortunately, no-one seems to trust him, so he doesn’t get away with too much for too long – usually. Despite my irritation with Percy, this story had me invested in Isaac and his budding relationship, and I enjoyed it very much.

In a time when the world runs mad everyone needs a fairytale of love and happiness. This book is every person’s dream complete with its own happily ever after. The two m/c’s, from the beginning, have an irritant dynamic between them, or so it would seem. It appears Percy’s is more an act, but Isaac’s is real and that plays well into the enemies to more idea. The storyline is entertaining and has it’s drama so, again, making the plot even more agreeable. Easy to like characters both good and villainous. An interesting ending, as well, so we’ll see what happens next. I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book.

I enjoyed this book. I liked both Percy and Isaac. I was fascinated with Percy- adopted by loving parents who'd known his birth parents were royals and had secretly been teaching him things he would need to know should they ever contact him. I didn't expect Percy to not have known all along he was royalty, so that was a nice twist on things. He and Isaac were always at odds, and I enjoyed them growing closer and falling in love though their fake relationship. A very happy ending. I also liked the supporting characters- especially Hen and Billy. I could just see them in my mind's eye. This is the first book I've read from this author and I would read more. 4 stars.

Percy is a lucky man. He is young, wealthy, and adored by his adoptive dads. Then his world gets rocked. Not only are his biological parents interested in being part of his life but they are part of the aristocracy and they want to name him as their heir. Overcome with media attention and feelings of betrayal Percy runs off to the Midwest to play soccer and escape. He meets Issac, a hard-working regular Joe. At first, they clash but Percy propositions Issac to be his fake husband to fend off his parents. I loved that both men grow during the story and learn how to step up and support each other.

Percy and Isaac! These two started off on the wrong communication foot here. Isaac genuinely did not understand the things Percy said and did. He could not relate and was kind of instantly ready to be defensive. Percy may have had everything he needed money wise, but he definitely was missing in the someone to trust and rely on department. As always, the supporting teammates and friends are wonderful and add the fresh side humor. I also enjoyed the more realistic side to Percy's royalty status.

This book was unexpected. I like a fake dating story and a marriage of convenience and this was combined in the best way. The 3rd book in the series and I’m so exciting to see what happens next. I love seeing the plot move forward and seeing more of Tate was amazing. Can’t wait to see what happens next.
This book was enemies to lovers with the miscommunication seeming to happen when they meet. Still a fun time.

Percy is living a normal life - he thinks. When he finds out, that his biological parents were royals and that they would like him to claim his title, he flees to the USA. There he meets Isaac, who is scrambling to make months end.
Percy's biological parents follow him so Percy doesn't see any other chance than to hire Isaac to be his pretend finance.

Normally I love fake-boyfriends to lovers tropes, but I just couldn't warm to the characters of this book. I just didn't understand the reasoning behind the insistence to claim the title.
Therefore "only" 3 stars.

This was a great book! This was my favorite of the series.
Percy is adopted by a gay couple. His parent's weren't married and decided to give him up, instead of having a scandal. He finds out that his bio parents want to claim him and wants nothing to do with it. He is a fantastic soccer player and decides to travel abroad to America to go to college there. His British wit doesn't impress the star goalie Isaac.
Isaac is poor, and has to work, play soccer, and he volunteers as much as possible. He is a big supporter of Tate's Camp.
Percy doesn't want to be in the line for Royalty, so he decides to offer an arrangement with Isaac. Isaac will pretend to be his boyfriend around his bio parents.
Things get sticky and words are said and the next thing you know, there will be a wedding around Christmas!
If you read the previous books, the guys are also back. So is Tate! Have to love the stubborn guy.

This was very humorous and I couldn't stop smiling as I read this book. This was all about growth and accepting change. I liked seeing most of the characters change for the better after time and understanding. Percy had to grow on me after I understood what made him tick. I liked Isaac's dedication to Tate. It was heartwarming to see the love flow both ways. The ending came together brilliantly. I loved it.

I did enjoy this book and have read the preceding books, which are not required reading but do help fill in a few blanks. The two main characters were likeable, with issues. The overall story was good. Unfortunately, the description and title of this book are slightly misleading as Percy is not really a Royal per se. The story doesn’t really cover this with enough depth and indicated that he was around 250th in line which would make him nobility rather than royalty.

Who doesn't love a good fake boyfriends trope??? I know I love it very much. I can't believe I just found out about Cecelia last year. She's an amazing author. I was rooting for the characters from the start. They made me stay up till 3am trying to finish the book. And I did. So worth it. I'm not going to give any spoilers but if you love sports, characters that'll make you swoon and fake boyfriends to real boyfriends, then I would recommend it. I'm in love,I think I'll reread again tomorrow 😍

I sorta liked this book. Being from the UK, not everyone refers to soccer as football, as theres more than 1 type. Another thing I dislike, is the uppercrust, tally ho idea that everyone speaks that way.

As for Percy and Isacc, thry were a cute couple when they finally admitted their errors. But there was no explaination for the way Percy got on the first time they met, despite the claim Percy was interested in Isacc.

The unexpected, rules. Percy, is a Royal at Twin City U to play soccor. Isaac, is living his dream at his dream school, playing his dream sport. He takes the job playing fake husband to Percy. He justifies and rationalizes until he catches feelings. He is not used to considering himself always putting others first. Fun story, nicely done, great characters. Percy and Isaac, are fun. Well done. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
