2015년 4월 연재 시작, 편마다 1만여 건 이상의 댓글이 달리며 화제를 몰고 다니는 네이버 인기 웹툰 『유미의 세포들』이 예담에서 단행본으로 출간되었다. 『유미의 세포들』은 삼십 대 초반 여성 직장인 유미의 연애와 일상을 그녀의 세포들을 통해 세밀하고 담백하게 표현해낸 작품으로 유미의 머릿속에서 이성, 감성, 식욕, 패션 센스, 사랑 등 다양한 감정과 욕망을 담당하는 세포들이 어떤 방식으로 행동과 생각을 결정하는지를 그리고 있다. 누구나 한 번쯤 겪어봤을 법한 평범한 일들을 디테일한 관찰로 녹여낸 이 작품은 그 특유의 만화적 재미를 인정받아 2016년 ‘오늘의 우리 만화’를 수상하기도 했다. 때로는 유쾌하고 때로는 뭉클하게 우리의 일상을 그려내는 이동건 작가의 『유미의 세포들』6권을 만나보자.

Oh I totally sound like a broken record at this point but I'm really enjoying this, particularly seeing the cells — everything is just so relatable.

It's difficult to track which volumes cover which chapters, so I'm basing this review on the cover, when Babi and Yumi begin to get close as Woong and her subconsciously drift apart. It was difficult reading Woong and Yumi's fights and issues, as they were a sweet couple to passionately root for. However, their break-up scene is emotionally brutal to read and the panels with their respective cells added to my frustration as a reader - they could have easily reconciled and rectified their previous issues if Woong's pride did not get in the way. Nonetheless, Yumi was always too good for Woong and since the Sia incident their relationship never quite felt the same.

Because Goodreads has no way to track reading Webtoons, I'm using this as a stand-in. I read the English translation online and not the original Korean (just to be clear). I absolutely loved this entire Webtoon! Everything about it was so wonderful. It's heartfelt, funny, and romantic.
