For Coven's Sake

Rate this book
YA Witchy, Cozy, Urban Fantasy Novella (bonus spicy scene available)

Life was looking up for Aurora. She started college, joined a coven, found a witching mentor, and even got a job. A job she’s apparently not that good at, as made evident by her selling a priceless magical soulmate-finding amulet to the hot grandson of a known witch hunter. Time is against her as she only has a few days until the end of Halloween to get the amulet back before it releases magic out into the normie world and exposes her coven. The only way to get it back is by spending copious amounts of time with Finn, which she soon finds she doesn’t mind doing at all.

Will she be able to retrieve the amulet in time?

And will she find love along the way?

AHHHHHHHH! This was so good! The hand necklace ❤️‍🔥🫠🪦 I am flustered!!!!!!! This is so cute but in a more grown up version than the author’s other witchy book Bubble bubble toil and cuddle which is more YA. I really enjoyed this. For a short story it had a surprising amount of stuff happening. It was the perfect amount of interesting without making things too complicated. Rory’s mind is an entertaining place to live and I am loving it! Congrats on a story well freaking donnnneee. Witchy gilmore girl vibes 🫶🏼

A wonderful, super short read. I enjoyed the Halloween vibes, the witchy atmosphere of Salem and I especially enjoyed how simplistic this story is. Perfect quick read to get in the autumn mood! I would like to warn future readers that this book reads like a teenage girl wrote it: filled with clichés and simple writing, but if you like that or could use a quick read to undo a reading slump then this is for you! :)

Nice little novella. A great quick read when you don’t know what to read next. I have it 3 instead of 4 because I wish it was longer. I hope the author writes a novel that incorporates these characters.

I love the cozy autumn and Halloween vibes in this book—it’s perfect for those who want an easy, simple, and cozy read. The writing is straightforward and really easy to follow, which makes it very enjoyable.

Aurora is quite a character! I like her and understand some of her struggles, but at times I thought, “Girl, what was all that?” Finn seemed a bit suspicious to me at first, but wow, he’s clearly willing to do anything for her, and I loved that. I’m usually not a fan of insta-love, but here it felt cute and fit the overall vibe perfectly.

All in all, I’d definitely recommend it as a great autumn read!

Gillian : auroras best friend
Finnick Bronson : MMC
Aurora Delacour: FMC, works at the apothecary
Margo: auroras boss and witch mentor

I’m trying to remember if I should know any of these characters from the other books but we do know that Aurora and Gillian had went to the Gabalter academy like Evie. Aurora runs into a handsome man on her way to class. He wants her number but she plays hard to get. He ends up being in her astronomy class. After that class he takes a call and leaves. While she’s at work at the apothecary he shows up and asks to buy a necklace and she doesn’t think anything of it and sells it to him. And ends up agreeing to a coffee date and gives him her #. And then Gillian is there and she’s giving her crap for going on a date with a human. Gillian is against mortals. Some witches just don’t like to mingle with mortals. And then Margo comes back and asks where her necklace is. She sold it to Finn. Margo tells her he comes from a line of witch hunters but he’s not aware of that and doesn’t have any opinion on this so it’s safe for her to go out with him and get Margo’s relic back. So she goes for coffee with Finn in the morning. She pauses time but doesn’t find the locket on him. He invites her to a party with his friends, anything but clothes. She wears a cute bubble wrap outfit. She ends up sitting on his lap and he still doesn’t have the locket so she goes home with him to watch a movie. When he gets tired she puts him to sleep and looks for the locket again but doesn’t find it. She ends up taking one of his hoodies. The bonus scene is that Finn never fell asleep and while watching the movie they had sex. It was a good scene! So back in the book Finn invites her to a ghoul hunt. In the book this is when they actually have their first kiss. She finds him and he distracts her by kissing her. He then tells her he wants her to be his date for the fall festival. He has the locket on but she can’t get it away from him. And then his grandpa is there and snatches the locket and calls her a witch. Finn goes to find his dad and she uses magic to get it back and wipe his memory but Finn saw it all. So she took his memory too or so she thought and then she left. He comes and sees her at the shop and says his grandpa is getting old and paranoid but says so you’re a witch huh. She admits to it. It’s not a crime to tell humans about witches if they can be trusted. He asks what the locket does and she says it’s supposed to show your soul mate and he asks to see it: he looks into it and then asks if she wants to go to the movies and she realizes this is why things felt this way between them. They are soul mates.

I read this on Halloween and it was the perfect Halloween quick read. I got some romance and the bonus scene had some spice. But I also got the cute town of Salem. And the witchy vibes. This was a super fun and cozy book. I really enjoyed it.

She says for covens sake throughout the book and he had joked that she sounded like she’s from Salem like he is. So I think it’s just a catchy and cute title. Like for covens sake will I ever get that locket back😂

What can I say? S you have blown it out of the water...again!!! If you are a lover of Halloween Town and Sabrina this is the book for you. It is whimsical, magical, funny, romantic and so much more. The writing and world-building is flawless (like always) you feel as though you are a part of the story. You can smell the toffee apples, feel the wind bite at your cheeks and it something that I adore about all of Frasher's books. The relationships and characters in this book are some of my favourites, from witty banter to flirtation every sentence is perfection.

I have had the absolute pleasure of being both a beta and arc reader for this amazing author and let me tell you her books get better and better every time. No matter the genre you can guarantee that you are going to be reading something mind-blowing when it comes to Frasher's books. Do I wish this was a full novel? Yes! Do I love it as a novella? Also yes...but I need more. This novella has scratched an itch but I 100% need more. If you haven't read any of her books before you are seriously missing out!

This is an author you want to add to your auto-buy list, I can't wait to see what you write next!

This short book had a lot of potential, I'm a sucker for cozy and quirky books in a magical setting. There's just a huge plot hole of why couldn't Rory just ask for the locket back. Say that it was her boss's and she sold it to him by accident, which is the truth, and trade it with another locket. All this sneaking makes no sense.

The pre-teen of early 2000's curse words were annoying and I don't prefer to read books on where the main lead is just not that intelligent. It's rather annoying. There's some historic inaccuracy, most of the witches trials and hanging were done in Denvers, which was old Salem at the time. The current Salem is a different area. Some other errors like she ordered an apple cider and then Finn corrected the barista and said Rory wanted oatmilk and not almond milk. If it's not an apple cider late, you don't add milk.

I did enjoy it at some points, it just needed a good editor to get it there.

This was the perfect short read to kick off spooky season. The writer has a strong sense of voice and so you won’t find a lot of the repetitive phrasing that can some times plague the books of some genres. The story itself is sweet and spicy. Is that a cliche? Absolutely. Maybe I should say cozy and crackling? Regardless, it’s true. The main plot device makes sense without causing too much angst. The chemistry between her two leads, Finn and Aurora, is so good. There are thoughtful details shown through their actions that do a lot to flesh out the characters in this shorter format. The one thing I wished was that I had a little more context to this world, but there is a previous book set in the same universe. I feel like if I read that it would answer some of my other questions and I as a reader who had read both, I would appreciate the lack of unnecessary repetition.

This book fits squarely within my definition of bubble gum read. Low stakes, funny characters, comical situations. You can read it as a palette cleanser or as something to get you in the fall mood.

For Coven's Sake is about a college witch who accidentally sells a magical amulet to a human. The whole story is her attempting to get the amulet back without accidentally outing the whole witch population. It just so happens that the person she sold it to comes from a long line of witch hunters. It also just so happens that our he is absolutely smitten with her. He wants to spend more and more time with her while she's just trying to keep hidden, but she can't help falling for him herself.

The story is short and lighthearted. The characters will have you laughing and feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. I'd recommend to add to your fall tbr.

WARNING - SPOILERS AHEAD

Cute! I wasn't expecting this to be a novella, let alone so short, but it was cute! I think overall it could benefit from a couple more pages, just because it moved SO quickly, it was easy to get lost with what they were doing. I love witches and all things witchy, so it was definitely up my alley, but I wish it was played into more. I know it was just a short love story with a bit of drama added, but I just wanted more! Like maybe... 100 pages total instead of 70.

I wanted more of Finn and Rory - and maybe I'll read more with the other novella's featuring them! Woot woot excited for more! Just wanted MORE of this singular story, that's all!

⭐⭐⭐⭐

I am ready for fall, and this novella gave me a little sprinkle of it to tide me over until September.

Aurora is a fun character to follow, and the world she’s in is even better. The concept of a university that serves both magical and non-magical people in Salem is just the kind of thing I like reading about. Something about the MMC Finn gave me Hardin from After vibes in a good way, and it was nice to read a story of this nature where there wasn’t a horrible third act twist. This was just a happy story with a bit of magic and mystery.

A cute and quick read. It was decent.
Yet, it wasn’t quite what I was expecting and I wanted more information. It also felt a bit “young”. I know weird to say when it’s classified as a YA novel but the beginning states they’re 22 years old… the writing and overall story felt more like freshmen in high school. It’s hard for me to explain and put into words my exact thoughts and feelings regarding this. 🤷🏼‍♀️

All the stars, every last star to this book. It's witchy, cozy, YA romance with the perfect Dorian reference. The only thing that could make me love this more is if it was longer. I need so much more of these two. Immediately running to read their spicy bonus scene and Valentine's Day novella.

“Wear whatever you want, Rory, I know how to fight.” I giggled like a little girl. This line is sooooo much better than, "Put something on, you're not going out like that"

Hollween, a witch, a normie, and a locket!! Cute, perfect vibes, fun little story!!

This was the first short story that I’ve ever read. I was very unsure whether to read it or not, cause I feel like there can’t be time for anything very exciting. But I read it and I liked it.
Of course it’s not a life changing story and you don’t identify with the characters that much because you don’t get to know them on a deeper level.
But it was entertaining, cute and sweet. Not usually my cup of tea, but it was kind of fun.

Very fast read, a cute little story. I didn't find it as deeply gripping as the book before it, but it was still just a cute little Halloween novella.

Cute read. I couldn't help but think that she could have just asked him. It would have been more exciting, but the story itself is cosy, short and good.

Meh

All she had to do was say she sold him the necklace by mistake. Book over. Problem solved. Dumb. 80% of this was completely unnecessary.
