The last thing I need is to be trapped in a snowstorm with a pretty girl who can barely stand me … while I’m wearing an elf costume.
The elf thing started at birth, since my parents portray Santa and Mrs. Claus for our family business every year. You could say being an elf is in my DNA, and everyone in our small town knows me that way.
Except, I’m so tired of it.
I mean, did my mom really have to give me the elf name of Elfie Tinselbottom? Not terribly masculine, if you ask me.
To make matters worse, my very existence seems to piss off the newest elf—a gorgeous girl named Lydia who's just moved to Arcadian Falls. She's as sunshiny and filled with Christmas cheer as everyone else—except when she's with me. I seem to make her as frosty as an icicle.
But an off-site party and a snowstorm traps us alone at the event space. How are we going to survive a whole night stuck together?
Will I be able to break through the cold exterior she keeps up only around me? Or will I be doomed to be Santa's grumpiest elf forever?
The Grumpiest Elf is a low angst Christmas rom com featuring a grumpy elf who just wants to be a normal guy and the new girl who cures him of his Grinchy ways. Light and fun and full of all the holiday feels!
Jerica MacMillan has been reading romance since she stumbled into the paperback section of the library as a middle schooler. And it's been an ongoing love affair ever since!

This is a fun Hallmark Holiday movie type series. If Hallmark Holiday movies were a little more steamy. I love the idea of ChristmasFest and the small town in general. It’s an easy festive swoony read. This is book three in the series, but fear not if you haven’t read the others. They’re interconnected stand-alones and can definitely be read without having read the whole series.
Each book has been focused on a different sibling, and this time we get Dylan’s story. Dylan is 21 and a senior in college, home for Christmas break and forced to don an elf costume at his family business. And he loathes it. He’s the grump in this grumpy sunshine story. Lydia is just turned 19 and finished her first semester in college before going to stay with her mom and taking a job at Dylan’s family ChristmasFest. She’s decided to take the next semester off and is struggling to find her way after her parents’ unexpected divorce.
My only issue- and it’s a 100% **me** issue and not at all reflective on the author- is the main character’s ages.
They’re a great grumpy-sunshine story. They’re both dealing with age appropriate emotional baggage, and behave completely age appropriate. That’s the part that’s my issue. 😂 TBH if I had paid attention, I would probably have skipped the read just because I’m not a super fan of such young main characters. It makes me feel too old. 🤷🏼♀️ They have their first steamy scene at around 70% and I had some feelings about it just because my head kept telling me they were babies. ::sigh:: Again- totally on me. Looking back, I’m actually glad I didn’t realize their ages initially, because like I said I likely wouldn’t have read it. But it was worth it. They’re adorable, they’re written well and believably, and remarkable appropriately. There no unnecessary angst, no forced or contrived drama, no third act breakup. For a moment I thought I saw one coming, thought there was going to be a conflict based on their immaturity, but I was so pleasantly surprised. And actually, I was impressed by the amount of maturity - particularly by Lydia, though they both displayed it. They both had a lot of age appropriate growth as well. So while the barely adult age isn’t my favorite by far, this one is written remarkably well. If you’re looking for a fun holiday theme read, with a bit of spicy spicy, this is a great series.
My thoughts 💭- This is the third book in the Arcadian Falls Christmas series.
We follow Dylan and Lydia, two Christmas grotto elves who don’t exactly get along after a moody introduction on Dylans first day back at work.
Dylan is moody over his elf name “Elfie Tinselbottom” even though it’s hardly brought up and i’m honestly not sure it’s role in the story it was like a funny nickname but was also never used but was so significant in his childhood that he was bullied for it. Therefore Dylan (now at University/College) no longer wants to work this Christmas job as he hates it and his nickname, his parents go on to explain that their family business is funding his tuition, rent and bill and they also pay him to be an elf over Christmas (too generous if you ask me) and say if he hates it so much he can get a different temp job over Christmas but he can’t not work (Dylan isn’t a fan of this)
He falls in love with Lydia (who I loved her character was amazing) and suddenly he love’s Christmas and his job after their first date. From then on it’s just me me me from Dylan as he wants to have sex with Lydia and is frustrated he lives at home and so does she. Lydia tells him about her parents divorce and she’s unsure about her future and Dylans thoughts are basically wow get over it and how can I get her to follow me to my dreams.
I’m rather upset that in the end Dylan gets his own way as I wasn’t too fond of his character as he was rather selfish and seemed to think as long as he didn’t comment or say stupid things that he was suddenly a good person even though his internal monologue was still incredibly selfish.
I have to admit that it took me a little bit to warm up to Dylan as he is truly "the grumpiest elf". I totally adored Lydia as she is a total sweetheart. However, once they get to know each other, their real personalities start to shine. They are so cute together and I love their banter as they navigate through the challenges that life seems to throw at them. I especially loved Dylan's family as they truly represent love, family and the holidays!
I received a free advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my fair and honest review.
Cute, fun holiday read. Loved the spirit of Christmas fest and the dedication Dylan’s parents had to it, but the story felt a bit rushed at times. *I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I've been loving all of the holiday themed books so far, and The Grumpiest Elf was no exception. Just like the first two books this book is fun, festive and spicy. Nothing was left out.
I really love reading books with Christmas themes and this book was no exception, it surprised me and even though it was a little long, I liked it 🫶🏻🎄
Dylan is our grumpy guy who has to act as an elf in his family's business while he is home for the holidays, let's say he is not happy with that and everyone knows it, while working he meets Lydia who is the new employee and she is a very happy person and he kind of doesn't like that and he tells her, come on, the girl is definitely all about the Christmas spirit. The relationship between these two grows after they get caught in a snowstorm and I liked that he apologized and cleared up the whole misunderstanding, that he validated her feelings and what was happening with her family, that he listened to her but most of all that he was there for her and supported her. I liked that the author gave us a realistic ending, yes, they stay together, but to achieve it they go through an obstacle that, although not bad, felt real.
For these dates it is a very good book. Super easy to read and with that characteristic style of books set at Christmas.
Thanks to the author and Grey's Promotions for the e-arc in exchange for my honest review!!

I don't know what to say but The Grumpiest Elf by Jerica MacMillan gives me a conflict feeling! I read a few of festive Christmas romance books by now and all of them have a cheerful and even if some might have an angsty vibe, it's still mainly festive... you know what I mean, right?
But this book is just like its title presented! It's the grumpiest Christmas romance book I read so far and Dylan is definitely the grumpiest elf I met. Since MacMillan writes Arcadian Falls' Christmas once a year, I tend to forget its characters until I take some time reading for a while. I don't remember Dylan in the previous books but Dylan in this book is a little bit selfish, I think?!? I understand that he is a new adult and he wants to be free from his family's Christmas event. But da**, even if I'm an introvert, I still want to visit Arcadian Falls and his family's Christmas event! So yes, I think Dylan is selfish (evil eyes.)
But I like Lydia. She is new to town because her parents got divorced and her mother moved here. And even if she has an issue of her own, she still want to enjoy Christmas. I totally understand why Lydia keeps herself away from Dylan. His negative attitude doesn't help with her feeling at all.
So their love story is super angsty with both Dylan and Lydia's issues which I didn't prepare myself for. It's Christmas romance you guys, it's supposed to be festive and has small town charms! But with Dylan's grumpy and Lydia's issue, I found out that I was a little bit stressed while I was reading this book (- -') I think the best part is because of Lydia, Dylan finally sees some light and knows that he is selfish. And Dylan is one of Lydia's supporters aside from her mother. He is so understanding when it comes to Lydia which I think it's super sweet and swoon-worthy.
Now you see why I have a conflict feeling. I think if I was prepared myself for a grumpy and angsty part, I would enjoy reading this book more so with this benefit of the doubt, I decide to give this book 4 stars. And I still want to read Nora's book and hope it's second chance (fingers cross.)
A swoon-worthy 'Elfie' grump for the cheerful 'Holly Sparkleflakes' The Grumpiest Elf by Jerica MacMillan is a wonderful grumpy-sunshine, opposites attract holiday romance. This story is full of wonderful family holiday traditions. Depending on the POV, some are beloved yet perceived as a chore, pothers are evolving to a new reality. I found this holiday romance to be very entertaining with great characters and witty banter while checking off the heat and heart boxes. Dylan and Lydia are coworkers at his family's ChristmasFest business and as a young adult, he is loath at his required and continued participation to work. Lydia however, is excited and cheerful as a hired Elf for the season. Lydia is in need of distraction and the money this job will provide which is all tied to the emotional upheaval within her own family. The plot takes this couple through the paces of knee-jerk grumpy interactions that lead to misunderstanding and unintentional distancing. Despite his fall back grumpy behavior, Dylan does like Lydia and just can't seem to understand what he did to put her off. The entertaining bit is that he has sassy, bossy sisters to set him straight! As their interactions take a turn to the positive and much more festive, chemistry and attraction evolves into friendship and lovers. This couple was entertaining before all the steamy, swoony goodness and adorable once the grumpiest Elf got over himself. Overall, Elfie Tinselbottom and Holly Sparkleflakes go the distance in this holiday romance and beyond. With a magical Christmas to start, understanding and acceptance of each other's needs, their love grows and sustains, promising a very happy, fulfilling and long lasting HEA. I read an ARC of this book via Grey's Promotions and voluntarily share my review.
Dylan (3rd Sibling) is back from college and forced into the Christmas spirit by his family, he feels that as an adult they should be more respectful of his wishes to no longer want to dress up and work as an elf (or be called by his elf name that he received from his mom when he was a baby). This year he is a bit extra grumpy about it because they have discussed that if he doesn't want to work at the festival he can find another job and help support himself at college... yes he's being a bit of a Grinch but he doesn't feel he's being unreasonable. I personally thought that his parents were being really supportive and he is getting paid to do this job it's not like they are making him do this for free.
Also working as an elf is the new girl in town Lydia, she is sweet, cute and charming she is truly an elf come to life and too bubbly for Mr. Grumpus (Dylan) and he tells her so when they first meet causing an initial rift for them... as they get to know each other better and end up getting snowed in together after working one night maybe they can get along after all. Lydia is struggling with home life after her parents recently got divorced throwing her off and making her reconsider her life choices to the point where she could use a break from college (which her dad hates and has decided to cut her off if she doesn't go back to school after the holiday break).
Was just ok for me it was cute but I found the story kind of dragged at times and the back half was a lot of spice time or inner monologue from Dylan about how to find a time and a place to go for more spice time with Lydia.
I enjoyed the first two books in this series more than this one, but I plan to read Nora's story to finish the series.
This is a cute story with more depth than expected. Lydia is a freshman college drop out, shook after her parents’ unexpected divorce and estranged from her father. She moves in with her mother and takes a holiday season job as an elf at a Santa booth than is run by Dylan’s family. Dylan is a college senior, forced by his parents to once again dress up as an elf like he’s been made his entire life to help out at the family business. He’s grumpy to her sunshine and they start off on a very bad foot. A night spent together during a storm allows them to air their misunderstandings and brings them together. The book had more depth than expected as both characters are finding their way as young adults and their roles in their families. The characters quickly form a sexual relationship and the scenes are very much open door. The families are likable, with sibling relationships feeling real (teasing, advice, support). Overall a very enjoyable story with more depth than I expected for a simple holiday romcom.
If you're in the mood for a sizzling Christmas romance that will warm your heart and tickle your funny bone, "The Grumpiest Elf" is the festive read for you. This enchanting tale unfolds at the Christmas Emporium, where Dylan, once the jolly Elf Tinselbottom, has taken on a grumpier persona, so when Lydia, a college student on a break trying to find out what she wants she becomes the newest addition to the elf brigade, sparks fly in all the wrong directions as Dylan and Lydia clash in a symphony of witty banter and humorous misunderstandings. The chemistry between them is undeniable, and as they navigate the chaos of the Christmas season, the sparks take an unexpected turn, igniting a completely different kind of fire.
The Grumpiest Elf is a must-read for anyone looking to escape into a heartwarming Christmas romance with a touch of humor. Dylan and Lydia's love story is a delightful dance that will leave you with a smile on your face and a warm, fuzzy feeling in your heart.
They seem to come out once a year and I wait patiently for their release. But I didn't see a mention of another for next year and this makes me a little sad.
The Grumpiest Elf was Dylan and Lydia's story and you guessed it Dylan is the grump. With just a semester left in college he hates the idea that he still has to play the elf for his families business. With a growly face he goes full blast on their new employee Lydia. Until he doesn't understand why she's being professionally polite to him and cold shoulder. He brings this up to his sister Sarah and she just has to laugh when he tells her what he actually said to Lydia. Armed with the advise of his sister he tries to make a amends but Lydia doesn't trust him. Cute cute story and I love how Lydia warms up to Dylan. If you haven't read any of the Arcadian Falls books please please start with A Very Grumpy Christmas you seriously won't be sorry.
Loved this story! Lydia’s first impression and interaction with Dylan is not the greatest. He’s grumpy and it starts with her calling him by his elf name. Which is totally not her fault considering he’s had it all his life. He doesn’t seem to enjoy Christmas since he is surrounded by it all the time. His parents are adorable together and their alter egos are the best. Dylan’s whole family are part of the Christmas spirit in their town.
Lydia is working with Dylan and his family for the season. She loves everything about Christmas and is doing great at her new job. When these two get stranded, it’s all gloves all. They have strong chemistry and insta love but they don’t have much time before the season is over and they get back to their lives. The dilemma they face is challenging. Perfect for the holiday season!
Elfie Tinselbottom is the grumpiest elf in Arcadian Falls. Why, he doesn't want to play the elf anymore. It's Dylan's Christmas romance, and he is so grumpy he almost blew it. Lydia, a college dropout is new in town and the newest elf addition to the ChristmasFest. She is super cheerful and is getting on Dylan's nerves. But when everyone asks him why he is so grumpy and mean to her, he takes offense. Dylan decides to try and be extra nice, and that doesn't work either. What does? a snowstorm stranding them together. Really enjoyed the interactions of this couple. We get great involvement from the respective families, true small town Christmas charms, and more. Only concern: no precursor to another Arcadian Falls Christmas for next year. I mean, there has to be one. We NEED Nora's christmas romance.
Dylan is back home for the Christmas break and is forced to work in his family's business, as a Christmas elf! It was ok when he was younger but as a senior in college, he is so over it. And to top it off, his mom has given them all holiday names, he is Elfie Tinselbottom and it makes it even worse to work the ChrstmasFest! This makes him the grumpy elf!
Then he meets the cute new elf, Lydia, that was hired. On his first day back, Lydia saw she was scheduled to work with "Elfie" and this made him more grumpy! You know how first impressions stay with you and Lydia was not happy with Dylan's remarks. This was such a funny romcom, perfect for the holidays. I loved how Dylan redeemed himself.
Back to Arcadian Falls we go for another cozy Chriatmas read!
Lydia moves to Arcadian Falls to live with her mother for the Christmas season, as well as taking a semester off from college. She gets a job at Dylan’s family’s Christmas shop as an elf for the season. Dylan is a grumpy mister, but after working together at a Christmas event sparks fly between the two. We follow their romance throughout the book, with some seriously spicy moments.
Notes: The first 50ish pages were incredibly slow, and took me awhile to get into, but after that things sped up, and the book was redeemed!
Tropes 🎄Grumpy x Sunshine 🎄 Small Town Romance 🎄 Cozy Christmas
Thank you Valentine PR for allowing me to read/review this ARC in exchange for an honest opinion
Dylan is fed up wearing an elf costume for the holidays, as his parents are Santa and Mrs Claus for their family’s business each year, and to make it worst his elf’s name is Elfie. Lydia is at a crossroads in her life, and she is taking a break from college needing to regroup and is hired as the new elf. The sparks fly between these two, and they are trapped together is a snowstorm. This is a well written story which is an easy to read, slow burn, grumpy / sunshine story, with family, friendships, humor, witty banter, emotions, tension, a tad angst, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, magical gem, small town romance. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
The Grumpiest Elf is a fun Christmas read from Jerica MacMillan.
Dylan has worked at his parents' Christmas businesses his whole life. He's not looking forward to being an elf again this year, but if he doesn't his parents won't provide financial support for his last year of college. Lydia has just started working with Dylan, but the two do not get along at first. When an off site party and snowstorm force them to spend time together, though, everything starts to change.
The writing was easy to read and fun, and I liked the chemistry between Dylan and Lydia as they grew closer. This was a great holiday story and I couldn't wait to see them get an HEA.
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
The last thing that Dylan wants to do is spend the holidays working as an elf even if his family represents Christmas in their town. His attitude is better known for the grinch and not an elf which doesn’t bode well when he meets Lydia, a fellow elf.
Lydia has moved to town to be there for her mother and she embraces Christmas and the magic that goes along with. She doesn’t want anything to do with Dylan and his bad attitude until a snowstorm and some forced proximity allows her to see the man and not his attitude.
Dylan may not have made a good first impression but he works hard to overcome it. He is understanding about what she is going through and shows her that their romance is strong enough to transcend the holidays to happy ever after.
This is a brilliant read. Dylan is an Elf again at his families Christmas fest but he doesn't want to do it this year and his grump is showing. Lydia is glad that she has a job for the Christmas break in the new town that her mother lives in but having to put up with a grumpy Elf is not fun. There is chemistry between the two but she stays away from Dylan but when they get trapped together in a snowstorm things start to change. I loved how they were together but he will be going back to college soon and she isn't sure what she wants to do yet. Could they make a go of a long distance relationship or will it tear them apart. A must read with plenty of laughs but also so much love and emotion. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
The Grumpiest Elf is a college holiday break romance between two coworkers who are Santa’s helpers for the season. Dylan’s family run and owns the majority of the holiday season and stores in their small town, and he’s been an elf for his whole, and at 21 he’s tired of it and wants to make his own path.
Lydia is new to town and absolutely adores being an elf, naturally this rubs Dylan the wrong way and these two get off on the wrong foot. Soon later, they both start to develop feelings as they work together, but as it’s holiday break for both of them, they have to figure out if they can make it for the long run.
The Grumpiest Elf is a cute holiday read. I could not get enough of this one. Dylan is over working the family business and ready to put his elf dressing days behind him. He is grumpy but with reason. Lydia is the sunshine and happy to do her job. She is figuring out life as her parents divorce not wanting to follow her father's plans. I love how Dylan and Lydia rocky start turns into more as they get to know each other better. They have such a sweet way about them as they navigate what the future holds for them. I love Dylan and Lydia so much. This will get you into the holiday spirit. Go one click now.
Dylan is home for the holidays and the last thing he wants to do is dress as an Elf to help his family's shop. It's a tradition he knows, but he's old enough he doesn't want to do it. He becomes so grumpy that he thinks he knows best. When he meets their newest employee Lydia he is not amused. Lydia has had to take some time of from school and gets a job as an Elf. She loves what she does, but the downside is Dylan and his grumpiness. These two will butt heads, but can they look at the bigger picture? These two have a love/hate relationship but what I love is they will show each other what to love about life and Christmas again.
I really enjoyed this Christmas rom com. I found Elfie Tinselbottom and Holly Sparkleflakes (Dylan and Lydia) to be great. He is tired of participating in all of the traditions of his family and is grumpy because of it. Lydia is sunshine and happiness and can’t wait to be an elf at his parent’s business. They have witty banter and great chemistry, but she keeps putting him off and he can’t figure out what he did. He really likes her and doesn’t know what to do. With the help of his sisters, he just might be able to change her mind about him. I thought this was a cute holiday rom com and wouldn’t mind more from this world. I received an ARC and this is my honest, voluntary review.
The reason I'm giving this book 2 stars instead of 1 is because I loved Lydia! She was the best part of the book. I hate to say it, but she deserved better than Dylan. He was incredibly ungrateful and entitled. His parents gave him everything and asked very little. Even with Lydia, he was selfish. He pushed her to do things she wasn't comfortable with. It didn't happen just once either, but multiple times. By the end, he was still the same entitled selfish prick. He just didn't show it to Lydia. She's the sweetest character ever. I love her personality and I can't believe the author paired her with such a jerk. I think this is where my journey with this series ends.
I love revisiting Arcadian Falls! There's always something fun going on. Dylan might be the grumpiest in the entire family. He reluctantly helps his family every year, but this time, he's pretty tired of it. Lydia is new to town just trying to save money. They definitely do not get along other than just trying to work together, until one stormy night changes things. After Dylan gets over himself, he can be pretty sweet. I loved the way their friendship builds over time. They were just wonderful!
I've been loving all of the holiday themed books so far, and The Grumpiest Elf was no exception. Its spicy, funny and a great festive read. Dylan is home for Christmas break and forced to work as an elf for his family's business. Ok, well that was all fine and dandy when he was younger, but as a senior in college, how embarrassing right. When he meets the new elf Lydia, things don't go as planned and neither seem to care for the other. I laughed so much at this book, especially the elf names. This is the perfect holiday romcom to get you in the holiday spirits.
