A selfish young woman whose hunger drives her into the claws of a vengeful beast.
An orphaned boy who uncovers a terrifying truth while trying to survive in London’s gutters.
And two sisters who come together to fight an ancient demon, but time is not on their side.
Three familiar tales from childhood, each with a dreadful twist and a horrifying ending that will make you shiver. These are not the fairy tales you remember, but they will be the renderings you never forget.
Brooke takes some of your well known childhood stories and adds a horror element to it. I really enjoyed these and I think it brought a refreshing insight to these childhood classics.
You already know going into any horror novel that there will not be a happy ending, yet you still find yourself hoping. I liked all three of the retellings, BUT I hated how short they were!! They were so good, I just wanted more.

Caytlyn sure has a knack for twisting fairytales! Her novella, The Baker's Wife, turned the tale of the Gingerbread Man on its head in a delightfully spicy way. Now, this book with it's three shorter pieces turns our comfortable childhood stories into the stuff of nightmares! Several points made me cringe, and that's hard to do considering I write supernatural horror! I'd definitely recommend this for a disturbing read. (*Evil Laugh*)
There’s no better feeling in the world than when I start to wonder about an author’s mental well being because that’s a sign of horror done well. Each story in this book made that feeling grow.
The basics of the original tales remains but the author took the history behind the origins of these stories and gave them delightful and twisted new outcomes.
You come to care for the characters even in the short amount of time you know them, which makes the horror all that much more compelling. You’ll recoil and cover your eyes in the best ways.
So, go ahead, take a muffin from the man on Drury Lane. After all, it’s just a story…right?
3 short stories, sinister retellings of our favorite nursery rhymes. Evil and deadly things happened to young children. Read trigger warning before reading.
