Collapse of America #2

Behind The Gates 2

Rate this book
The end of America came slowly.
It was death by a thousand cuts.
The collapse came in a rush.
Survival would require a thousand stitches.

With the threats brought to their doorstep, the neighbors behind the gates face a dilemma. Do they try to make peace with those who've threatened their very existence if they don't pay a King's ransom in food and supplies? Or, do they stand their ground and fight back in an effort to protect their property and themselves.

Old, festering animosity within the neighborhood rises to the surface as two distinct factions are in complete disagreement as to the best course of action. Will the two groups be able to put their differences aside? Or, will their division result in their one peaceful gated community be overrun resulting in the loss of property and their lives?

The nation is one bad news story away from economic and societal collapse. Behind The Gates is a post apocalyptic survival fiction series about one community's struggles to ward off an existential threat from their fellow man. Can they find common ground or will they most certainly succumb to the threats that surround them?

What to do when the Lights go out.

Behind the Gates 2: A Post-Apocalyptic Survival Thriller (Collapse of America) by Bobby Akart lives up to the level of reality, fear and chaos he started in the first book.

The Friday Night Club, the group of residents at The Colony in Malibu, is still working together to prepare for what they see as an inevitable collapse of society. By this time, the West Coast's power grid has gone down, everywhere but Los Angeles County.

Terror has herded the majority of the West Coast's inhabitants towards Los Angeles, and they are streaming right past the security gates of The Colony on the Pacific Westcoast Highway.

As the overloaded traffic comes to a halt, our Friday Night Club members watch in horror as the situations their friend Grayson warned them about begins to manifest. Despite security at the gate, multiple groups of people toting guns race into their complex and head for individual homes.

Most unsettling in this second installment are the speed of the initial breakout of violence facing society; the lightening pace at which common rules are smashed and how close to the surface of seemingly civilized people are the faces of psychopaths and megalomaniacs.

Akart writes such believable characters that you will find yourself looking at your neighbors and wondering if they are capable of the atrocities you're reading. Paranoia doesn't mean people aren't out to get you.

Another triumph for Bobby Akart and another sleepless night for those of us dumb enough to read this book before bedtime. A definite five star read and highly recommended.

Grid Down

Anytime and for whatever reason that the power grid goes down, immediately expect lawlessness, panic, and deaths from either no longer supported medical devices or from accidents, gangs, thieves, or overly anxious home defenders or miscreants taking advantage of of the resulting chaos. All of this happens before people even realize there is going to be a shortage of food, water, and sanitation.

PINS AND NEEDLES

Wow! Talk about a nail biter!
Total impact, realistic scenarios and just excellent writing makes this series an EVENT everyone should read. Societal collapse, at its finest without all the hullabaloo that other authors use. Love Bobby Akart, HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Love, Love, Love it!

Best author ever! Can't wait to read Akart's
books. Hate it when I'm done. Wish I could wait for the whole series to be out before starting, but I just can't wait.

Well developed characters, scenarios so close to reality it's scary!

Holy Cow

I was extremely stressed out reading this book. All I could think about was this is how our present administration wants life to be like. Red Flag Laws scare me. Even being questioned about "Why do you need 40 pounds of beans?" makes me want to keep my mouth shut and not let people think my tin foil hat is too tight. THEN.....You had to stop book two here? I can't wait until the next book comes out.....that's cruel.

Riveting.

I am totally loving this series so far.
The pace has quickened considerably our Friday Night Club is getting pummelled by the hierarchy of the HOA, Toby and his sidekick, Zelmanski, who would like to topple Toby, are totally boiling my blood with their antics. The Club need to up their game to beat the bullies and I'm not sure they can. Extremely enjoyable and I'm starting number 3.

There are now 2 distinct factions at play in the gated community. One side are being totally duped by the HOA and their hired thugs while our Friday Night group and others are trying to protect their food, supplies and their right to decide what is best for them. When the power goes out for 12 hrs. one night and outsiders threaten the community, events are started that will affect them all. The two factions clash in their response creating deeper divides, who will come out on top and will it be worth it?

Bobby rocks it out of the park again. First book is slow as he gets you into every one involved in the plot. Ya have to pay attention. Then... It ends. Get ready for book two. One can't help but notice everything seems to fit the times almost as if he can predict the future. Or maybe he does. Book two can make you angry with the system and don't ever think this isn't exactly how it works. After being on law enforcement for over three decades, I have seen it and glad to be retired.
Cabt wait to here from Dean again.

You know those emp-style books that the main character just happens to have a solar-flare proof 37 Duesenberg? Or grampa left them a fully stocked cabin in the middle of no-where? They somehow had $34,649 in cash with them and were able to hit Costco and buy everything? No. Akart does not write those. You will get an idea or two if you are smart, but no, there are always challenges in his books. And on top of current events? Holy cow! How can he write so fast when he must be reading the news 80% of the time.
Read the book. Think on what you learn from the Professor and be aware.

decent story

The characters were initially presented as type cast political statements. Very heavy handed on making political statements. Now that the story is getting moving hope the political biases fade away as they should in reality as well.
Hopefully Mr. Akart tells a better overall story in book two. If it continues to be strong political messaging I will have to stop. There’s too much of that everywhere else.

A Neiborhood squabble?

The bad neighborhood guys ramp up their power and psychology.
The good guys try to save Dean, now trying to stay whole while in jail.
And the power goes out again…..the stresses escalate and the mean of heart and nasty ones of life work their violence to get what they want. Tense moments leave the reader wondering what to do to survive. Mistakes and incompetence reflect the ugliness of prison and it’s stunning.

Love Bobby but hate to be preached at!

That being said, I understand that Bobby wants Everyone to be prepared for the collapse of society due to anything that might happen. But there's a lot of predictable parts to the story and all in the name of prepping! Well here's to the next book in the series. Hope it holds so.e twists to the story.

Survival Thriller

The Colony neighbors had been trying to prepare for a crisis but had just begun before the power went out. Chaos ensued within a few short hours and refugees swarm their homes. All this is happening as the HOA president and his hired security force attempt to take control.

too realistic

As usual, a very interesting and spellbinding story. The situation is all too real and could easily take place. I am about to read the third installment, but I have to force myself because this is all too real and a little bit frightening. However, it is better to be aware than to be a ignorant, and not aware.

Good survival thriller

Quick, moving Book 2 in the series. The author provides real feelings of those people experiencing a black-out and the struggles to survive.

The end of the world as we know it is real, and Bobby Akart does a fine job describing it.

The book is exciting and relevant. I enjoyed reading it.

Stage Two- False Flag
Wow, this is a great series! The Friday Night Club is ready for a disaster, but they are pretty much the only ones. It comes in the form of a blackout and there is chaos everywhere. The group is ready to protect their homes. Who or what caused the blackout?

Why did it have to end so soon, and why do I need to wait another month to read this next book? As usual, this was an exciting read with relatable characters and a plausible plot. I thoroughly enjoy Bobby Akart's books.

I keep hoping Chuck Norris and Steven Seggal will show up and take care of the neighborhood bullies. Can't wait for the final book to come out and see logic and justice prevail.

Thrill Ride

This is a non-profit stop roller coaster ride that resembles America. I couldn't get the parallels of this book and the current political stress out of my mind. This is a scary possible reality !
