Longman Student Grammar is a well-constructed and example-rich descriptive grammar, which I used during my English MA studies as required reading and continue using to this day—I check it whenever my EFL brain gets stuck trying to figure out some grammatical structure or other. Grammars are not traditionally thought of as entertaining, but through Longman's varied and corpus-based examples the grammar reads fairly effortlessly.

...See I read it as a joke at first... But it's maybe one of the best grammar books I've ever had to read, because it explains stuff and, how shocking, HAS AN OPEN VIEW OF GRAMMAR :0

No seriously only finding this at the end of my English Studies for my Major, it's depressing to know how many tears I could have sparred myself had I read this book. But hey, as a teacher in the making, this is surely what I will be recomending to my students.

The feeling of wanting to tear my hair off was all due to my attitude towards grammar, it wasn't this poor book's fault. So because this was a compulsory read for university, the rating was given with as much objectivity as possible. I may faint in the exam, but at least Longman offered me the chance to read about grammar in a well organized format with clear sections, tables and examples. And, you know, the real one is about 1500 pages long, which makes me a little happier.
