Escaping Midas

Rate this book
The plan never should have worked. Jared and the others never should have gotten out of Midas’s prison. But it did work. Her friends escaped. But Katie did not. Alone and afraid, Katie is tossed into another of Midas’s hell holes, but if the last one was bad, this one is worse. Here, the kids have no plan of survival, no system to support their weaker members. It’s survival of the fittest, plain and simple. Just when she was getting used to the Watcher’s cruelty, she learns how much evil can reside in the hearts of her fellow prisoners. Katie’s life now hangs in the balance, and so does the fate of everyone else.

Loved this! So dark and gritty, with the characters from Surviving Midas doing all they can to fight him. There are a lot of strong themes in this book, including trigger warnings of abuse, rape, kidnap, miscarriage and stillborn births, but these topics are handled in an authentic way that is honest and not glamorised, but given directly to the reader. A very sad series at times, but great characters with great relationships. That ending left me wanting book 3 immediately! Give it to me. 🤣

I just finished this book and am literally shaking. And speechless. When is the next one coming out?

The characters Jared (Goldie) and Katie in the first book, Surviving Midas, had won me over with their courage and cleverness. Both of those traits shine through again in this second installment. Along with grit, empathy, and honor. And the more I loved these characters, the more I hated the villains. Every time I thought the camp kids were going to be okay, the Watchers delivered a more brutal blow. There was more death in this one than the last, a little more edge, maybe more violence, but still appropriate for its audience. And by the way -- this is targeted to the young adult audience. Readers, I am not young. I am 50, and I still enjoyed this immensely.

What a roller coaster of emotions this book put me through. This author knows exactly how to build up suspense and keep readers at the edge of their seats. I will definitely be reading the rest of this series as soon as they come out.

I've had problems in the past getting this site to accept me as the author of my books. I think that is because I've been working with an independent publisher rather than self-publishing, so the person controlling the Amazon page is not me. But this is, in fact, my book. I am the RW that you are seeking.
And I liked writing the book, so sure! 5 stars! :D

Oh my gosh, that ending had me! I need book three NOW! The book is gripping, realistic, and shows sides to our world we don’t usually see. The characters had me at the first book, and now I am truly invested in them.
