After surviving an encounter with the Beast, the pinnacle of power in the Nexeus, Salvos decides she still needs to get stronger.
But power does not come easy, especially at the higher levels. Fortunately for Salvos, she has made an enemy out of the Demon King himself, and she will take advantage of his animosity towards her. Because if the Deathsquad Hunters want to come for her head? She will welcome them with open arms.
In the Mortal Realm, Edithe campaigns for the United Coalition of the Human Lands to take the remaining Demon threat seriously, while Daniel finds himself being hunted down by a group of Elite Elves. As for Rachel, she learns that even with the departure of Salvos, the Mortal Realm remains a dangerous and tumultuous place with calamities lurking around the corner. Just like Salvos, Rachel understands that she needs to become stronger.
I miss the first few entries I the series. Those has a solid foundation for a good amount of story. These last couple of books are mostly set up and filler. I would rather wait for a good installment than waste time on a trivial one released for expediency.
I was a little bit worried that the first time the front cover showed a different character than salvos, that the entire story would be side characters. But Salvt was still the main character. But there was plenty of jumping around between the different characters, now that they're all split up. It is actually pretty great to hear about How everyone else was doing separate from salvos. Especially Rachel, the girl on the front cover. Really fun seeing what she is doing and what she looks like.
I'm sorry this book shouldn't exist in the Salvos series. The title character should have started as a new series in the same world. Salvos does stuff in here but nothing worth mentioning. Lots of stuff happens but we go nowhere. I hope the author has a full series outline they are following because this entry makes me worried they are just winging it for what happens next.
All that said I still enjoy the world and story. I don't regret reading it. I'm looking forward to #13.
Rachel story is an interesting one that sets up new plot. There is far too few reminders of characters who knew Salvos and what was their reaction when they learned. Especialy those who would hit on her, see her eat bugs or other examples. There is yoo little about Helena and Orgaf story, and also Edithe will leave the demon front in next book, and there is no mention about it a all in all future text so far. Pity.
I'm kind of torn on how to feel about these books. I don't dislike them but the last 2-3 have felt like nothing but filler with a few key plot points mixed in and it doesn't feel as if it's really progressing all that quickly.
I did not expect much as I grew used to Lewis. Stil book 12 is too short, repetitive, and full of embarrassing mistakes. Salvos deserves better than that :(
