A novel set in the 19th century, of how a mother and her daughter struggled to learn the secrets of medicine and of the injustice done to them by men who claimed they were witches.
I'm a sucker for witch fiction. This was underwhelming, poorly written and it just didn't make me care about the characters at all. Won't complain too much more as it was a chairty shop find for €1 but I wouldn't recommend you rush out and buy it.
I read this book the summer before middle school and loved it. I don't know what I'd think of it right now and I don't think I'm gonna reread, I wanna keep that original feeling close to me forever. Probably one of the first books I fell for.
The gothic novel i have been reading is called She Was A Witch. Many threats to the self are brought up during the novel making it very enjoyable to read. Fears of Loneliness, sickness, the unknown, being chased, slavery, loss of a loved one, death, the law and power but the main fear in my novel is male domination. The gothic paradox - the outside is the inside is used quiet often. The main character's feeling and fears are mainly described in the landscape around her.
