Vinnie has always turned to writing during the grace periods of his life. He used his Master's Degree in Business Administration from UCLA, to make a naked grab for money from American Capitalism and Innovation for twenty-five years. After this, he swapped the fifth-avenue banker lifestyle for that of a literary observer. Vinnie is no stranger to feeling like a stranger. For the majority of his adult life, he has been an immigrant, a foreigner, and an outsider. He has lived unnoticed in Luxembourg, Boston, Wilmington, Los Angeles, and New York and wandered, at times feeling lost in various cities, surveying people, places, and things. Vinnie believes in serial entrepreneurship, keeping our beaches clean, enjoys occasional math, and craves a kind of wanderlust and a wish to travel back in time to simpler days. He is influenced heavily by immaculate writing and flawless prose. This is his first publication of short stories.
This book had me conflicted throughout. The blurb was promising and I really was in the mood for the 'delightful' part... although I am really not sure how much of that was a success for this book.
The Delightful parts: 1. The titles and the clever use of punctuation marks and alphabet placings. 2. The exploration of the themes, you can easily identify that the author loves to explore stuff and is really knowledgeable. I love learning new stuff and this made me intrigued. 3. The stories don't shy away from exploring tough themes. 4. In particular the stories - Ne Phew and ?Answers were my favourites, they actually made me smile.
The unpleasant parts : (for me) 1. I am not someone who has explored homosexuality in literature before, that doesn't mean I never would in the future, it's just that I wasn't ready. No where did anyone mention about it. So when I first realised what I was actually in for, it made me unsettled. 2. The undeciphered creepy feeling...okay don't get me wrong but the second story, 😭 why was it the way it was? It creeped me out...I felt uncomfortable and the dialogues were straight out of a horror movie, like what? 3. Now that we've come to dialogues, I would really like to reemphasise that short story writers cannot just ignore the dialogue part. Why was almost 70% content without any dialogues?
Appreciable efforts and enough space for improvement. My best wishes to the author for his future endeavours! I look forward to read more improved works from him!!
