What if all those fairy tales you learned as a child were true, with a twist? Turns out, the land of Ever After also has a dark underbelly of evil that’s always trying to break out.
We would need a hero with a little firepower.
This is a different kind of bedtime story about a fairy godmother named Charlotte. She’s not into changing pumpkins into carriages or granting wishes. There are no glass slippers or mice growing into coachmen.
This fairy carries a Glock 42 as an added accessory with her wand. It also packs a punch. Her job is to cover part of the realm of Ever After and keep it safe.
But something’s gone wrong.
Charlotte has been stranded in Cincinnati, Ohio. She’s not alone. Worse, she’s lost her handbook with all the spells.
An evil Prince bent on revenge, a Snow Queen with plans of her own, and a local detective trying to figure out what happened, are all on the same collision course. Where’s the Fairy Godmother Handbook? Find the book, control the end of this fairytale.
Will anyone ever live happily in Ever After? Or is Cincinnati the place where dreams can really come true?
Okay, I'm a late bloomer who's a big DC comics fan and spent my childhood summers on the Jersey shore but I was born under a wandering star and have lived in different parts of America ever since. That's enough about me. Need to feel inspired today? Looking for something to make you root for an ordinary hero? I'm all about that in everything I write.
I love a good tale that makes me wonder about things and I love a story even more that leaves me feeling inspired or like I'm capable of doing more than I realized. That's my goal with everything I've ever written. Some of the stories I tell involve twisting, turning thrillers and others have a lot of magic.
There's something to be said for getting lost in another world and coming out the other side feeling a little better about yourself or the possibilities in front of you. That's basically the best part of life in a nutshell, no matter what kind of story I'm setting out to tell.
I gave it 4 stars because it's got a good premise for the storyline - but I had to knock 1 star off, because it's not quite all there, yet. At least, not for me, anyway.
The flow of the story is still a bit bumpy, and I'm very much hoping that this improves as the series goes on, as I do like the idea of a realm called EverAfter, where fairytale characters live,
One of those characters, a Fairy Godmother called Charlotte, gets dragged through a Portal, which takes her from EverAfter, to the City of Cincinnati, where she immediately gets involved in trying to stop a plot against humanity, made by some evil fairytale characters who had also been drawn through a Portal to Earth .
Trouble is, the plot is driven, in the main, by Prince Repel, the brother of Prince Charming. Repel had been exiled from EverAfter, due to plotting the death of his brother, & the takeover of his Princedom.
But Charlotte has another big problem. The Fairy Godmother Handbook, given to her when she passed all of the tests to become one, got torn from her hands, and its pages torn from the book, as she was pushed through the Portal.
That Handbook is vitally important for the Magic that Charlotte uses and, until she can find all its parts, and join them together again, then she's at a disadvantage fighting Repel and his minions.
But Charlotte soon gets joined by a group of disparate people, and it's they who will help her find what she needs!
I enjoyed the book, but not to the extent that I usually do for an Anderle/Carr series so, as I said at the beginning, I'm hoping that it will smooth out into their usually excellent work as the series goes along, as I do have the whole series to read.
So, I'll now go on to Book Two: ' Spells, Wishes, & Quests', to start reading it then, once it's done, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think of it!
This had to be one of the most ridiculous books I've ever read. Each page just got more and more ridiculous. I even Nickmaned this series Riddikulus because of it. Making fun of this book and the laughs because of just how ridiculous it was is what kept it going. I can't take it seriously and it honestly feels like the authors did not either.
All of that being said, it was fun just for the crazy. I couldn't put it down just because I wanted to see how out there it got. However, I feel like there are a lot of world-building plot holes. And big ones. I would only recommend if you want to laugh at absurdity.
Charlotte is a fairy godmother from Ever After who gets pulled into Cincinnati and from there picks up allies along the way. She and her new friends have to fight their way through henchmen as they try to figure out what is happening and why they got pulled to earth. I really enjoyed this book, it has lots of fun characters and a different concept. It has fairy tales mixed with modern day and I liked the way they are meshed together. I am looking forward to more stories in this series.
Congratulations to Martha Carr and Michael Anderle for this amazing series. It’s extremely hard to find such intexresting and exciting authors who not only write intelligently but also provide top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories. I’m really looking forward to the next book.
