Hawk's Woman

Rate this book
The stigma of being a half-breed in 1885 Texas has made Hawk accustomed to public ridicule. Everyone in town shunned him -- except for sweet and beautiful Abby McCormick who had befriended Hawk since they were children. Their tender friendship exploding in a passion neither can resist, Abby and Hawk must keep their feelings for each other a secret if they do not want their forbidden love to be discovered. Then one night, as Hawk is returning home after seeing Abby, he is ambushed, beaten and left for dead.
Four years have passed, and Hawk is back. Believing Abby's father is responsible for the attack on him, Hawk vows revenge on the rancher who shattered his life. He returns to the Circle M ranch to claim it for his own. But, instead of the heated challenge of his nemesis, he finds a broken man and a secret that may jeopardize his love for Abby. Soon Hawk and Abby are plunged into a test of courage as past and present collide in a fury of danger and desire....

Good story

I loved this story and would have given it 5 stars, but I had two big problems with this book. The first problem I had with the story was the fact that Hawk behaved horribly when he found out that Abby "married" after Hawk "died". He kept saying it was a betrayal of their love, yet it never once came up that Hawk slept with several whores while he was gone. I found this to be so hypocritical. Was she supposed to stay chaste for a dead man while it was perfectly acceptable for him to betray her just to "relieve his ache"?

The second problem I had with this book was the fact that the truth didn't come out until over half way through the book. It took way too long for them to stop all the lies and just be honest with each other.

A great story. Young love turns to tragedy when he is nearly killed and she is left pregnant. She believes him to be dead. A four year separation changes him and he now seeks revenge. HEA ending.
I've read this book several times now and it still holds my interest. I really feel for him being a half breed. Back in those days you were treated as the lowest form of people around. He tried his hardest to be acknowledged by others and especially by his white father. Only the love of a small child that grow up with him taught him that there is love and people do care.
