Descended from the mighty Somerled, Lord of the Isles, Steinar MacDougall’s supremacy over the seas is fierce. On a quest for King William, he is captured by the enemy and presented with a favorable opportunity. Yet Steinar soon realizes his greatest threat comes from the woman who hides behind the mask of a warrior, and the quest for control might send them hurdling into the abyss of the sea.
As leader of the Serpents, Inga the Ruthless travels beyond the isles bartering for goods with her brothers. After rescuing the feared Pirate Wolf during a storm, she surrenders her trust to the man and his inner wolf in order to claim the lost treasure of Odin. Though the journey is fraught with dangers, Inga fears her heart might be the one in peril, leading her to make the ultimate sacrifice.
Will the sea be their salvation or doom them to a watery grave?

From my first introduction to the Wolves of Clan Sutherland with Magnar, I've been intrigued by each of their stories. I was sure I couldn't enjoy Rorik as much as I did Magnar, and opened this book thinking I couldn't possibly enjoy Steinar as much as Rorik or Magnar. But I did. The author makes such a distinction between each of these warriors, letting their individual stories emerge.
Steinar's story begins on the ocean. Though he be part wolf, he loves the sea and is known as the Pirate Wolf. What happens as the story opens left me gasping. Could the sea be so cruel as to swallow him up? Then a daring rescue places him on the ship of enemies, the vicious Serpents. All of the different aspects of this story are woven together like a spider weaves its web. We meet many characters and each plays a part in the unfolding plot.
When Inga the Ruthless makes a request that Steinar lead her ship to a mystical island to recover the God, Odin's hidden treasure, he scoffs. Yet, he finds himself agreeing even though the wolf inside growls.
As the journey progresses, neither Inga nor Steinar can deny or ignore an unlikely attraction. Theirs is an impossible love. Yet, love knows no bounds.
There is magic and deeply buried secrets revealed in this story. There is ecstasy as they explore new love, then complete heartbreak when they are torn apart, separated by the Goddess of the Sea, Ran. I jumped for joy when Magnar, Rorik, and Gunnar showed up to assist their brother. Their bond is strong, deep, and binding, as is the love between Inga and Steinar.
As with each book in this series, I turned the last page and closed it with a sigh. What a journey! If you are a fan of magical, paranormal, romantic fiction set in the 1200s, I highly recommend every book in this series. You will fall in love with the Wolves of the Clan Sutherland as I did. Fantastic storytelling from Mary Morgan!
During a storm at sea, Steinar, known as The Pirate Wolf, falls overboard and is being pulled to his death by the siren's song of a Sea Goddess' monster. When an unknown siren bargains for his life, he finds himself rescued from a watery death by his enemy and pulled aboard The Serpent’s ship. Inga the Ruthless, leader of the Serpents, presents Steinar with an opportunity to win his freedom, if he'll agree to assist her and her men on a quest for a secret treasure on a magical hidden island. Steinar and his wolf are drawn to Inga; and unlike others, Inga is unafraid of his beast. The two strong sea captains set off on an adventurous quest fraught with past conflicts, fatal betrayals, blossoming love, and the possible wraths of a God and Goddess.
“Steinar” is a stormy seafaring, island hopping saga! Providing readers with a tempestuous yet playful attraction, Steinar and Inga come together with burgeoning passions and a fate defying love as they learn to open their shielded hearts to trust one another. The Serpent Brothers and The Pirate Wolf’s crewmen deliver the supportive and loyal traits every ship’s captain demands with hints of their own stories to tell. The twists and turns inherent when dealing with jealous, vengeful deities don't disappoint. A sweeping Viking Warrior’s tale, Mary Morgan's third mystical installment of The Wolves of Clan Sutherland reads as a standalone tale enticing readers to wonder about the first two as they yearn in anticipation for more to come
Another amazing story. I’ve been reading this authors books for years and I’ll tell you I’ve never been disappointed. This one was a real page turner. If you enjoyed historical fiction and hot Scottish man and strong willed lass you’ll enjoy this series. I’d start with book one. I truly believe you’ll fall in love with the characters and storyline.

What an exciting adventure back to my ancient Nordic-Celtic heritage. I'll never view a pirate the same again. This story has great characters who fill the pages with high flying adventure, drama and romance. I would recommend this third installment of The Wolves of Clan Sutherland.

For those readers who have been waiting anxiously for Mary Morgan’s latest book, wait no longer. Yes, it is available. And let me tell you, it is well worth the wait. Steinar the third book in The Wolves of Clan Sutherland series is exciting, page turning, and full of all a reader could want when it comes to alpha heroes and outspoken and strong heroines. Needless to say, Ms. Morgan has brought her two mesmerizing characters together in a scene you won’t forget and keeps them together as they journey on a quest for Inga. Yes, Inga is the heroine, you can’t help but love her, but loving her is not what Steinar MacDougall, the Pirate Wolf wants. He feels attraction toward the woman for saving his life but has duties that call him to be other places beside the deck of her ship. Despite his determination to keep his mind on business, Inga, warrior and leader of the Serpents, feared on the high seas by most, is a ravishing beauty. Her sharp tongue, and tempting lips affects Steinar in many ways. Inga the Ruthless is sister to the Olafsson Serpents and their leader. And she will not be cowed by the Pirate Wolf. Note even if he is most pleasing to her eye, and his bravery in spite of his situation is a welcomed trait. She needs this pirate to help guide her in fulfilling her quest of finding Odin’s treasure. `Tis the only reason she bargained for his life from the sea goddess. After agreeing to a deal, she is incensed that instead of the mystical island she thought they steered for is instead the Island of Islay. Now, she is forced to play the lady in front of Steiner’s uncle. A part that does have its own rewards. Although Steiner can bark orders like there was no tomorrow, his lips are soft when they take hers in a kiss. Inga must ponder on his attempts to woo her, even as she wonders if she should have let him drowned. The quest is indeed perilous, and the odds they must overcome are daunting. And just when you think all is rainbows and roses, Ms. Morgan throws a hiccup into Steiner’s and Inga’s plans that I never saw coming. Be prepared to have a box of tissues available when you read this latest gift from award winning paranormal and romance author Mary Morgan.
Steinar MacDougall's supremacy over the seas is fierce. On a quest for King William, he falls overboard and is captured by the enemy and presented with quite the opportunity. Yet Steinar comes to realize that the greatest threat comes from the woman who is hiding behind the mask of a warrior, and the quest for control just might end them both.
Inga the Ruthless is the leader of the serpents, and as their leader, she travels beyond the isles batering for goods with her brothers. After she rescues the feared Pirate Wolf from the frigid waters during a storm, she surrenders her trust to the man and his inner wolf in order to claim the lost treasure of Odin for her mother. Even though the journey is fraught with danger, Inga fears that her heart may be the one in peril, leading her to make the ultimate sacrifice.
Will they be able to keep their heads above water, or will they both sink to a watery grave?
Oh my gosh, what a book. Mary Morgan is absolutely phenomenal. I was hooked from the minute I picked this book up, and it didn't let me go until I was done. Steinar was strong and so brave. Inga blew my mind. This woman was perfect for Steinar because she was as crazy as he was. Inga is definitely one of my favorite heroines of all time. All in all, if you like historical romance that has the perfect amount of paranormal and romance, then this is the book you want. Ms. Morgan, you are exceptional, and I truly enjoyed this book.
Enjoy adventure on the high seas with the Pirate Wolf Steinar, one of the Scottish wolves of Clan Sutherland. When he's swept overboard in a storm, he thinks he's destined for Valhalla, but then Inga the Ruthless, sheildmaiden in charge of the Serpents crew rescues him from the sea and keeps him captive until he agrees to help find the treasure they're tasked with retrieving. On the way they pick up enemies both old and new in competition for the treasure. This is a story filled with adventure, intrigue, action, and steamy romance. It's #3 in this paranormal series, but can also be read as a standalone. It definitely reads like an exciting episode of Black Sails!

This is a 3 out of 5 stars for me. Three stars means this book did the job I hired it to do: it kept me entertained.
Paranormal romance with a hint of mystery and intrigue.
Even though this is the third book in the series it can be read as a stand alone book. I never felt lost or like I was missing a piece of information vital to this story that would have come from one of the others.
Steinar is a viking pirate captured by Inga and her brothers. Inga is the leader of her viking crew. She saves Steinar from the clutches of "Ursla the Sea Witch". High jinx ensue. About the time I was growing tired of Inga keeping her secret it was revealed, so thanks for not prolonging one of my least favorite tropes the miscommunication.
My one issue is it feels like their declaration of Love came out of left field. One minute they are on a treasure hunt then BOOM! I love yous all around.
Steinar by Mary Morgan is the next exciting book in the Wolves of Clan Sutherland Series. What a thrilling romantic read it was. The writing is vividly done! Alongside of the Pirate Wolf, Steinar MacDougall, I felt as if I could fell the ocean spray on my face too. He may be called a pirate but this man’s word was as good as any legal contract today. He is loyal, honest, fearless and a warrior to be reckon with. It is exactly the same way you could describe his counterpart, Inga, the Ruthless.
I love the strong women in this series. Yes, it is a man’s controlling world at this time in history but these women including Inga learn how to make it work for them without giving up their integrity or femininity despite the society in which they live. Then Steinar is a man who is drawn to the strength of Inga as well as her femininity. What a power couple they make!
The treasure hunting plot is fully developed with complex characters both the main and the supporting ones, intrigue, betrayal, danger from both nature and man, romantic relationship and the mystical that I have so loved in this series. A marvelous story for a winter’s night. I highly recommend Steinar.
The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book which I voluntarily chose to read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This magical tale gives us a powerful Pirate wolf. Steinar and the rest of the Brotherhood were gifted with the ability to shift into wolves by the God Odin. They are sworn to serve the King of Scotland. Our hero does this with his supremacy over the seas.
Inga the ruthless is a warrior in her own right and daughter of the Goddess of the Sea, Rán. Our heroine has her own quest to make , and after rescuing the man from a watery grave, she has the means to achieve it.
A seafaring adventure filled with danger from many sources and a few sexy scenes. The magic of the God's and their fury causes fear and heartache. A very exciting story beautifully presented.
This is part of a series about the wolves but each has his own story. You will meet some characters you might have met in previous books, but not enough to spoil any of them.
Steiner keeps the sea as his mistress and desires none other until he encounters the warrior maiden Inga, the Ruthless, who awakens first his wolf and then the man. Their passion must battle the sea, gods and goddesses and evil men to survive. A marvelous tale a treasure hunts, bravery in battles, age old feuds by the gods and goddess, and a new found love that conquers all. What an exquisite story. One you won't want to end. Can't wait to read the next story about the Wolves of Clan Sutherland.
Steinar drew back. “I think neither of us is the victor. I taste the woman and the warrior.” She threw caution out to the sea and wrapped her arms around the man’s neck. “Are you certain you have sampled enough, Pirate?” His low growl surrounded Inga. “You are a siren, Inga. A danger to any man. You should leave and bolt the door on your chamber.”
The wolf is a fearsome creature, strong and mighty, so it is only right for the wolf to be the animal chosen by Odin to be his protector. The bloodlines of the men chosen would carry the strength and duty within them. And while wolves do not belong on the sea, Steinar MacDougall belonged to both the sea and to the wolf. Known as the Pirate Wolf, he was fierce in his beliefs, but feared by many.
The Olafssons were a formidable enemy to make, a group of brothers known as the Serpents, who sailed to trade and who were not opposed to bloodying their weapons to get what they wanted. But, they sailed with a secret, for their leader, Leif the Bloody Spear did not hold the power he would lead others to believe. Their leader was indeed a warrior, and a talented, relentless one at that, but Inga the Ruthless was most certainly not one of the Olafsson brothers. She was, though, their sister. And they had a quest, a mission to fulfil. One that they could not complete without the help of the Pirate Wolf.
Steinar (The Wolves of Clan Sutherland, Book 3) by Mary Morgan is a meticulously written tale that immerses the reader in a world where the characters truly come alive. Once you dive into this story, the pages become infused with enchantment. Immersing yourself in the story is like unravelling a hidden treasure, long forgotten for centuries.
Steinar is an experienced pirate, accustomed to a life on the sea, leading his crew fearlessly from one place to another. The wolf within him provided the necessary guidance and strength to make Steinar's ship a formidable force that others were cautious to approach. The storm that led him to the Olafsson’s ship was an unstoppable force, as the sky and sea united to pull him overboard, indebting him to those who rescued him from the water. And even though Steinar has never faced a foe he has not been able to defeat, Inga the Ruthless is one he does not know how to approach. How did one even begin to think about how to best an enemy when that enemy had saved your life? And never had he met a woman who was so breathtakingly beautiful. But, Inga was in the same boat. Before her stood a man who possessed the ancient power of Odin’s wolves, capable of killing her and her entire crew without hesitation. But she needed his help, and he seemed fairly willing! It was truly delightful to observe Steinar and Inga gradually letting their guards down towards each other. Despite their initial doubts, both of them couldn’t help but feel a strong emotional pull, even if logic advised caution.
While I won’t go into detail about the specifics of their joint quest, it is essential to recognize its pivotal role in shaping the destiny of both Inga and Steinar. It is a perilous undertaking, and as they embark on their journey, they are acutely aware of the countless individuals who have attempted and failed to unearth the coveted treasure. What treasure is it that Inga truly seeks, and why is it important enough to take the risk and save Steinar, just to ensure she is the one to finally uncover it? Amidst a web of secrets and falsehoods, the undeniable tension weaves its way into the blossoming connection between Inga and Steinar, crafting a captivating novel that evokes both intrigue and emotion, leaving readers in a perpetual state of uncertainty regarding trust and ensuring an unyielding desire to continue reading.
This is a novel of love, but also one of respect. First and foremost, was the high regard the Gods and Goddesses were held in. To be on the good side of a God or Goddess was one thing, but to find yourself on their bad side? Words and actions were curbed out of respect, but also a little out of fear, for what wrath the deities in question may feel is necessary. Both Steinar and Inga also hold a lot of respect, from their men, but they also return the feelings. Neither rule with an iron fist, and value the opinions of those around them. Inga works incredibly hard to maintain the respect she has earned as leader. For Steinar, it is not difficult, for he is a man of strength and power, but Inga is a woman, surrounded by warriors, and making them listen to her is sometimes a struggle. Especially so when it comes to her eldest brother Leif. Leif is the warrior believed to be the leader of the Serpents, and it is a position he desperately desires, but his younger sister holds the title and he must bow to her command. It is clear as you read how uncomfortable he is with the leadership set-up, and at times his words and actions do make him come across as rather unlikeable, for he does not trust Inga’s intuition, and questions her every move. To his credit, though, he does listen to Inga, even if he puts up a fight first.
Once you dive into Steinar (The Wolves of Clan Sutherland, Book 3) by Mary Morgan, you’ll be enchanted by the magic that makes it impossible to set the book aside. The words have a magnetic pull, and like any great saga, you become engrossed, delving further into the narrative. From action to romance, secrets to adventure, every aspect of this book is captivating and will keep you hooked until the last page.
Steinar is known as the Pirate Wolf, but he’s met his match when fierce Inga the Ruthless rescues him from a watery grave. Steinar is a breathtaking Viking paranormal romance worth reading. This is book three in the Wolves of Clan Sutherland series, but you can read it even if you haven’t read the other two. I’ve been waiting a year for this book, and it was worth it. Steinar is certain to sweep you away with its stunning world-building, descriptive narration, characters who’ll invade every part of you, and a forbidden romance. I couldn’t put it down and neither will you.
Let’s start with the world-building. Mary Morgan constructs worlds with the same precision as an architect. Every detail is expressed and builds upon the next detail until you have a beautiful world. The intricacy of her world is impressive while the continuity from book to book is seamless. Brilliant, as always.
The narration is full of details and emotion. Every scene is described so as to plunge you, the reader, into the story. Even something as benign as a guest room is described in lush detail. It’s lovely because the nuances of the scene feed my soul and allow me to escape to a different time and place.
The characters are so vibrant, so colorful, so full of life, they are the number one reason to read this book. Steinar is part of the brotherhood and is fiercely loyal to King William. He’s a wolf shifter, also known as the Pirate Wolf. The sea is part of him and he’s most comfortable at sea. Love and romance are not for him. But Inga changes everything. He’s a wonderful paradox and a true hero. He's brash yet thoughtful. He’s a warrior yet yearns for something more.
Inga is a Viking shieldmaiden and must be tough to command her men. She’s hard-nosed, logical, yet hides her beauty. She’s drawn to Steinar, and it scares her. She’s a strong heroine whom I admire.
The rest of the characters are not only historical accurate but add quite a bit of intrigue to the story. They also exude what it means to be a Viking.
If you’re a fan of Viking historical romance with a heavy dose of myth and paranormal, you’ll want to read this gem. I think it’s Mary Morgan’s finest work to date. I can’t wait for the next installment.
Wow! These is a lot going on in this story. You have gods, goddesses, warriors, wolves, treasure, deception, betrayal, intense emotions and a whole lot of action! During a violent storm, Steinar was thrown overboard. At the last minute he was rescued from the Sirens who were attempting to drag him down to the ocean’s floor. He soon found himself in chains on what should be an enemy ship. However the ship’s leader, a lovely warrior named Inga the Ruthless, made a deal with him to help them navigate treacherous waters to a secret island containing legendary treasures. There were multiple stops along the way, and the happenings on each island were like a story within a story. Despite trying to fight it, Inga and Steinar fell in love, which created a whole new set of problems once she revealed a secret regarding her identity. The various characters of this tale each have a code by which they govern their lives, and not all of them are on the same page, which is just one more source of underlying conflict. This author is gifted at creating scenes that ignite your imagination, grab your attention, and engage your emotions. It is one wild ride from beginning to end and leaving you breathless and wanting more.

Uncaged Review: This author has a way of weaving a tale that will keep a reader glued to the pages, and the Wolves of Clan Sutherland are masterpieces. Each book will have you falling in love with the wolves all over again and all you can hope for is that the author keeps writing about them. This story is all about Steinar – the aloof sea pirate wolf, and Inga the Ruthless, who commands the Serpents. Steinar is saved by Inga and her ship, and they strike a bargain, if Steinar can get her through the deadly seas to a treasure, he will be set free. But Steinar never counted on his wolf and his heart getting involved but Inga holds many secrets of her own.
One of the most emotional times for me in this series, is when the wolves come to aid one of their brothers, and when Magmar, Rorik and Gunnar show up, I may have needed a tissue. In this series, the wolf and man share a soul, but are distinctly different. I don’t think in all the fantasy I’ve read, that I’ve enjoyed a shifter book as much. This book has romance, danger, action and mystery and if you haven’t read anything from this author, you are truly missing out. My note to the author: write faster. Reviewed by Cyrene
This is a historical paranormal romance steeped in Celtic and Norse magic. It´s the third book in the series but the first one I read, and my lack of knowledge of the others didn´t affect anything. They can all be read as standalone.
I liked the idea of a pirate wolf shifter and found it original. I enjoyed the paranormal aspects as well as the quest they were on, with its dangers. There´s lots of action. The descriptions transported me back in time. The characters behaved in a manner that made sense, and their journey pulled me along.
So what happens when the pirate wolf captain falls overboard and is rescued by the shield maiden captain of a rival clan? Embark on this journey and find out… You won´t regret it.

Steinar is book three in The Wolves of Clan Sutherland, and while Magnar and Rorik, from books one and two, make an appearance in this story, Steinar is a star on his own. This Viking, historical romance also includes a paranormal theme and a lot of steam. The author wrote the perfect story for Steinar. He is a true hero and likable immediately. He teams up with Inga the Ruthless who is a strong female lead. The plot is a page-turner from the first scene. The author spins a tale that grabs your attention and throws you into the stormy seas onto turbulent lands. Ms. Morgan is a masterful visual story teller who places you in her stories with the characters. Drama, action, and surprising twists put this book high on my recommended reading list. Enjoyable from beginning to end.
This third book in The Wolves of Clan Sutherland Series was emotional, exciting and filled with unexpected twists and turns as well as being totally intriguing. I fell in love with Steinar right from the beginning; he was such an interesting character and also swoon worthy of course. Inga wasn’t your typical heroine. She was a warrior who demanded respect from the get go and was certainly a worthy partner for the Pirate Wolf! Their story was mesmerizing and very emotional and so enjoyable. Mary Morgan is truly a masterful storyteller and has you in the palm of her hands throughout the entire book. Thank you Ms Morgan for giving me the opportunity to read another one of your extraordinary stories.
A Pirate Wolf and the leader of the Serpents, two opposing forces, are thrown together by circumstances. What could go wrong?
I saw this book featured on my favourite book blog (Yarde Books - if anyone is interested) and I was totally intrigued. And although romance isn't my usual go-to genre, I thought this book sounded like it could be a lot of fun. I mean, two enemies, both on the same quest, who so happen to be deeply attracted to each other, it has all the makings of a brilliant read. and a brilliant read it was. The story is filled with action, magic and some rather steamy sex scenes that made me blush!
I am really looking forward to going back and reading the other books in the series. If they are as good as this one then I am really going to be in for a treat.
Sigh....you know a story has been that good when you regret coming to the end. It could have gone on forever and I would have been happy:) I absolutely adored Steinar and Inga's story, it's filled with passion, Gods & Goddesses, magic, high seas adventures, betrayal, etc. Many twists and turns make sure you can't put the book down!!
Mary Morgan has a way of writing that captures your attention from start to finish and I for one, am very happy when she puts her imagination to paper. Her characters truly come to life and you can't help but love them.

Steinar (The Wolves of Clan Sutherland Book 3) 5 stars review due 1/10/24 Steiner & Inger
He's on a search for his king when he is captured by her and her crew of abnormals. The fact their chemistry is strong makes it difficult to do what they are assigned.
The author has a magnificent writing skill. Reading her is being there. Will the two perform their orders by their dictators or will their desires get in the way? He is sure his wolf inside is enough to overcome her crew but would he rather be with her?
I am always thrilled with her stories and this one is no different. Enjoy. I, too, hope this isn't really the last.
I hope you’ve enjoyed Steinar and Inga’s epic sea adventure and journey to find love. Trust me, dear readers, I was unprepared for the surprising twists, mysteries, and betrayals while I wove their tale. As an author, I like to plot out my stories. Each chapter has a theme. Yet I found myself arguing with all my characters over various shifts in plots and scenes. When I finally relented, the story poured out of me in waves of writing.
This book had action right from the beginning keeping my attention throughout the book. I loved the romance between Inga and Steinar. This had all the makings of a great story.

What a gorgeous romantic adventure! Inga and Steinar are both strong, fierce, powerful characters, enemies, too. While they are drawn to each other immediately, their feelings unfold subtly at first, almost as natural and irrepressible as breathing. But it doesn’t take long for the force of their passion to rival that of the sea.
With the Wolves of Clan Sutherland, Mary Morgan has conquered another facet of medieval history and lore – the Vikings and Norse gods. She spares nothing, describing both ship and isle so distinctly you can smell the sea, feel the barrenness of the land, and dread the wrath of the gods.
The characters are all strongly drawn. Several favorites from previous books in the series make an appearance or two (hint: swoon). There are twists and turns as the plot surges forward. I held my breath through half the book! The other half was spent sighing over some of the most beautiful love scenes I’ve ever read.
As ever, Mary Morgan masterfully sweeps the reader away, back through the mists of time and history, to a place where love, honor, and selflessness prevail despite harsh circumstances and the cruelties of life. Many thanks to the author for this brilliant escape.
