NYPD: Laughing In The Line Of Duty

Rate this book
Life as a New York City police officer is nothing like what you see on television. Of course, it can be fast-paced and action-packed. But unlike the soy boys you see running around with fake guns on the silver screen, NYPD cops are responsible for their actions. Crash a car, lose a prisoner, or get mouthy with the wrong supervisor, and there will be consequences.

The penalties are severe and designed to make you think twice before stepping out of line. Suspension to the loss of vacation days, you can also find yourself working in another borough. The NYPD is well stocked with an army of bureaucratic sycophants who do the department’s bidding. After a while, you realize you’re a cog in a machine that views you as disposable. A hero one day, a goat the next; you can never train enough for a job that can kill you.

Lazy coworkers, combative criminals, and a close call with an HIV infection can make you think twice about your career choice. To survive in this chaotic environment, you have to be able to laugh in the line of duty.

Would you believe a dead man’s unclaimed remains made daily stops at a kosher deli before an unconventional burial on a forgotten island?

Did you know it’s easier to steal a car with a pen than a screwdriver?

Find out what happened when the mounted cops’ horse unexpectedly died behind a Hell’s Kitchen bar.

How about the homeless detective that never slept in the same bed twice?

Learn why you should never trust an idiot with a bullhorn, and much more!

Retired NYPD detective Vic Ferrari takes no prisoners, revealing the humorous and hypocritical side of the New York City Police Department.

If you enjoy true crime or have a sense of humor, you will enjoy NYPD Laughing in the Line of Duty!

Vic Ferrari is a retired twenty-year veteran of the
New York City police department. A Bronx resident for over 40 years he now splits his time between sunny Florida and his timeshare in North Korea. He lives with his Irish Wolfhound puppy Dougal who follows him everywhere, including the bathroom. He enjoys writing, cooking, and managing a coed softball team filled with unhappy complaining miscreants. This summer he fulfilled his childhood dream of throwing out the first pitch of a minor league baseball game under an assumed name.

Very entertaining book. I’ve read a few of the other ones also.
Thanks for telling about Sheriff Grady Judd.
I’m a former Fl deputy sheriff of 6 years. Like some of your classmates, I too left for a better paying job. (Airline pilot.)

entertaining look behind-the-scenes by a retired NYPD officer

This is an entertaining and intriguing look behind-the-scenes of the NYPD by retired NYPD officer. Entertaining stories a few harrowing experiences and just outright craziness. Look at how bureaucracy ties the hands of the police officers at times as well as all the craziness that goes along with it

A commendation for a great read.

Here is a book that tells it like it is. Police work is never just about what it is portrayed to be on tv or the movies. Vic tells a story and it pulls you right in. The stories really are so good you would swear they were made up ....... But were not. This was my first book and I loved it! Now onto the next one!

Having just retired after 39 years as a police dispatcher, I very much appreciated the humor in this book. I blew Diet Coke out of my nose reading about Lt Illuminati. Fabulous nickname! My favorite quote of the book was “I miss the clowns, but not the circus.” Yup.

Everyone is the hero in their own book, but apparently this author is the only decent NYPD cop who ever walked a beat. Full of shit, full of himself and full of moderately interesting and not very funny stories.

Not funny.

I believed the title of this book to be humorous. It was not. Most of this book included sarcasm and contempt for others.
