DEEP BENEATH THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO, a murder victim is dumped at an archaeological dig. A note pinned to his shirt warns we will bury you.
The question is, who is you?
Desperate to learn what happened--and what might happen next--investigators bring in forensic geologists Cassie Oldfield and Walter Shaws. They have a reputation for reading the rocks with an X-ray eye, and unlocking a case.
The key to this case is finding out where the victim took his final steps. Tracking mud from his boots, the geologists follow the mineral trail to a startling site at the city's wild edge.
As they rush to learn the connection between this unlikely place and the dig on the other side of the city, they unearth the meaning of we will bury you.
Word by alarming word.

Another great intellectually-stimulating mystery! 5 stars overall, 5 stars story, 5 stars narration
I am extremely pleased with this latest case in the Forensic Geology series. This time the forensic geologists Cassie and Walter are investigating a murder in San Francisco and exploring the geology on the wild edge of the continent. The geology and geography are wonderfully accurate. I loved the exciting developments, twists I didn’t see coming, spelunking, archaeology, and danger for my favorite investigators. The writing was superb, and the narration was perfect, elevating the action and the intelligent plot to another level. Once I started this book, I didn’t want to stop. I also loved how all the plot threads were wonderfully wrapped up at the end. I totally recommend this book and the series to all mystery fans, especially to those who enjoy science.
I requested and received a free audio copy via the publisher, and I voluntarily wrote this honest review. #TheFlockVIPReviewTeam #FiresideAudio
I have enjoyed several books by Toni Dwiggins. This is a good story but I felt she didn’t take as much time fleshing out the bones. A bit more of the forensics, a bit more archaeology, maybe a longer introduction. But I will read more of her stories because others I have read did provide more story. I think maybe getting an archaeologist on the team permanently is a great idea
Another Great Geology Mystery! Audiobook Review 🎧 I love these stories in the Forensic Geology Series with Walter and Cassie. This story has them looking into a murder in San Fransisco. As with the rest of the series, there is a lot of excitement, intrigue and twists and turns in this story. The narration by Nellie Scott was great and made the Audiobook enjoyable to listen to. I look forward to Toni Dwiggins’ next book. #AudiobookObsession #TheFlock
The book is most definitely different from anything I've read previously. My brain hurts trying to remember everything I heard in earth science and chemistry classes in high school and college. It didn't make any sense then but in this context it takes it's place in education.
Another good one in this series! I always wonder what Cassie and Walter will be doing next! In here they are at an archeological dig and everything goes downhill from there. I love their enthusiasm and desire to get the right answers. Nellie Scott does the narration and really helps bring these characters out. I enjoy these and look forward to more.
What a way to start a dig. When a murder victim is dumped at an archaeological dig. With a note pinned to his shirt warns we will bury you. Forensic geologists Cassie Oldfield and Walter Shaws are called in to find out the who and why. Our geologists follow the mineral trail.
This one took me a little bit to get into (3.5). I don't know if I was just not as engaged or wasn't ready for all the knowledge that was being discussed. But I stuck with it and it was definitely full of twist and turns. I didn't see the ending coming. If you like a thriller then you should enjoy this one.
I love crime stories, particularly when use of forensic geology is involved. The story line keeps you turning the page. An understanding of basic geology greatly enhances my enjoyment of this collection of books.
Cassie and Walter are back and doing their thing in The Bay Area. Current crimes and past history mix and mingle nicely in this current episode of a feud that started in the Gold Rush days of San Francisco.
Least favorite of the series. Good read but just didn't have the same since of engagement. The other books in this series were difficult to put down each day. Not the case with this one.
Geologically speaking, to spin a yarn like this from the reclaimed shores of San Francisco requires a strong will and a good knowledge of local history. The tale was slow to develop, but its ending surprises.
A terrific tale. There is plenty of intrigue mixed with a large helping of geology. I waited patiently for this book to be released and am more than happy with the result.
Crime scene story similar to the Hatfields and McCoys. This is a series that I’ve read over the years. There’s some technical geology information but not a bad mystery.
