Caged and at the mercy of an extraterrestrial giant, all hope had begun to drain away. Until a flash of silver in the far corner caught my eye. A flicker of movement, a mere whisper of presence. He was there, the one who had gotten away. A silver specter seamlessly melding into the shadows.
A tremor raced down my spine, not from fear, but something else entirely. My heart pounded in my chest, each beat a resounding anthem of burgeoning optimism.
Piercing the darkness, his gaze held mine, and a silent message was spoken through my terror, Not you. Never you.
As he retreated into the shadows, I absently rubbed a circle over the odd tug pressing against my sternum. Did I dare entertain the flicker of hope for an escape, or would he abandon me to suffer the same brutal demise as the one before me?
Raven wished for adventure to escape the drudgery of her life. Barely eking out a living, she was not prepared for an alien abduction. Slated to be a giant aliens next meal, she and others are rescued by a silver shadow who turns out to be her mate. It was sweet and instant for them both. I loved the story but hated for it to end.
This book has a very Gulliver's Travels feel to it. As indicated by the description, our alien and human main characters wake up in a world of giants, and the escape and escapades that follow. Now, to note this is the shortest series in the book, or rather it matches the shortest series in the book, Silver Silence, at only 188 pages. It does lack a lot of world building, so this one really can't be used as a standalone as it spends a lot of time referencing back to characters and events in the previous books. Which is understandable to a point, when you are 13 books into a series, how much world building can you really do without retelling the whole thing over again, and the MMC has not been on his home world since before the events of book one, Silver Savage. That being said, I did enjoy it, but it felt super short to me. As usual, many lose ends were tie up at the end, but it left me feeling kind of blasé about the whole situation. There were no moments in this story that really gave me emotional feels. The writing was, as always with Iona Strom, very well done, but I just didn't feel very much for the characters. The FMC seems fairly flat and 2 dimensional and I am not just talking about her hair. I didn't even really feel trauma for her, yes she had it, waking up in a cage about to be eaten is gonna give anybody a bad day, but I just didn't feel it. The same goes for the MMC, while he wakes up stuck in said cage, about to be devoured, I get no real sense of urgency.
So, only 3 stars really for world building, and 3 for character development, spice was nice enough with a medium slow burn, so 3 peppers for that. What really raised the score for me was the continuation of the story as a whole, so 5 stars there, as we near the end and find out more about what is going on with the original cast and crew. Probably a 4 for storytelling, as there were a few areas that I had to reread a couple of times to get the gist of, but that might be more of my own issue than anyone else's. While I cannot recommend this story as a standalone, I would highly suggest it as part of the Warriors of Valose Saga, as it helps with the overarching narrative of that one, and particularly to wrap up book 12. So, if you are already a fan, go check it out, if you are not yet a fan, start with Silver Savage, and there are a fair amount of crossovers, but you will get back here eventually.
This was a fabulous book and I loved all the character involved and how they had to work together so save each other from being the Giants next meal. Raven White is a human female that works at the Gas N Go and longs for adventure and more out of life until she wakes up in a caged with others and some she isn’t sure what they are and then there is the sexy as sin silver and blue elf looking guy who every time she looks at him she gets a slight burning in the middle of her chest but thinks nothing more of it then she meets another human Haley Stewart who is looking around and is just as scared as she is with all the other weird things in the cage with then. Kyrran is a Valose Fledgling Warrior from Clan Huren who has being taken from his home by the Gray man and has just woken up in a cage with others aliens but when his eyes come upon the gorgeous female his Ancillary heart starts to beat just for her and he instantly knows she is his fated mate and will protect her with his life. Then a Giant comes and opens the cage to take his female away and he attacks his hand with the help of Gunnox from clan Trisess and he ends up pulling me out of the cage throwing me away as i hit the wall and grabs another from the cage instead then proceeds to cook the alien alive in front of them all and he knows they must escape or end up being eaten. Raven is shocked that the silver and blue guy with the other one male jumped into save they from the Giant which was lucky or they would have been his next meal and now she hopes he is alright after he was thrown out of the cage and when she see’s him she knows he is going to save them all. Not that they have mated and matching shawra’s they can give each strength support and love and Raven has never been more happier in her life and is looking forward to a new life with Kyrran and hopes his people will like her. Now after escaping they need to get home to Valose but there are deals to save others along the way that have been made for there safe passage so with all 19 safely landing on Valose to a welcome with all the clans joining as one and it was a sight that took the 3 Valose warriors by surprise just to see it. There is so much more to the amazing book that will have the reader inthralled and glued to the pages.
Once again, I was catapulted back into Ms Strom's fantastic Warriors of Valose saga... a series which has become one of my all time favourites.
Caged along with several other curious beings - including Kyrran, a massive silver alien who was kidnapped by Gretolics, Raven realises her life hangs on the whim of a giant's taste buds.
Escape seems impossible, but Kyrran, a Warrior of Valose, refuses to surrender to his fate. What follows is a rip-roaring, edge of your teeth adventure, as Raven, Kyrran, and their fellow captives negotiate a multitude of challenges in their bid for freedom.
An immediate attraction smoulders between human and alien... but what of it? Raven and her Silver Shadow come from vastly different worlds - their deepening, although undeniable, connection might not be enough.
Action, adventure, drama passion, intrigue... what's not to love? This story does not slow down from page one to the last word. Ms Strom is an extraordinarily talented writer, weaving stories so eloquently, you are immediately immersed in the worlds she has created.
Highly recommended... but be aware... this is part of a saga. To understand the nuances within Silver Shadow, you need to read the previous books of the series in the correct order.
The Warriors of Valose is hands down my favorite Sci-fi series and I loved diving back into their world once again. Ms. Strom has a knack for spinning a tale like no other.
Whether human or alien, opposites attract and Raven and Kyrran are no exception to the rule. But that's on hold, while everyone who was locked inside that cage, plans their escape. Will they earn their freedom or will they be trapped forever? Silver Shadow is brimming with adventure, action and tons of passion.
I highly recommend Silver Shadow for all lovers of steamy sci-fi romance.
A great sci-fi romance. I love how the Valose warriors are finding their way home but also finding that one female meant for them. This one also brings us to an all new world where we are the bite sized snacks for some very large giants. As a team our warrior and the female he is fastly falling for work with others to save everyone. Plenty of danger and a build up of romance as there may also be sparks flying with some of the others.
Okay so I read all thirteen so far, waiting for fourteen July 1, 2024. This number 13 was as great as the others and a little reminiscent of Jack and the beanstalk only with giant aliens. Can’t wait for the next adventures with Gunner, Tryt, Ruze, and Nara to locate their people who were captured by the Gretolics.
This series has been the best I've read in a very long time. The author has a way of working characters from previous books into each of the newer ones. It's enough of a connection to make each new book an excitement to read. I can hardly wait to read each new book.
Kyrran and Raven's story was quite an adventure. From a world full of giants all the way back to Valose. Along the way out was great to see so many of the old friends along the way!
It seems to be all coming together now, more so with each new book! Valose and its inhabitants are mixing with other aliens plus Earth females to become one big melting pot just like the US with all different ethnicities.
