Hi! Welcome to my Goodreads. Can I just say I'm so happy you're here? I don't know if you're here for funzies or for a paper you have to write or maybe a theory video or article you're working on. Either way, thanks for coming, and let's get into the nitty-gritty.
I've been writing since I was ten years old. I wrote my first 700+ book when I was eleven. I started these games as almost fan fiction that morphed into the Custod world I use for most of my stories today.
I specialize in fairytale retellings in more dramatic than fantastical styles, dealing with more political or the struggle of war angles than in pure wonder, but I make sure to have a healthy (whoops too much) dose of romantic and hopeful elements as well. I feel stories should help us learn about relationships, people, the world around us, and teach us hope in how to handle the horrors life can dish out in a healthy, enjoyable escapist type of way. That's why I like young adult styles because it allows more exploration of learning than adult styles.
Some of my favorite books include Harry Potter, The Selection, Michael Vey, Lord of the Rings, Hunger Games, and lots more, but that should give you a feel for the styles I like. I'm also into classics like Shakespeare, The Count of Monte Cristo, The Phantom of the Opera, The Scarlet Pimpernel, and Lord of the Rings (as hey it's a classic too). I struggled with reading as a child. I loved it but found it hard so audiobooks were my main way of stepping into new worlds. Still an audiobook fan!
I wrote my first book, the rough version of Rising during my teen years, and published it while in college. It has since been republished and revamped as The Custod Chronicles Rising. I had plenty of time to learn my craft because I was homeschooled and so integrated my passion for writing with my studies. I graduated from Brigham Young University - Idaho with a degree in Media Marketing with a minor in English to help further my writing dreams.
I currently live in Weed, CA where I write most every day, watch lots of YouTube and movies, enjoy going to a musical now and then, and hone my passion for ballroom dancing. To learn more check out some of my blogs, and social media pages, or if you have a question about a theory or paper you're working on, shoot me a message and I'll get back to you asap.
Okay, this review will have major spoilers, because I have feelings.
Where to begin? Okay, I only gave it four stars because the grammar errors have continued, and I was unbelievably frustrated with Kascia in the last hundred or so pages!!! Damian and Gavril are so sure about her and she just cannot believe them that she is the one and her past doesn't matter! I wished there had been somewhere there to slap her and tell her to stop feeling sorry for herself. If that was Mae's intention, to make the reader feel that way, she far outdid herself 😂
The ending where her doubt is what is killing Gavril was therefore extremely poetic. She either had to stop saying no or let him die. Glad she chose the former. I found the twist about Cedrick and Damian very satisfying, as it answered so many questions about the mystery of the Enthronement. I only realized at the end of this book that the other series about the Custods exist, which might have made that plot twist about Cedrick being the Merlin less surprising, so I'm actually glad I wasn't aware til now.
I was also glad to see the obvious bad choices of girls weeded out long before the ending. To my surprise, I ended up appreciating the transformation of Rose the most. She was so cold in the beginning, but by the end I really felt like she'd gained a heart and humility.
Gavril has proven himself too good for words ❤️ He's adorable and strong and amazingly transformed from the beginning. I was relieved that apart from the first fight about Jake, Gavril didn't lose his temper with Kascia like he had previously. Maybe that added to my frustration with her, as he seemed to be really trying, and she was constantly unsure. I want insights into his and Kascia's marriage, although, I hope it stays at the closed door level. The kisses did push it pretty hard in this book, especially when Kascia was remembering how it was with Jake.
Like its predecessors, this book had me in a mad dash to find out what would happen. I hope the pacing of the finale is a little less intense, maybe more slices of life that won't get ruined by the knowledge that the Enthronement is still happening. I desperately want there to be a baby in book 5, just so I can see Gavril as a dad 🥹🥹🥹

‘Royal life is always politics’ Seems like Damian’s life at this point is nothing but putting out a series of fires in between fiery kisses.
This journey hasn’t all been dressing up, dining, and dancing. These young women deal daily with competition for the same man, envy & jealousy, fear of failure, media exposure, nastiness, political intrigue, and societal expectations. There’s something to be said about going through situations together and sharing the frustratations of their predicament: ‘…warm bond of sisterhood’ ‘This is my Enthronement cast; these are my sisters in this struggle.’
One of the ways that these gals manage their dilemma is figuring out how to shut down dissent amongst themselves. Here, I differ from the chosen approach. ‘We’re all in this together’ doesn’t mean we have to put up with someone’s rudeness. Pretending to “be friends” is a form of enabling and is disrespectful to those wronged. Group unity is coming together to set and enforce boundaries. And yes, if the person causing trouble doesn’t comply, then he or she *should* leave the room!
Some other great relationship topics found within these pages: ‘I don’t get to hurt others just because I was hurt.’ ‘Sometimes, you have to let it out before you can let it go.’
Don’t ever be afraid to shine!
Totally looking forward to more intrigue and secrets in the next book.
For this book and the series overall, I rate it 3.5 stars. I respect all the elements the author was trying to bring in but it just seemed like a lot out of nowhere in this final book. Also, the wordiness seemed to reach an all time high in book 4 as well. I admit I rolled my eyes a time or 2 when literally during the same conversation, Kascia would repeat herself numerous times. It just felt very tedious. I'm unsure if I will read book 5 when it releases.
This book is epic! The power struggle, the swoony romance, and that ending! I'll spoil it if I go on. Just read this, trust me. If you like royalty romance this is a must read. 100%. I received an advanced reader copy.
Good to finally find out the winner of the Enthronement, so much drama getting to the outcome. I read it very fast, just had to know what was happening.
