Another classic revisited. Published in 1970 by Simon & Schuster, this used to be one of my favorite books to share each spring during my Rabbit-themed Storytime. I liked it so much that I enlarged Kraus' illustrations to share it kamishibai-style (as pictures in front of me).

After Mrs. Long Ears abandons her family of 32 bunnies and their father, Daddy Long Ears assumed all of the duties of both Mother and Father - doing the laundry, cooking, child-rearing, and celebrating holidays.

Reading it through today's lenses and sensibilities, it might not be a first choice by everyone. There is a feeling of sexism at times (depicting Daddy Long Ears with an apron cooking and scrubbing clothes with a washboard) and very direct images of several holidays (Halloween, Christmas, and Easter, with the last line being the punch line of the story).

Recommended for K-grade 2.
