Start with the basics and work from the ground up! Okum's take in this "How to" book are prime for beginners wanting to learn how to tell a good tale using the comic book format, no matter the age of the creator and desired audience.
The characters he depicts as examples are kid-friendly, but could easily lend to more adult stories if imagination is set on go! I found it refreshing going back to the simpler archetypes of character building, and nice to get back in the game using the simplified drawing techniques and forms, similar to modern simplified animation of modern toons.
I also found it freeing doing some fan fiction written stories, as well as quick thumbnail comics using his characters and pointers. This book is like the gateway into making comics for those just getting started, providing the basic tools to get the creator into a comfortable head-space.
