We are at war, and I will do anything to protect my girls.
Greystone's arcane dome shimmers under the barrage of spells. The walls are manned, and the Valtorian host has come. As we await the final battle, the forces of Tan'Malas spread their corruption through both camps. The war threatens to consume everything we've worked for and take from me all those I care about. I learned the hard way how easy it is to lose everyone and everything. I will not let that happen again. To me, my girls and my friends are more important than all of Greystone and Valtoria combined.
Benny and Legs, my trusted War Beasts, risk it all to reach their next evolutions, while Grom finally comes to terms that he has to fight in order to survive. They, along with the power of my beautiful women and new allies, will make sure that we all make it out of the siege alive.
The dome trembles under the onslaught of enemy spells, and screams echo across the city as animus, creatures of Tan'Malas, corrupt and devour the living. The time has come to decide. Will we stay and fight to possibly live or leave it all behind and get a new chance most won't?
The darkest hour of Greystone's history has come as the first towers and walls crumble, then fall.
This is an okay setting, with some very forgettable characters, and a surprisingly good plot, crippled by a tidal wave of continuity errors. Expect to be paging through the book multiple times per chapter trying to figure out what the hell is going on, because it's a non-stop flood.
There's big things like levels rolling back, or decisions being made or undone, but also just small glitches. Over and over we get things like "...the attack was strong, but nobody was killed outright. Several of the guards were dead instantly, but the stronger ones were merely knocked off their feet".
You can generally, if you squint a bit, figure out what the author was trying to do; by this point in the series I reckon I'm getting quite skilled at translating the confusing, contradictory nonsense the author wrote into a mostly coherent narative.
I'm liking the story, and it's progression in book 2. It's definitely taking unexpected turns, especially the end. A lot of the conversations between MC and his harem came off as pretty awkward to me though. Like it just didn't feel like it flowed naturally. And that really put me off. But that's just me. It's hard to explain, it's almost like the author is doubling down on the unique personality quirks of each character and it's getting irksome. This is especially so for Sonia, Janette and Benny (yes i know Benny isn't in the harem - not for lack of trying) Like hey Sonia, quick talking about putting things in Janette's butt, i don't care at this point. But i'm looking forward to book 3 though. Not with eager anticipation or anything, but i'll definitely check it out at some point.
