The writing in this was significantly better than Part 1. It was like night and day. The characters actually had interactions and there was great relationship development. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this book after being disappointed by Part 1.
That said, there were still some pretty gaping holes. I found it strange that the Whitlocks hired this important security team for Summer, yet, most of the Whitlocks don't know the first names of the members of Pack Monroe and have never seen pictures of them. You'd think they'd look at pictures of Pack Monroe so they know who they are supposed to be protecting Summer from? Additionally, maybe I missed it, but I don't think Hudson or Maverick ever realized it was Jade who walked into the house they were working on to flip. I know that Jade thought about it in her POV chapter, but Maverick and Hudson never really circled back to it or made the connection (I don't think?). What was the point of that?
I was disappointed that we didn't get more closure on Summer's fertility or what Ava did to Summer to suddenly bring her out of a vegetative state (because I'm assuming Ava did something or had some antidote from her parents aka the creators of the Passion Pack drug). I assume that the author did this intentionally to leave open-ended pieces for more books in this universe, but it just felt like holes or plot points that were never really tied together, so it didn't really make sense. I wish the last epilogue wasn't solely dedicated to Jade again. I wanted more of a HEA. It was just heat and then a visit to the prison. I wanted that article to be published anyways.
I just wanted more, but overall, I liked this and it's a lot better than Part 1. It's worth reading if you read Part 1. The writing is a lot better.
Overall okay, but boring and the F/F connection was lackluster at best. But honestly there were just too many plot decisions, that were just too dumb to ignore, that just dragged the rest of the story down.
The plot decision, to NOT HAVE THE MATES LOOK AT PICTURE OF THE OLD PACK, already available pictures of well known people, has to be one of the stupidest things I ever read. How the author sat down and thought „ya. That makes sense.“ is beyond me.
The Mason „plot twist“ was equally ridiculous and bizarre.
And I am not even touching how that „coma“ situation was handled.

So, my rating didn't change. It still is 3.5 stars. But at least I found book 2 more satisfying and read it faster than the first part.
So, there were less time jumps, a bit more facets to the personalities. And really interactions instead of a lot of summaries about what happened.
I liked the addition of characters too, though, I have to say there were so many. I asked myself what was the sense of throwing so many people in, that we barely see or are only there for one instance and that's it.
But I liked Wells. And Bailee and her pack were interesting too, even though, they are such characters that were there for one instance (connection to the OPS) and nothing else.
But even with all that and the improvements, the story was not well executed. Again, I found mistakes and loopholes in the plot, which left me questioning and confused.
Funny thing, that the book is about editing and structural development of a story. It even says that there has to be development and that it has to make sense to the story. Even that, the tone and style has to fit. But then there are so many issues…
Like I found it strange, that the guys didn’t know what the old pack looks like, but the security detail does. They hire a big security company, and leave all of that to them without getting the information themselves? Like how do they look like and names? They never appear like that. The entire story, they are overprotective and precautious. It didn't make sense. They even go out with her. So, how would they know if there is danger, if they aren't sure what to look out for?
Same when everything was out of the bag. The situation with Hud and Mav with Jade at the flipping house — it seemed like they both didn't even realize it was Jade after they saw a picture of her.
That was just not logical.
And then the visit of Ava, when Summer was comatose. It was never revealed what she did, and I'm sure she did something based on the indicated behavior and that Summer was recovering directly after that visit. And it is again indicated by Dr. Tanner, but she let it drop quickly, after she made a call (which I think was to Ava, since they clearly know each other). But we are left hanging. I know the author probably plans on writing a book about Ava as well. And some other characters too. Like Damien, Wells, and Houston. Since it was mentioned some of their backgrounds. Still, it feels strange to leave something like that open.
Other mistakes I wrote down, but are some I'm willing to overlook, since, again, editors and authors and so on are all humans, and we aren't perfect and are bound to make mistakes.
But Ava was mentioned to have blue eyes in the first book. In the second, she suddenly had green eyes. That wouldn't be noticeable to most people or really relevant, but since I wrote details down when reading a book (such as appearances or general information on characters, backgrounds etc.), I noticed that right away.
Then when Summer described the tattoos she got. She said about the one at her ear, “a row of sparrows starts at the bottom of the lobe where the puncture wound from Blaire's bite is and stopping halfway up”. There isn't a Blaire. I think she meant Jade. But I'm not sure. I only know that the one at her foot was from Connor (I think), since Summer mentioned that she has a thing with feet (never truly said what the issue was) and Connor knew that, which is the reason he bit her there.
And then the epilogues. It didn't really felt solved at the end. The first epilogue was just a heat and mating scenes. It wasn't really necessary to put it there. And the second one was about Summer visiting Jade at the jail for one sentence. I get it, that Summer wanted to make her peace or something. But it was not really necessary.
There were other things, that I would have liked to elaborate on. Like about her job and that she applied for a new position? The article? How their lives changed? More about the situation with her infertility? And if they will have future children or anything? That it was I like to see in an epilogue.
I really hope the author learns a lot from this duet and actually will improve before writing other books. I see potential in the writing. And the premise wasn't bad. So, the author as a good chance, and hopefully will use it.
What an absolutely rushed ending if there ever was one. Okay. I still gave this book 4 stars, because I have HIGH hopes that there will be more books that tie certain things together. But I should rate it 1 star based ONLY on its ending.
I wanna be clear, I really enjoyed this book. It was fun, and kept me wrapped up and turning every page. BUT.. I use good reads to remind myself of the issues I had with the book too not just the good. I can remember pretty easily that I enjoy a book overall cause I rated it 4 stars and that will remind me I am down to continue reading this author. But...I also need to list my issues to remember them so thats what the next part is. Its my list of WHATs?
Read this only if youve read both books: The reasons Id take away a star:
1. What was up with her boss at the publishing company??? Half the time I swear I thought the author was going to turn him into a last minute pack mate? The guy would deflate at times or tense at others, and tense at others, and I kept waiting for something to happen and it didnt. 2. What happens now with Ava and her crazy board? I dont care if you want to throw in some easter eggs for hints at the next book...you cant have a massive plot point then fully ignore it. Ava shows up, obviously fixes Summer....sooo we just arent going to talk about that? I am fully uninterested in you making an entire plot point for this book a lead in for the next one. Thats not how standalone duets should be. You should be able to read and finish this series and its specific plot points. These arent easter eggs into Ava's past where we can dive head first in another book to her story. This is legit things that are relavent to this story. 3. that ending was insanely ridiculously rushed. Can we get some confirmation that the drug definitely left her unable to have kids? Or did Ava's whatever drug fix that too? We had 5% chance. And then in the epilogue..we get a heat. Why give us a second heat? Seems ridiculous. Just to get bond marks? 4...which leads me to Hi....why are major plot things happening in epilogues? Epilogues should be extra to the story.. Like little cherry on top. If you wanted to make the story continue to her next heat.....just do the next chapter. Not an epilogue. 5. In this universe... how does a female alpha satisfy her omega?? In so many ABO books, we get something from the female alpha. An interesting apendage...or something. Biologically, why would you allow ff relationships in a universe but not have her able to properly take care of the big biological needs of their truest partner? Doesnt make sense. Give me something a female alpha can do to compensate at least....throw your own twist at the magic of female alphas. This is lazy. 6. Smut scenes were really good...but with the combination of options for spicy time...You would think they could get a bit more creative on the pairings and relationship dynamics. 7. an add on to the lack of originality in the combined sex scenes... we dont get a full pack scene? We get 2 epilogues with an extra heat and peopel are sleeping and tapping out so others can tap in? Dont understand.
The story was so damn good till the end. Did we forget to plot it slower so we could spread out that ending a bit? I could have done without the scene going to "have closure" with Jade if we could have had more time developing the ending. Also, can we talk about how super random the fact that she was so attached to Wells but not the other alphas in the body guard group is? Pushed several times in the text that shes so brother sister with this guy? Why? Nothing came of that either. And then add to it how ackward it was for them to be at the restaurant together eating. Im glad Wells mentions that its weird. but she has SEVERAL packmates. She couldnt go to a steak house with any of them? She had to go with Wells?? I get it that she was then taken from the restaurant but no....the way it went down makes no sense.
Okay. Rant over. I will be reading more if there are more books in the future.

I really struggled with both parts of this series. Part 1 felt more tolerable as Summer is attempting to heal from her trauma and has 0 idea about her scent matches. But I still had problems with connecting to the characters, what felt like pointless prose, and endless internal monologuing.
My issues with this series can be narrowed down to:
1. Infertility - Summer is unable to conceive thanks to the drugs her previous pack gave to her, she really wants kids so you would think this would become a plot point that is circled back to, even if it's her magically being able to conceive in the epilogue. But nothing ever comes of it, she holds onto her grief alone, refuses to talk to the Whitlock pack about it, and then it's never mentioned again...
2. Lack of Communication between Whitlock pack - Mason and Maverick are in a committed relationship, both knowing that when an omega comes into the mix they want to remain together, however the second they find her, they both act like dick heads. I get Mason and his insecurities, but Maverick literally picked Mason up and knew his history and why he might become distant when they find Summer, and does nothing to reassure Mason of their relationship. He even flat out refuses to tell Mason Summer was in heat in the first book and then they magically talk it out for like 10 min with the barest excuses given, and Mason forgives him.... boy if you don't make him work for it??????
3. Previous Pack - Why do we need Jades POV? what did that add to the narrative? - Why did Jade go into Mav and Hudsons house and it was never circled back to? Hudson is supposed to be the big neurotic protector but he's the one being friendly and handing out business cards to Jade when she just RANDOMLY walks into their house they're constructing??? - Why did Whitlock's ex's all end up being stupid ridiculous? - Summer never mentions the previous pack by name, she never shows them pictures, didn't tell them where they were living etc. Correct me if I'm wrong but ... considering they have THREE security detail on Summer to protect her from the previous pack, but all members need to know their names, faces, and anything else Summer knows. Which leads into my next point.
4. Lack of Street Smarts - Summer considering she managed to escape and hide for a few months, seriously lacks any self-saving initiative. She talks to strangers in closed areas without witnesses, she puts up a fuss that she can't keep working at a busy bar, she doesn't share pictures/descriptions, doesn't share their routines, doesn't tell the security detail about both her jobs or her schedule so they are unprepared to keep her safe. - Summer runs from the pack because she heard them talking about being her mate, and then she talks to 2 people and 5 min later her trauma is good and sorted and she's running into their arms after antagonizing her ex-pack. And then attempts to not tell her new pack about her THREATENING THE EX PACK AS IF THAT WON'T PUT HER IN MORE DANGER????????
Anyways, overall there was also just a lot of words wasted on shit that didn't end up meaning anything, lots of red herrings, lots of shit happening off page that should've been on page. Idk this was kind of a mess and considering the fmc works in a pub house and is learning how to edit manuscripts the author would apply that to their own work but alas... here we are.
SYNOPSIS (of Duet): The story is set in the Omegaverse universe. The FC, Summer, thought that she had bonded with her fated mates but after losing her baby and being hit by her alpha she decided to run away. She then discovered that she had been drugged into beleiving that the pack were her fated mates but they weren‘t. She lives off the grid working in a bar and for cash. She then meets her real fated mates Brooklyn (alpha), Hudson (alpha), Maverick (alpha) and Mason (beta) who know immediately who she is but who she does not initially recognise due to the drugs. The story covers the development of their relationship and how Summer avoid being taken back by her old pack. There‘s a HEA. Heat level is 🌶️🌶️
This duet was an enjoyable enough read but was a bit slow for me with not much happening and Summer‘s mates all being fairly vanilla (despite the attempt at a dominant scene) and low level alpha. The mates are all fairly similar in that save for Mason they are all alphas who have professional jobs and are not particularly strong personalities or overly possessive or aggressive. They‘re all very normal and low level in terms of strength of personality. Brooklyn is a female alpha and leader of the pack which adds a girlfriend element to the equation. Summer is likeable but does not come across as overly strong or kick ass. The author doesn’t give much in terms of background or world building so everything is fairly superficial.
Summer runs from the pack that she thought were her fated mates after the alpha lead hit her following her miscarriage. Now, I certainly don‘t advocate for a woman to stay somewhere where she is physically abused but it still seemed to be a bit extreme for her to immediately run away and hide after being hit once after years of apparently being treated well and lovingly.
Initially the real mates decide not to tell the FC that she is their mate as they don‘t want to push it on her. That leads to an unnecessary misunderstanding which is quickly resolved. As other reviewers have said, there seems little point in this sub-plot other than to create a little bit of drama.
There is also the overall plot of Summer‘s original pack wanting her back. Whilst the author implies that the reason the pack originally drugged Summer was because they were bored of waiting for their fated omega it made little sense that they would go to that extreme and then turn on her when she miscarried. Especially as the miscarriage was due to the drugs. It was also unclear why such a wealthy and powerful pack would chase her down to steal her back when it was clear that they would not get away with it and all they would be getting would be an unwilling omega.
Overall the story was fine but not a keeper for me with little real angst or depth to it or the characters.
IT WAS OK. But the “ending” was rushed and dissatisfying.
**SPOILERS**
It was an ok follow up book. However, honestly, considering there were two epilogues, I’d really would’ve preferred if the book had ended with Summer being pregnant. Remember…the first book included her traumatic miscarriage. And the second book had Summer clearly wanting a child with her real pack, even testing for pregnancy.
Considering the fertility issue was brought up in the plot (and did play a pretty large factor in the overall story arc. I.e. she miscarried with her fake pack. It would’ve been really nice to see her get pregnant with her true mates). I didn’t like that if they were going to bring up her diminished fertility as a plot point, that they didn’t at least give her a true fulfilling HEA. It would’ve been complete if she was in that 5% that could have a baby with her TRUE MATES. And I was truly disappointed that Wren White didn’t think to end the book with a little pack Whitlock baby. Why even make her fertility such a big plot point in the book only to let down the characters and the readers with a “sad” ending that just confirmed Summer’s worst fears…that she wouldn’t be able to conceive. It was especially annoying because she had ANOTHER heat at the very end up the book…so it would’ve been a perfect conclusion to the book if the epilogue had Summer learning she had gotten pregnant during that second heat despite the low odds.
Just thought it wasn’t a TRUE HEA without a pack baby. Definitely disappointed. 😞
OOF. I didn't think the first book was great, but the second made the story take a nosedive, in my opinion.
Again, we're getting a fast paced story where the relationship progression is subpar. But we're also getting some strange moments in the plot that I just can't get past.
For example; Jade goes to the house that two of Summer's pack members are planning on flipping and selling. What SHOULD have happened is they immediately recognized her as Summer's old Alpha because they would have seen photos. You know... because they're really protective of Summer and hired a security team for her and would want to know who her old pack was? We also get the 'plot twist' that Summer's old pack is ALSO Mason's old pack. Shouldn't they know who Mason's old pack was that treated him so poorly? And why does this 'plot twist' GO NOWHERE?
We also have things that go unanswered with Summer's job and also her fertility. The story made SUCH a big deal about Summer's fertility that it feels very strange to not come full circle on that towards the end.
Overall, this duet is very skippable to me. I know Wren White is a new author with her first book being published towards the end of 2022, I think, and this is her first Omegaverse, but I just don't think it's worth reading.
Part 1 was better. Part 2 felt like it dragged. A few things that were frustrating as a reader:
- I’m not big on FF romance, but even I felt like that was an afterthought in this duet. The FMC had way more time spent with the MMCs. There’s one time where the FMC is going to bed with 2 of the MMCs but takes the time to go find the 3rd MMC and say goodnight. The FMC however does not take the time to find the other FMC to say goodnight. It honestly felt like the book was written with only MMCs, and then after completion the author added in an alpha female bits.
- The author completely forgot about the pregnancy scare. One day the FMC is freaking out because she had unprotected sex and goes to the Dr for a pregnancy test. And then we NEVER hear about the results. Felt like that was a major plot point and the author forgot to complete that arc.
- There should have been more build up with the antagonist pack in this book. They were so easily forgotten, and for how rich and powerful they were….they floundered with the kidnap. Also the surprise oh the beta MMCs abusive pack from his past is ALSO the abusive pack from the FMCs past was too obvious and an eye roller.

I really liked the plot of this duet. I liked the idea of having a pack that the omega thought was their mates and it ending up being a lie where they mistreat her, but luckily for her when she finds the strength to leave she meets her fated mates, even if she doesn't know it yet. This one had a unique twist that made it stand out from similar omegaverse stories which was nice.
However, this duet draggggged for me. Literally nothing all that exciting happened until 75% way through the SECOND book. And then the climax was just kind of boring... and weird and got resolved in an also, weird and boring way. I am genuinely surprised I even finished this duet.
I think it would have gone a lot better if it had been a standalone. Then the conflict wouldn't have felt like it was soooo far into the books, and I wouldn't of felt like it dragged as much before that.
From getting everything clarified, to Maverick apologizing, to Brooklyn realizing her mistake and the pack asking her to move in was such a great way for this book to move smoothly! Tatem can rot in jail for what she did. I’m also glad that nothing happened to her while she was kidnapped other than them sending her into a coma of sorts. Jade and her pack can trip over a lot of kn*ves for all i care. Also what i coincidence that the Pack that through mason out was the same pack that abused summer. That’s crazy but that was a full circle moment. Im also glad that a baby wasnt thrown in at the end. This book mentions miscarriage and what happened to her caused her to probably be able to never have kids and that was addressed beautifully towards the end. This book wrapped up beautifully. I really enjoyed it.
Summer, oh my gosh she deserves everything good the world has to offer and so do her mates (especially Mason). She was the absolute sweetest yet strongest, and I admire her spirit.
I do wish she got to see her interact with Brooklyn a lot more. This was my first FF read, rh FF specifically, and I really enjoyed it. Just wish I got to see more.
I also believe that, Mason definitely should've ended up married to her since he's the only Beta. That would make a nice extended epilogue.
Aside from that, I just wish we got to figure out Ava a bit more. I know for a fact she was behind Summer's "consciousness" (that's the only way I can put it without spoiling it). It would totally make for a great spin off book!
Definitely will be back to reread this book duet at some point!
Pack Deception: Part Two is the second, finale of the Passion Pack Series by Wren White. This picks up right where book one left off with Summer over hearing Pack Whitlock talking and she panicked and ran. I'm glad she has such a good friend in Ava, who sets her straight and gets her to trust herself and her mates. I loved the love between Brooklyn, Mason, Hudson, Maverick, and Summer. Some TW to watch out for. I really enjoyed the ending when Summer went to visit someone and said those seven words and walked out. Loved it! Nala is such a good girl! I would love to see in the future how their family is doing, etc. Loved it. Hopefully there will be more in this world.
I just wanted to start off by saying that I was SO excited for this release. It was one of those books where I would check every couple of weeks to check for the release date, and read it as soon as I could.
However, I struggled to connect with Pack Deception: Part Two the same way I did with part one, and I'm not too sure why. It was a good conclusion to Summer's story, but the storyline and writing just didn't captivate me the same way that it did in book one, and I found it a bit harder to read.
Either way, I'm glad that Summer got her happy ending with Pack Whitlock.
I love these books so much! I ate them up like candy. ❤️ Book two pick up pretty much right where book one left off, and I was so excited to get right back into our amazing family of characters. All of the wonderful relationship building, communication, and on page spicy scenes were present just as much here. This author did an amazing job balancing all of these relationships, plot lines, and keeping the plot and the pace moving along in a way that both made you want to savor those romantic times, but also hurry along because the drama was on point! Oh so good. I can’t wait to read more by this author, and I am so glad that I found these jewels of books.
3,75 🌟 As with any omegaverse we get plenty of spice, in a poly kind of way, with everyone enjoying each other (almost), or at the very least enjoying group activities. The abuse she suffered at the hands of her ex pack had a satisfactory solution, but I wish there was more angst. The fact that the !aim manufacturers of the drug had no set backs not repercussions was very disappointing, so I hope we will get a Ava duology too and all is set right in that storyline.
This was a good conclusion to the duet. I enjoyed the characters and relationship building. Summer had a great development as a character. There were good side characters to potentially carry on the series with a different storyline. There were a few things that felt incomplete-mainly with her boss. Felt like something more could have happened there. I adored Wells and hope he gets his own story!
I read the first book without realizing the second one wasn't out yet and was so hooked that I was practically stalking her page for release updates. This book did not disappoint! The characters were consistent and I loved reading how they grew as a pack. Summer underwent some traumatic events and it was so swoonworthy to see the love and support she receives. I look forward to reading more work by Wren!
Pack Deception, book 2, by Wren White @authorwrenwhite. I discovered Wren during a Why Choose challenge & fell for her writing. 🥰
I probably should have reread book 1 to really enjoy this book but such is life! With that, this was such a good book! I really loved Summer & her mates along with how well they took care of her & each other. I would highly recommend reading this duet asap!
I really enjoyed the second book! The first book was good but this one I really felt the characters had more of a relationship. I’m so glad summer finally gets a loving pack! I felt like the story was a little rushed especially at the ending but I’ll definitely read more of this series! I can’t wait to see if Ava gets her own story. Makes sure to check out Wren’s other series if you haven’t yet I liked that one even more since it’s a different genre.
Ugh! This was so good! Until the end. Authors, please, for the love of all the universe, give us something after the drama. This was 2 books. And we got nothing real afterwards. I personally think Ava gave Summer some sort of antidote. Also, I feel like they would have adopted a kid or 2 later on. Like, they would meet some kid and KNOW, like with Nala. So yeah, loved both books, but now I am wholly unsatisfied because of the ending.
Book two continues where book one left off. A promise to make her scheming old pack pay. I liked the way the adopted the dog. I was left with a few unanswered questions. What did her old boss and friend give her to bring her back, and why couldn’t they just leave out that fertility bomb altogether? I hate when that’s done to a fmc I wish that warning is given because boo. Snakes still around too. So feels partially unresolved for me personally.
This book picks up right after book one. Thank goodness because that was one mean cliffhanger. We get our answers, we get our justice, we even meet some new characters. I’m hoping to meet again. I shed some tears. I hope we get Novella giving her what she wants. It was a rough in that area. But a great ending.
I love this author and this book. If you havent read the first novel in this series be sure to do that first! The characters are written so well amd really come alive. Its an enthralling story with well developed characters, relationships, and storylines. If you are looking for a must read look no further!
2.5 ⭐️ She got sparrows to cover up the bite from “Blaire”?? Who tf is Blaire
Also was her boss at the book place not acting a little sketchy after she mentioned having mates? I thought maybe he was acting weird because he liked her or something but I started to think that wasn’t the reason. Idk maybe he wasn’t actually acting weird and I was imagining things 🤷♀️
okay, i may have hated how the first one ended, but i liked this one a lot more. the communication was better and less frustrating, and it wasn’t a long drawn out fight over the initial miscommunication like i thought it was going to be.
i can’t wait for ava’s book, and i wish we could get more of wells, because he was probably my favorite character in the whole thing.
So good!! The story could have gone so many different ways and I’m so glad that it went the way it did. It’s definitely giving you the hea vibe. Especially the very end!! Kind of made me laugh and think “Gotcha”!! If you haven’t read book one please do. You will not regret reading this duo book.
DNF @ 38% the struggle was real with this omegaverse. I am usually an absolute sucker for these but I could not get into the inner pack drama. I rated book 1 as a 3 star. This one seemed written better but I still didn’t like how the pack interacted as a unit, something feels off. 🤷🏻♀️ onto better reads.
